Pipit, and

whoever finds them!
Setting: Floor 33 (the lonely island one for farming!), around early noontime.
Format: Action please? (I can't guarantee I can brain prose right now--)
Summary: Nageki and Pipit are exploring the new floors, and have happened to find the island-like ones. They are relatively pleased with the not horrifyingly creepy ones and decide to try out farming! Also somehow Pipit picks up a chicken along the way.
Warnings: CAVITIES. Oh, and possible Hatoful Boyfriend BBL spoilers, those can always happen. Otherwise, TBA.

[ When the new floors had appeared, they'd been going down from the dorms to the library, but had found them instead. Deciding that they might be useful, Nageki had explored some of the floors along with Pipit, mostly because the latter refused to let him go it alone when this place was so dangerous, and also when he was rather sickly to begin with.

Along the way there had been a few near-mishaps (Nageki suddenly having the urge to fly away and forgetting he'd no longer had wings, then being forcibly carried by Pipit the rest of the way was horribly embarrassing on his part, for example), but for the most part things had luckily gone all right, and the monster encountering had been minimal since it was early noon.

Also, Pipit had somehow acquired a chicken. Which surprises no one. Nageki had found it and pointed it out, and he was feeling kind of bad for the fact it couldn't talk, so they took it with them and headed back up to the farming island area, deciding that hey, they should maybe try growing their own food, right? Surely it would be better than the cafeteria stuff.

Nageki, agreeing wholeheartedly, had decided to grab the tools and carry them over while Pipit looked at the seeds out of the shed.

... Of course, being as frail and small as he is, this doesn't really end well and Nageki kind of... gets a huge workout just trying to lift all the metal stuff, rusty or not.

He... might need help handling these, it's taking him a little bit, considering his poor build. But he's managing! Mostly. It was kind of a dumb idea to grab them all at once, but live and learn? ]

M-Mister Pipit, I think these were everything... I've only read about this before, though, I've never actually done it...

[ He's going to do his best to help even if this is exhausting, because he hates being a burden, after all.

Feel free to help them out or bother them! Or maybe you want to plant things of your own, too? ]

Don't worry about it! I used to help out with the farming on Skyloft before I could patrol on my own, so I know what we need to do!

[Elsewhere on the same floor, there's a boy in green squatting happily on the farmland as he works on covering up a Magic Bean with some dirt. ♥♥♥]

[ Aww Pipit ahdff. He's excited though... he's never seen this done really? Only read about it. ]

I can do that. There's nothing special to it, right? You just put them in the ground and water them when you're done covering them up?

[ Oh hey, it's Link! ... What is he planting? Nageki kind of wanders over, curious. ]

What seed is that?

[ Seriously, magic beans don't exist. So he thinks it's just some rare species of plant or something. ]

[Link looks up and smiles at Pipit and Nageki. For some reason, the weight he normally carries is missing.]

It's a Magic Bean! I had just one with me when I came here. All it needs is a bottle of pure water, and then it'll grow, poof, just like that!

I'll carry you if you can't walk, but other than that, alright.

[He's not. Letting you hurt yourself. >8(]

That's about it! But I have to make sure the ground is ready, first.
No weeds, no large rocks, and nice and soft! You know?

It won't take long though, I promise!

... Pure water?

[What's the difference between water and pure water? Isn't all water pure..?

Pipit puts the tools to the side then, before lifting the chicken off of his head (let go of his hat you cutie he can't weed with you there) and letting it roam around the area.]

You know how to, right?

[ Oh, Nageki's got this one, bro. ]

I think he means water that doesn't have any contaminants in it, like parasites or extra microbes. It's probably really sensitive and used to a certain type of water from a certain climate, after all.

[ ... Sometimes, he's a bit of a know-it-all, when it comes to the things he's read. ]

Since it would harm the plant, that makes sense. Um... I'm not sure about the quality of our water here, to be honest. But if you're worried about it, you could always get a can and boil it to a high heat, then when it cools off, water it with that.

[Those sure are words, Nageki.]

