Cain could see this heading down the path of violence, especially when the stranger calmly informed them that he was a trained fighter. That didn't surprise him, most programs tended to be trained in fighting in order to either try and goad Cain to exercise all the lessons he had been taught, or to try and teach Abel a better handle on his temper and respect for humankind.
