[o8] ‸^‸ Eighth Song || Nocturne of Shadow
Characters:
AU!OoT Link ,
their Shadow, and anyone else.
Setting: After these threads, Floor 13, the Cathedral, 6-7pm. BACKDATED TO SEP. 11th.
Format: Action.
Summary: Link went in a bit early to go face their Shadow, which they'd decided would happen one-on-one, not unlike another battle. In short: Link is dying, denial city, this is ending poorly.
Warnings: Violence, blood, teenage (child?) angst, drama, lots of sadness. Other than that, I will add anything else if it comes up!
[ It was Zelda's reaction that had wounded them the most. Link was afraid. They couldn't possibly allow this to happen. Allow Zelda to be hurt by the abomination spawned from their heart.
Around 6pm, an hour before it got dark, Link ventured off to the Cathedral through the fog alone, armed as best as they could be. Link was wearing their Kokiri tunic this time, dressed in a familiar sort of green anyone who knew the Hero of Time would easily recognize. It wasn't hard to avoid people with all the fog--eventually, floor 13 was in sight and Link stepped up the stairs toward it.
It had changed completely to a place they were well-versed in: a fake version of the Temple of Time, from Link's home. The Cathedral now very closely resembled a much larger, more ornate sort of place. The benches were gone. Instead, entering this floor leads you a huge marble area where, in the back, a large glowing triangle can be seen near an open door. In front of it is a pedestal, with three oddly glowing, gently rotating stones on it, and an inscription which reads, in Hylian: "Ye who owns 3 Spiritual Stones, stand with the Ocarina of Time and play the Song of Time." The stones will not move even if someone tries to remove them.
Behind this pedestal there is a large door, and another room still. There are many symbols (six total) on a circular, raised platform where it looks like some sort of sword or key used to be placed. Ornate stained-glass windows provide light throughout the entire area. Link knows this area well, it permeates with an almost holy kind of sound. Simply walking on the marble floor, being in the Cathedral now, leaves one with the tingling feeling of... powers beyond their scope, just out of sight. Of Time all around them, of magic, in the air.
At the same time... it's desolate. Link slowly, carefully, waits and finally encounters the Shadow. It is sitting on the Pedestal of Time, where the three spiritual stones are, smiling.
For those able to watch or who arrive early as well, the encounter does not go in the real Link's favor, and the fighting takes up a good deal of time. No one can get in even when it's all going on, either. Not until the fighting is over--an invisible barrier of a water-type substance keeps anyone out, and any sound from getting inside the Temple, though plenty of it can be heard OUTSIDE.
The end result is that, sometime around 7PM (just after the battle), anyone else who arrived here or had been here waiting to get in somehow would find the entrance now open. There was blood towards the back of the fake Temple, leading up to the platform where the Master Sword, also bloody, now rests. Leaning against it for support and slowly dying is the real Link, who happens to be cut up and beat up pretty badly (arms, legs, face, all over but their chest), on top of having been stabbed in the stomach. Trying to stop the blood from a gaping sword wound isn't going too well for them, either. Nearby is their Shadow, leaning over the pedestal smirking. It's got very obvious, dangerous glowing dark energy that has long since transformed and drawn power from its original; it's a miracle Link fought it at all, really. The hair is ashen white, the skin the wrong color, the eyes turned red as opposed to yellow, and all of the things it's wearing are black or red, down to its weapons being black now as well with highlights of red. The Shadow seems to just be letting its original die a nice and slow death.
Oh, it was a trap, just as many people had guessed. But Link couldn't let anyone else deal with that, and now they were paying for it. ]
Sleep for seven years again, you worthless child. No one will miss you.
[ ooc; wow ignore my failure in the original posting of this like hours too soon idek what happened there???? Anyway, anyone is welcome, even newish people, though one linear thread would rock my socks. Oh, and I'll also be replying with
shadowedheroism for Link's Shadow. It's already boss mode but has no special stats aside from being immune to Slash/Physical damage. It's got magic, but only dark versions of what Link themself could use, mostly, though THAT is unlimited for the Shadow. It's very physically agile and can make fake clones of itself to fool people (the real one will always blink as a tell, though), if you needed info there. ]

So of course the Princess is lingering outside the Cathedral as dusk falls, waiting for the barrier she can't dispel to drop. Of course she's dressed as best she can for battle, Terminian mirror shield on her arm, a bottle containing a fairy at her waist (she only wishes she could thank the one who gave them to her), and fog piercing glasses on her face. Of course she's practically snarling at the barrier as she hears the warped and too-cruel voices of home mocking the hero she cares for so much.
Of course she's stunned silent when she hears an imitation of her own voice among them.
