It is admirable that he did not wish to end his life in such a way, but... given that death is not a permanent issue here, that may have helped him more than hindered him. I wouldn't know.
[It also begs the question of what would happen to her if her body was destroyed... but her priority was never on herself. Like she said, she could deal with some bad side-effects if it meant helping someone, even if that someone isn't a person she likes.]
