Characters: Satoko Houjoh & Rika Furude
Setting: Kitchen (sometime shortly after the October event)
Format: Whatever is easiest?
Summary: It's been way too long since Rika had a chance to talk to Satoko... and she is long overdue in making breakfast.
Warnings: Higurashi feels
It had been years since Rika made Satoko any sort of meal.
That was a strange detail to get hung up on, but when Rika thought of things that she missed about her best friend, eating meals together somehow topped the list. Their routine of cooking for and with each other had been one of the few comforting constants in Rika's Hinamizawa life. And now, even though she had Satoko back, she had not picked up the routine again.
She's contacted her best friend and asked her to come for lunch. It had taken Rika nearly a month to suggest this. Satoko was still a child, but Rika was now sixteen years old. She had forgotten how to behave around Satoko... and would Satoko even like for this older Rika to act like her best friend? Was it strange for Satoko to hear her friend's voice coming from this taller and older girl? Did she think of this Rika as a friend at all, or had she transformed into a stranger with a familiar name and face?
Rika was searching the kitchen for ingredients with these concerns flooding her mind. Her hand reached for and stayed on a handle, eyes out of focus and nervous expression facing a fridge door.
Get a grip! She reminded herself, breathing in deeply and reminding herself to smile. We're best friends. No matter what world, Satoko and Furude Rika will always be best friends. Satoko and I will always be best friends.

When Satoko received the message from Rika, it was like a breath of fresh air. Satoko responded before she met with her best friend at the appropriate time. What confused her the most was Rika's activity last month. She learned what happened of the event and worried. Not to mention another Rika alike was around. She didn't want to pride Rika with questions. If anything, she knew Rika would tell her, just like before.
Satoko called out Rika's name as she walked into the kitchen. She caught Rika's back as she faced the fridge door. "Rika?"
