Even little animals have more bite than him
Characters: Shotaro Sanjo and open
Setting: Floor 6
Format: whatever
Summary: Shotaro tries to find a better place to collect his thoughts. It does not go well.
Warnings: possible blood and violence
Shotaro needed a better way to relax, calm down and collect his thoughts. As it stood, he couldn't concentrate with the addition of roommates, and clearly needed to be away from everyone. He knew no one, and roaming this tower was not helping in the slightest. Caster was gone (least the one he knew of) and the thoughts he had still did not cease. He should be dead. At least he was away from the Grail War, true, but none of that mattered if it was a loss. He may not have had a reason to fight, but preventing Julius from passing was certainly one reason, even if he just needed that excuse to make himself feel better.
For now, he had stayed in one spot for the longest time, sitting down while hugging his knees. It was hard to get over all of this. Well, adjust would be a better word, and he couldn't get over it all. It felt like only minutes had passed since he saw his beautiful and powerful Servant slain, and all because of his fault as a Master. Four fights before that point, and what did he learn? Nothing, forcing himself to rely on others, and this was the end result. What else could he do but this?
A lone deer pressed its head against him. For once, Shotaro lifted his head, raising his hand to pet the deer. It was strange, but he never been near an animal such as this. It felt good...
Until fangs settled deep into that hand.
His eyes were forced open, mouth opening to give a sharp shout of pain. Immediately, his hand rested on the hilt of the rusted sword, one of the only things close to useful he got. Though heavy, he managed to bash the hilt into the head of the deer, making it stagger back. Unfortunately, his line of vision didn't catch the swarm of birds rushing onto him, many teeth biting through his uniform. Teeth? Teeth!? Birds didn't have teeth! And deer's teeth weren't practically as sharp as wolf fangs. And he saw the deer before him, butting its head against his. He useless threw his hands about, trying to focus. It was hard to even try and use one of the few Code-Cast he had!
"Cast--" He choked, the thought paralyzing him, memories being forced into his head. She was dead, and the hand that would have the one command seal was already bleeding (and absent of a command seal too). Such a distraction, he didn't noticing he was now forced onto the ground, more deer suddenly surrounding him. And they were bending down, those fanged teeth ready to munch into his body.

Fortunately, even without his servant enhanced abilities, Lancer is fast and agile. He angles himself on a path that will get him over to the boy and then them away from the animals and back to the safety of the staircase as fast as possible with as little time he can get away with near enough to the animals that his powers are canceled out.
For once, Lancer's luck holds and he and Shotaro are soon sitting on the stair case safely away from the animals who show no sign of following them there. He carefully cups the boys chin to get him to look at him and then speaks in a gentle voice.]
Are you okay? Shall I take you to the infirmary? It's not far from here and now that we are away from those animals speed will not be an issue.
no subject
Naturally, he fell a bit on the stairs, yelping in pain before grabbing the railing, stopping his fall. Least he managed that as he stared at Lancer.]
Who are you!?
[He might have seemed more panicked than he would have admitted. This tower just kept throwing more and more loops for him to go through.]
no subject
[Lancer holds out his hands in an effort to calm the boy. The last thing he wants is for him to hurt himself even worse.]
My name is Lancer. Please realize I mean you no harm. I was on a different part of the floor and heard your cries. Since I'm pretty agile and fast even without my abilities, I figured the best way to help was get you away from the animals. Somehow they nullify special abilities. I don't know how, though. I'm still new here as I'm going to guess you are as well.

[This was getting stranger. He was not used to every Servant he fought being helpful, save for Caster. Well, they couldn't all be the same, but that just brought another question: where was the master? And why save him at all?]
I mean, I appreciate the help, Lancer, but...why did you do it?
[He seemed far less fearful, and more confused about it all.]
no subject
Why shouldn't I have saved you? You needed help and I was able to provide that help. I would have done the same for anyone who needed assistance be they master or servant.
By the way, there is no war here or so I have been told. I don't know how you are involved in the wars, but you must be somehow considering you were able to recognize my name as a servant class so easily.
no subject
Well, I was technically in a war, kind of. Sorry though, I am just used to Servants acting for their master's or their own thoughts based on getting the grail.
[Which involved killing him.]

[He smiles gently in an attempt to further put the boy at ease.]
in the meantime, tell me. Is there something I can do to help you out? My master isn't here and even if he were you wouldn't have to worry about me hurting you. He has no control over me anymore and I have no wish to serve him and his dishonorable ideals.

[Though he's not a hundred percent sure he could trust the information. Caution was still there, but he didn't doubt Lancer's words as much as he wanted to. He certainly seemed noble like Gawain.
Shotaro made a quick check on himself, noticing something wrong. His sword, he could retrieve later, and it wasn't as much as a priority right now, but his jacket was a mess! Those animals tore into his outfit, though thankfully his undershirt was still intact.]
Well, a new jacket might help. [Might also help avoid being spotted by those from the world he knew of. But he notices something.] What happened with your Master to cause that?

[At the boy's next question, much of the kindness drains out of Lancer's face. He turns away slightly.]
My master was apparently offered the chance to safely leave a war that he seemed to feel was becoming unwinnable. He merely had to order his servant to commit suicide to seal the deal.
[Lancer looks back at him, anger having crept into his eyes. It's obvious, though, that none of that anger is directed at the boy sitting in front of him.]
I think that's reason enough for me to want to avoid him, don't you?
no subject
Afraid not. Everything I had save for one item is with me now. The people who run this tower weren't all that generous.
[Even if the anger had not been directed at him, it was strong. Never had he seen such genuine rage in someone. It was clear Lancer told the truth when fire was blazing in those eyes of his.]
An extremely good one. [And he thought he was the worst master. Never would he have made Caster go through such a thing, even if it meant he was spared. That's what he wanted to think, and prayed it was right.] He's not...in this tower right now, right?
Wow..computer's being glitchy tonight. Sorry for the mispost!
[He pauses a moment and looks away, shame crossing his face.]
If one of the first people I had met in this place had been him I probably would have done something I would regret forever. I am glad that didn't happen. I have fallen far enough as it is.
[Lancer takes a deep breath and pulls himself together looking back at the boy once he's sure he's pushed all of that emotion away.]
Might I ask what you were doing here all alone? It's not as dangerous as some floors, but as you saw, it's not very safe either. If there is something you're looking for I might be able to direct you to a safer place. I haven't had the chance to explore all the floors yet, but I have been told about quite a few of them by others.
it's cool
At the question of himself, he looked away. Right, he was here for a reason, a selfish one, admittedly. Was there any other kind for him now? Or were they all selfish, given his unbreakable will to live.]
I...just wanted to be alone.

If you like areas like this, I've been told that floor 25 holds a meadow that is completely safe and large enough that I'm sure you could find a corner to yourself even if there are others around. Unfortunately, the elevator doesn't stop on that floor, but it does stop on floor 21 which holds the restaurant and is safe. It would just be a short climb up from there and a safe one as long as you remain on the stairs.
[He bows slightly.]
If you are still worried about getting there safely and are willing to trust me, I could quickly take you there. It would be no problem at all.
