Building mailboxes...for love!~

Setting: Floor 15
Format: Prose, but we'll take action as well.
Summary: Having come up with a matchmaking scheme, Tohko and Rei start making mailboxes that they'll use in it. However, will they succeed?
Warnings: Rei might give players some nightmare fuel with her jaw, and there might be some injuries while making these things.

Tohko finally arrived at room fifteen, and caught her breath. Rei's ability to dislocate her jaw was creepy, but she thought she'd finally managed to get past that. Looking around the room, she saw that there were plenty of tools to help get the pair started with their mailboxes-lots of wood, nails, and a few hammers, as well as other materials and tools were scattered about the room. While Tohko wasn't used to physical labor, she promised herself that she'd do her best, and picked up a hammer, pondering how she should start.

After a while, Rei finally arrives, now wearing her costume. It consists of black cat ears, a pink, ruffled minidress, black and furred gloves and boots, a pink cat tail, and a red ribbon with a bell.

"Hee~ey! You started building."

[tohko_amano]

Tohko turned around and saw Rei, dressed in her costume, and grinned. "Hey, Rei! You look adorable! Although..I haven't started building yet. I've never made a mailbox, so I was trying to think of how to build it."

[terreifying]

"Weee~ll, it's mostly the box, right? You just need to attach it to the pole."

She picks up two pieces of wood, thinking about how they should go together.

[tohko_amano]

"That's true.." Tohko looked at the pieces of wood Rei was holding and smiled. "I guess one piece of wood will be the base, and the others will be the walls and roof. We just need to hammer and glue stuff down." She said, and handed Rei some nails and a hammer, while picking up some nails herself. While going through the nails, she found two pieces of candy, which she happily put into her bowl.

[terreifying]

"And we need a pole. Do we have a pole?"

Rei uses the hammer and the nails to nail two rectangular pieces of wood together. They're a bit crooked, but seem to be staying together well enough.

"How big do we want this box to be?"

[tohko_amano]

"Hmm..we don't have a pole. However, it should be fine if we just leave the mailboxes on a table or something. I think." Tohko smiled at Rei's work and hammered two pieces of wood together, making a front and left wall. "Let's see..they should be as big a tabletop lamp."

[terreifying]

So no 200-feet-tall boxes. She's a little disappointed.

"Then we'll need some extra boards."

She runs over to get some more pieces of wood. She's happily surprised that a candy drops out from between the boards.

"I found a candy! I found a candy!"

[tohko_amano]

"That we will. At least we won't have to make too many mailboxes." Tohko replied, putting a roof and a right wall on her mailbox. She was about to cut a hole into the top when she heard Rei cry out about her candy. Tohko turned around and saw the happy girl with the candy in her hands.

Happy for her friend, Tohko clapped. "Yay!~ Now, you need to find nineteen more if you don't want to die today."

[terreifying]

"That'll be easy."

She's excited and she has energy, so once she gets back with the boards, she'll start nailing them together very quickly.

[tohko_amano]

"Hopefully it will be. Otherwise we'll both be dead." Tohko nervously chuckled. Her luck from yesterday had run out, as she was having trouble finding candy for today. Oh well.

Tohko quickly cut a letter slot into the top of the box before thinking about the bottom. "Hey, Rei, how should we retrieve the letters from the bottom of the box?"

[terreifying]

The obvious answer, of course, is to let Rei use shape-shifting to get her hand through the crack. But she doesn't want to mess up her costume.

"Uh...a door?"

[tohko_amano]

"I was thinking that too..I just have no idea how to make one on this thing that only we can open. I'd make a lock, but I have no idea how to do that." It was times like these that Tohko cursed her poor arts and crafts skills.

[terreifying]

"I can make a lock."

Though knowing Rei, it would be an incredibly complex one that led to one booby-trap or another.

[tohko_amano]

"Oh cool! That's awesome! I guess I'll let you make the locks on these things then! Although..would it ruin the lock if I put a bottom on this?" Tohko asked, pointing to her almost-finished creation.

[terreifying]

Rei walks around the almost-finished box.

"Let's see...we nail the pole to the back, so we can have the door on the bottom?"

[tohko_amano]

"Well..I wasn't planning on having a pole, but it's easier to have the door on the bottom so that some people don't notice it." Tohko looked at Rei's half-finished box and asked, "Where are you putting your door, Rei?"

[terreifying]

"Oh, I don't really need one, but I guess I can put it on the bottom too."

[tohko_amano]

"Oh, alright then. Well, I'm not forcing you to put one on. If you don't want to put one on, you don't have to." Tohko smiled as she half-hammered a bottom to her mailbox. That was one finished. All it needed was a lock to keep it fully in place. Other than that, it was finished, and Tohko started building the next one.

One down, six more to go..

[terreifying]

Rei puts a door on the bottom of her mailbox and starts on the next one as well.

"So...how long do you think it'll take people to notice?"

[tohko_amano]

"Hmm..well, since we're putting them in highly-visited locations, it probably won't take people long. Plus, if we send out a message about it on the network, it'll really help to get the word out." Tohko almost finished another mailbox before realizing that she had forgotten to write a small introduction on the front wall of her two boxes.

Luckily, there was a pen lying in a box in the room, and with it, Tohko scribbled this on the front walls of her boxes:

'If you need help with your love life, please write to us. We will help you!'

With that finished, she finished one more mailbox before starting on another. These weren't hard to make, which surprised Tohko a little.

[terreifying]

"What about something like this?"

Rei uses a pen to scribble on her finished box. However, her text is rather different.

"Find love today! Drop us a letter!"

[tohko_amano]

"Oh! That's much better!" Tohko flashed Rei a thumbs-up, and while she couldn't undo the writing she had already done, she promised to use that line on the other mailboxes she made.

As she started on another mailbox, Tohko grew curious. "Hey, Rei, is there anyone you love?"

[terreifying]

Rei is silent for a moment, opting to just work on her mailbox. Finally, after hammering another board into place, she speaks.

"...Yeah, I love lots of people."

[tohko_amano]

"Ah..I see. Well, that's great!" Tohko said nervously as she finished off another mailbox and scribbled the line on it. Maybe she shouldn't have brought that up. That was really awkward.

[terreifying]

"Yep! I love my mom and my dad and my seven sisters and my big brother Shinji and Shinji's girlfriend 'Suka and my friend Kensuke..."

Rei starts listing her entire class and almost all members of NERV. It's as if she's not distinguishing between the various types of love.