But of course that doesn't stop her for a single moment the second the barrier falls. She rushes in, announcing her presence with a ball of sacred fire aimed right at the Shadow's smirking face.]
I would like to argue otherwise, if you would not mind.
[She stares down the Shadow without fear in her eyes, as if daring it to come and attack her. Link's critical condition is a priority, and a gut instinct that this would happen is likely why she even thought to bring the fairy in the first place, but she needs to get the Shadow away from her first.
So come on, Shadow. Show her the anger you're so fond of bringing up.]
[1/2]
No... p-please, just let me die...
[ Link does not want to live if they really are that worthless. If they truly... will never be anything anyone would hope for. ]
[2/2]
That IS right. Your hero is fake, Princess. All this time, your fraudulent, pathetic Hero of Time had been waiting for some person to simply save them instead... to run away. You hate me, do you not? Surely... you must. After all--
[ And the real Link recoils as the Shadow just strokes their blood-stained face. ]
... I could not even be honest with you about how much I hated everything in that place. I have no free will. I am just the puppet which you and all the others pull around. Order to do this, order to do that. Seal me away when you deem me unfit and unworthy, hope to mold me into someone more 'respectable' for the ten rupee title a two rupee person holds. Hero of Time, they said--impossible, really. It is nothing... but a joke. Heroes are not like ME. All the other Links are heroes, real men. I cannot be, after all; perhaps that is why I have no one left who cares for me, no family to speak of. I do not belong in Hyrule, much less by your side... that is why we will give up this sword, and why we will leave... and when that is done, once you are dead... we will never be anyone's fake hero ever again. I will not be forgotten... given no options. Not ever again.

Hey shithead. I ain't gonna repeat myself so you better listen!
One of the people I admire the most has been fightin' the same problem! It ain't always easy, but seeing her fight her battles and overcomin' them helped me do the same. Yeah! I admit it! I like girly things! I could talk all day 'bout sewin' and cute little toys I make! It's thanks to her courage that I understood mine, along with help from my Senpai...
But you know what? It doesn't matter who you are.
You just have to believe in yourself!
no subject
He's right. It doesn't matter which gender you are. A few of the bravest people I know are girls, the person Kanji-kun's referring to especially.
[
...oh, and hi there Princess Zelda. Nice to see you again. Catch up later?He sighs, fixing his glasses before calling Alice forth. See? Girl Persona.]I don't know what it's like for you in your world, but in ours it's difficult to overcome this same problem. You aren't alone. I like to cook as a hobby and fold paper cranes, personally.
[Both rather... girly things when you think about it.]
no subject
Man, woman, adult, child, human, monster, whatever - that crap doesn't matter. Bein' a hero ain't about that stuff. Long as you stand up for what you believe in and for those that need help - that's what it's about.
An' I'll say this - I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for the efforts of some ladies in my life. And I get my ass kicked by one of 'em on a regular basis. [Momo unshoulders the blade, and points it up toward the Shadow.] She'd probably break through that stupid barrier they got here and do it again if I just sit idly by, come t' think of it. So both of you listen up - ain't nobody dyin' on my watch today.
[1/2] HAHA SORRY FOR THE LENGTH OF THIS it had to be long--
You talk the way you do because you think it makes you look more respectable, don't you? It reminds you of the Deku Tree, makes you think you're as old as you look, makes you feel like people will LISTEN, makes you sound like a man who's important, just like lowering your voice all the time does, too. But she hates you, remember? Zelda. Hates. You. And you should hate her! You represent all the wrong things she has done in her life. You represent the opposite of what Farore would be. She IS lying for you but for HOW long will she do it, anyway? Tell them all about it, you stupid little girl! You want to. You want to cry and scream and throw a tantrum because you hate everything about your life.
[ The tears fall and the real Link struggles not to break into uncontrollable sobbing. As this happens and she attempts to stand, blood continues to leak out of the injury, staining her green tunic a vibrant dark red. If she doesn't get help in a little bit, she'll probably die. However, the attempt fails and Link tumbles back to her knees, stuttering and looking smaller by the second, somehow. ]
N-no... no, they... they are... right... of course, I... I was wrong to feel any way about it...
[ The Shadow looks disgusted with her words, angry, even. Now that you've all managed to just piss it off, it makes a repulsed grimace before staring at those assembled and back to it's original... and begins shouting. ]
NO. YOU. WEREN'T!