What I used back home was water from springs. Water from the swamp wouldn't work at all... The plant wouldn't die or get sick, it just wouldn't grow any.

I thought that maybe water from floor eleven or maybe one of the lakes or ponds would work okay. [Here, Link even digs out one of his glass bottles. It's full of water. He holds it up to Nageki so he can see it better.] Do you think it looks okay?

[... Pipit's just going to lean close to see if he can see those "microbes" that Nageki's talking about.

Bros he hadn't even heard of a fish before coming here. What is science.]

[ Sorry he is checking on the chicken before he looks back to Pipit. He's never actually gotten DIRTY in his life due to not being allowed outside much, so...! ]

Um... I think so. Don't you just pull them up? And I'm not going to.

[ Smallest of huffs. Really. He's fine. HE'S DETERMINED TO SEE THIS THROUGH...! ]

Well - some weeds are pretty determined to stay in the ground. You have to pull very hard to get'em out, sometimes at certain angles and things.
But that's the gist of it, yeah!

[Weeds are assholes, to put it simply.

He's taking off his tunic, though - tossing it to the side with his hat. No need to get it dirty, after all. :S
But yeah. Time to get to work! A little hard work is good for you, after all!]

... Mister Pipit, your home is very different than the surface, so I think your water probably is safer than some places.

[ This said, Nageki observes it carefully, thinking. He can't SEE anything floating around, but microbes and parasites and all that are very tiny... ]

... It's probably safe to water plants with, but I wouldn't drink it myself. It might make you sick.

[ He's quiet for a moment more, thinking on it now... the boy can be quite intelligent when he knows about a topic, honestly. ]

Actually, I think I saw some books on how to make homemade water filters in the library the other day... next time I'm down there, I'll take a look and see if I can't make some. That way we'll be able to be sure it's safe for both us, and the plants.

That's a great idea, Nageki!

[Oooooooooh they can make food and clean water... That'd be wonderful! They'd be able to help out so many people.]

Once you find out what we need, I'll look around and see if I can find it! I know my way around the tower really well.

[ ... Oh. Well, he's not going to do that because it'd be kind of awkward for him.

But he'll give it a shot anyway, he's never actually... you know, done this. As a human, either. Using hands was an odd enough experience next to having feathers or using your beak, after all!

He's listening intently to Pipit's every word, though, when he sees the first weed. OKAY ROUND ONE VERSUS WEED GO FIGHT!!!

Okay that wasn't so hard, even for him. This can't be that bad! ]

Pipit's actually pretty fast with this sort of thing, though; he's already starting a small pile of weeds at his side.

But Nageki's going to get an encouraging smile from Pipit! You're doing well!!]

Well, I was actually on my way down there before when we found this place... I spend a lot of time there, since my job is there, too.

[ Hmm... he kind of wants to try doing that now. The sooner the better, right? But he doesn't have the books on him, and getting down there will take some time... ]

... I wish I had an easier way of getting around this place. The elevator is several floors up, and it doesn't go directly to any of these places...

Well... I know it isn't much, but... When the Magic Bean is all grown up, it'll be a big wide plant that hovers. Usually they help you get to places you normally can't get to. But since there don't seem to be any places like that on this floor, maybe it'll just zoom around the floor, and then it'll help you cross this floor without any trouble, at least?

[ He's a lot slower because he's just learning, and he feels a little slow compared to Pipit, jeez, Mister Strong.

But he's managing to slowly go through things, moving rocks and whatnot and making a little pile.

This wasn't so bad, really. Sure, it's a little tiring on the hard ones, but it's not hard. He'll probably need to wash his hands and stuff later, but that's all right. He doesn't mind, or anything. ]

... I've never done this before. I was never actually supposed to do this sort of thing.

[ It's kind of nice, even if it is laborious. ]

[ ahsdg. WELL... ]

I-I know, but you shouldn't have to do things for me all the time.

[ ... Until he hears Link's explanation and looks incredulous. ]

Magic. You're saying it's a magic bean. And it floats.