[ And now it practically venomously spits it's next sentence toward the others gathering-- ]
AND ALL OF YOU IDIOTS! YOU UNDERSTAND NOTHING ABOUT THIS! None of you!! What would you know about how much it hurts?! Zelda? You only wanted to use me to save your stupid country! My feelings, my happiness, the fact I was never meant to do it be damned, right?! The Sages? They all died because of me in those temples! Ganondorf killed the people I care about most, and I could've stopped it, but I couldn't because I was too late and too weak! And you? You are ALL men! You are all people who are respected and cared about! You are ALLOWED to be happy, to do things others might view strangely, but no one ever let me decide! I am the tail end of the biggest cosmic joke--have you even looked at the other Heroes we have? Have you?! The little boy my age was decided to be PERFECTION by the very same Goddesses that decided I was so unfit for my role they unwillingly forced me into a suspended state for seven years! Without my asking! I hate all of them and I hate myself for it because I know I'll NEVER live up to what they want from me.
[ Finally, the real Link shakes her head. All the words are coming out at once from something with her face and she hates it. It would follow because she keeps all this to herself that her Shadow literally never shuts up when it gets started. ]
Please, stop... they care about me... I can be what they want, my happiness is inconsequential...
... You just keep doing it! You just keep telling everyone you're fine and making yourself be more and more unhappy! You suffer as their puppet hero because you think it's what people want, you justify it! It's what a hero is, it's what a hero HAS to be, right? Just like a hero has to be a strong, respectable man. ... And you're not one. You're nothing more than a little girl who got dumped into a forest when her parents died and grew upwhere everyone hated her and she was an outcast! You were a freak then and you're still one now, and you'll never change that! Everyone will leave. Everyone will DIE because you're not good enough like the other BOYS... you can't play in their game. You can't handle it! And deep down... you don't even want to try. You just want to run away and join the Gerudo, who you know will respect you... thieves and outcasts themselves, all women. At least they'd accept you, freak of nature that you are, the huge mess that you keep making. People get hurt, people die because of you. A kid, but an adult. A knight, but a woman masquerading otherwise. A hero holding the piece of Courage, but in the end, you're afraid of everything and you don't even deserve it...!!
If you won't do it... if you won't stand here and admit you feel this way, admit I'm right, me, then I'll tell them this is true, I'll do it in your place... with my SWORD!
[2/2]
[ ... Uh oh. Now angered even further, the Shadow turns completely berserk and vicious. It begins drawing power into itself... but does not transform just yet, instead, the blackness continues to gather, and it grabs it's original by the arm, yanking them up off the bloody marble dias and forcing them to their feet together. Link doesn't even protest, still bleeding and merely makes a pained noise instead.
Then, the darkness is channeled into the Shadow's hands in a ball before it begins changing form to a crystallized see-through diamond of black and red colored magic, slowly engulfing the two of them. Those who know the spell will recognize it is in the shape of Nayru's Love (in this case it would be Nayru's Hatred, now) and as this happens, Link screams and they both disappear briefly, surrounded by the dark energy and blacked out from view. There's a small delay of only about ten seconds, then, and when it dissipates the real Link is trapped in black, clear crystal not unlike something Zelda has been stuck in not all that long ago--floating high above them. When the Shadow emerges after that, it's outer appearance has changed: the body is now more obviously feminine and the hair is much, much longer, almost waist-length. Copies of it made of Shadow appear from it as well. Each one of them with eyes and an aura a different color, representative of each of the Sages and then Link herself.
But it's impossible to tell which is the real one; it could be any of them.
Green, Blue, Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Pink, and then the Shadow itself, which is emitting a sort of bright green light. ]

[Momo looks around - he was gonna comment about the Shadow being obstinate and not listening to reason, but AM SUDDENLY OUTNUMBERED, THIS IS MILDLY CONCERNING.]
Cheap bastard, using this many is just cheatin'!
no subject
He has no bullets. He has no spells. He just has a knife and a lot of paternal instinct.
So, when the Shadow goes berserk and traps Link, England doesn't bother with its neat little tricks. He just draws his knife and runs.
He intends to shove right past the Shadow and its clones, making a beeline for the real Link and the crystal she's trapped in.]
no subject
It's time to start repaying Link for all the times she's saved her.]
Go for the one glowing green!
[She orders the others quickly before dashing off behind England,attempting to clear the way with the occasional blast of magic light.]
Hold on, Link...!
no subject
England was already heading towards the real Link, so while Zelda rushed after him, Jun stayed behind in the back; he waved his hand and summoned Chronos above him, attacking the Shadow and all of its clones each with a cyclone of wind.
They could easily keep them busy while the a few of the others went to free the real Link.]
no subject
... Someone will need to get her down somehow, magic, perhaps? From the outside it's easy to see the real Link has already given this battle up in her own mind from the Shadow's verbal assault. There would be nothing else to say from her unless prompted. She's only barely hanging on at this point; her Shadow has drawn so much energy from it's original it's a wonder Link is alive or conscious in the first place. Dimly glowing on her hand can be seen a small light--the Triforce of Courage. It's probably about the only thing keeping her from dying at this point.
The Shadow, meanwhile, regroups after Jun's attack and England and Zelda getting past. The fakes are as real and able to fight as the Shadow itself, but they all go back to the original and this time it's almost like there's a shuffling of them when they reappear; the colors are the same, but the real Shadow has changed colors to match and exchanged the green one with one of the duplicates.
The duplicates are, however, weak to elemental skills; the hint would be the colors or people they represent.
Light is weak to Darkness;
Forest is weak to Fire;
Fire is weak to Water;
Water is weak to Electricity;
Shadow is weak to Light;
Spirit is weak to Wind;
Their Leader is weak to physical attacks;
The Hero is weak to nothing, however, and will remain invulnerable to assault until the OTHER clones are taken care of in the right way, and the right order. It will be the one that is immune to any damage, despite it's color. You'll have to figure out how to kill them the proper way, guys; from start to finish each one will need to be killed in the right order with the right weakness. (Here's a hint: it's in the order of Sages with the Shadow itself last.) ]
No, no, you will find it far harder than that, Princess! You need to lie still so that I can rid myself of everything that I hate most... myself, and everyone who cares about me.
[ The voice of the Shadow seems to be coming from ALL of them at once. It's an eerie effect. Oh, and... speaking of which, now that they're regrouped, the different Shadow Links are headed to attack everyone, splitting up in eight different ways:
Green using Farore's Fear, an attack where a dark mass of wind attempts to engulf him, and Purple heads for Momotaros wielding it's weapons;
Blue and Pink attempt to cut off England and Zelda by brandishing Ice arrows and Darkness-laden arrows respectively;
Red using Fire arrows and Yellow using Light arrows attempt to attack Jun, firing the magic arrows;
Orange heads for Kanji, summoning Din's Wrath, a huge sea of black fire around them;
Light Green attempts to attack Yu using four magic-created bombs that explode in different elements as they're thrown: one is ice, one is fire, one is wind, and another still reeks of darkness.
You will have your hands full for a little while, guys, unless one of you can get Link to do something or figure out how to kill this thing... ]
no subject
I will lie still when I am dead and buried! Nayru, protect us...!
[Grabbing Arthur's arm, she summons a diamond-esque blue barrier to surround them both, protecting them from the clone's attacks, if only for a brief while. Okay, think, Zelda, think. Link doesn't have much time... they need to get her down soon, but that damned Shadow is just going to keep shuffling around!
Eight clones. Seven sages and the hero. Those cruel voices that spoke one after the other... always in order...
There's nothing for it, but it's not like anyone else here is going get their significance immediately. In a tone that will surprise her later, she calls out to the others battling the Shadow.]
Light, Forest, Fire, Water, Shadow, Spirit, Leader! Those are the Sages of Hyrule! They were awakened in that order by the Hero!
[Speaking of, once she's done playing commander, the Princess turns back towards the Hero, crying out with all she has as the barrier begins to flicker and fade...]
Don't you dare give up on me yet, Link! We've been through too much for that!
[Just... hold on a little longer, please...]

Jun side-stepped around a few of the Fire Arrows, though Chronos had to block one. He wasn't fast enough to avoid all of the Light Arrows though, and immediately raised his arm up to block some of them and absorb the damage into his non-throwing arm. He winced, but the pain was negligible right now.
The Light one-- that was the first one they had to stop. He already had its focus, so that just helped him. He lowered his injured arm and ran towards the Yellow copy.]
Chronos--! [Light; he wasn't sure if the elements were typical like he knew them. So he attacked the Yellow clone with another Garudyne, and once he was close enough, threw the flower he was holding with the sharp-end pointed right at them.]

As for the real Link, the crystal holding her begins to shake slightly, lowering just a bit from where it's hovering. Cracks start to appear. Hearing Zelda's voice, she finally opens her eyes blearily, looking down--the entire thing is stained with smeared red on the inside from her own blood. ]
Z... Zelda...? Arthur...?
[ ... What... what was she--she feels foggy. It's hard to think. She's lost a lot of blood, after all. It just needs a final push, but Link herself is too weak to give it one. ]
I... I am sorry...
[ She's too tired to move. And, did she really even deserve to exist? After all, her Shadow was probably right. What could she do for anyone? She was worthless. A pitiful excuse for a hero. Maybe she should die. She's a liar and a terrible person. ]
no subject
[Momotaros finds himself at a crossroads here - the purple one has weapons, so...
He dodges the blast of shadowy wind by becoming translucent, and jumping into the purple clone - now different via upturned hair with a red streak and red eyes.]
Eight on six is kinda unfair, so let's even these odds up! [The possessed clone grins, and brandishes its sword, and swings at what was once its ally.]