[ The most incredulous look ever, okay. B-but back on topic. ]

I mean, I can walk, it'll just take me awhile, since some of these floors are dangerous. Especially these new ones. I don't want anyone else to get hurt because of me, either...

["Never supposed to do this sort of thing"..?]

Well; if it's because of your illness, I'll keep a close eye on you, just in case!

[A little hard work is always good, like I said! Don't worry, Nageki. You may even toughen up a bit, hanging around with Pipit!]

That sounds pretty neat! A floating plant...

[... Huh. He shakes his head though, giving Nageki a smile.]

I don't mind helping you when you need it, Nageki. But perhaps one of us can teach you how to defend yourself?

... Well, mostly because of that. I would always run very high fevers for long amounts of time after being outside, since my immune system was very weak and couldn't fight off colds or illness the way a normal bird's could.

[ Hitori worried a lot when it kept going downhill. Now it seems to be stabilized, at least, but he's still really fragile due to his immune system being weak.

Hopefully this won't bite him in the ass. In the meantime, it's nice to have something to look forward to! ]

[ For the most part, anyway. Of course he's not stopping even as he quietly says this; it's clear the way he says it is with interest, as someone who's never been allowed to do anything like this because of his condition. ]

... Well; not to dredge up a dreary topic, but you weren't exactly...

[He can't picture him being dead still, even if that's what Nageki's told him - but it's obvious that's what he's implying.]

Perhaps this body you got from the tower has a better immune system!

I... don't think I'd be very good at it.

[ Honestly, he's not putting himself down or anything, it's just... he's small and mousy and rather poorly built for any heavy lifting or anything, which might be obvious. ]

... It's not dreary. It's just a fact. I was a ghost, if you want to be technical, though it sounds ridiculous.

[ Maybe that's why he wasn't used to this. He hadn't been used to... physical anything for awhile.

Though he... has to pause to watch Pipit effortlessly (to him) pull out that huge weed good god how do you even... ]

You're... really strong.

[ No shh he's not admiring you or anything... and oh this one is also very big. He can get you, evil plant!!

Well, he's trying. It's sort of just... breaking off and the roots are stubborn. Hnnn. Being Nageki is suffering. ]

... I think this one is really far in the ground...

Ah - well, I've trained all of my life...
You have to be strong to be a knight, you know! It wouldn't do if you can't protect the people who need it.

[He never really considers his strength A Thing. It's just something that's there, you know?]

You know - if you get a spade, you can dig weeds like that out of the ground easier!

[He'd offer to help, but he knows how it feels, being able to do something on your own.]

You'd be surprised what you'd be good at, Nageki.

[Fledge could hardly lift a barrel, but he was still good with a blade!
He was just... better at being fast and running, haha... ha. ha...]

What do you think, Link? Maybe not a sword or anything for him, but what about light weapons? Like a bow?

[Link addresses Nageki's concern first, because right now, it matters the most.] Not all fighting is about brute strength. It's about defending yourself and others just as much as anything else. A lot of the time, just getting out of the way is a much better idea than blocking something with a shield. With practice, I'm sure you could be good at it.

Besides... This is just one option, if you're worried about people doing things for you. If this isn't the way you want to do something about it, it's okay. But for what it's worth, I think you can do it.

[Now for Pipit.] A bow may be light, but it still takes a lot of arm strength. I could make a slingshot, at least, and maybe experiment with boomerangs... And I have Deku Nuts, which stun enemies. That way, he can keep them far away and distract them so he can get away. [And then Link could teach him evasive maneuvers...]

[ Oh, he hadn't thought of that. Wandering over to the tool pile to go grab a spade!! ]

... What do Knights do? Do you really slay dragons?

[ WHAT it's a legit question, okay, he's read lots of books about it...

He has to pause to snicker just a bit, though. He's teasing, but-- ]

Somehow, I can't picture you rescuing princesses from tall towers...

No, see - where I come from there aren't really things like that!
What I do is patrol at night and get rid of monsters, so it's safe for others to wander around the islands if they need to.

My route is around the Knight Academy, so I guess you can say it's my job to protect the students and younger knights!
