Official Mihli intro post!

Characters: Mihli Aliapoh and you! (totally open)
Setting: Floor three, with oatmeal!
Format: Action!
Summary: Mihli's sitting around the library (on top of the bookshelves no less) trying to sort out what's going on.
When: Doesn't really matter!
Warnings: Cats. Also eating oatmeal in the library. She'll be cautious and a little stand-offish since she's not too sure who to trust here yet.

[Upon arriving, Mihli had wasted little to no time in getting reacquainted with her instincts, investigating the first three floors of the tower before deciding on doing much else. She hadn't really run into any others just yet, or at least anyone she'd opted to talk to -- really more than anything she needed to organize her thoughts, and apparently eat the oatmeal which she grasped rather awkwardly in one hand, holding the bowl close to her twitching nose.

Surely whomever trapped her in this odd realm wouldn't have brought her all this way just to poison her food?

...

Well, she couldn't be too cautious, even if that would just make for one hell of a boring, anticlimactic death. However, on the off chance this stuff did kill her she'd be certain to devote her entire after-life to haunting whatever sicko thought this was a great idea.

Even worse, the book she held in her other hand didn't answer any of her questions, nor did any in the massive stack sleeping next to her. History, fiction, science, all of them seemed legitimate, but not a single clue as to her biggest concerns. Furthermore, none of them seemed to originate from Vana'diel either. Curious.

Until now she'd been skulking up and down the aisles, carefully selecting books and tomes she thought might be useful in identifying just what the heck was going on. Sure, she had that note she woke up with, but being told that her world was gone in a flash - hell if she was going to believe that easily.

For a moment, the thought of asking for help flutters through her mind

But with a huff she quells it and sets the book down in her lap to take a spoon to the oatmeal, idly stirring the stuff as if doing so would eat the bland muck for her.]

[Normally, Tohko didn't scold the library patrons as she worked. She asked if they needed help, gave recommendations, and sorted the shelves, but she usually didn't have to scold people.

However, when she saw a person sitting on top of the bookshelves reading with a large stack of books and a bowl of oatmeal, she thought that there was something a bit wrong with that, even by the library's lax standards. So, Tohko paused to speak with the girl.]

Miss, while it's great to see that you love books, you probably shouldn't sit up there. If you fall, you're really going to hurt yourself and make a mess!

[Mihli leaned over from her vantage point to get a look at her visitor, spoon still hanging from her mouth as she takes in the sight of the girl with a curious expression]

"I wouldn't be up here if I thought there was any danger of me falling. Besides, those crummy seats are prretty uncomfortable."

[As if to prove a point, she pokes her tail out, casting a shadow down onto Tohko. This thing wasn't just for show afterall.]

[Huh..so this person had a cat tail. Did she have cat ears hidden away somewhere? Probably.]

Well, while you might be alright up there, a book could fall on someone's head or something. Why do you think the seats are uncomfortable?

[Tohko will try to make them comfortable, if the girl would tell her.]

[Honestly, more than anything she just wanted to be in a high place, being up in the air relaxed her, but it wasn't something she could easily explain to another. She sighs grumpily, reminding herself to watch her manners]

"The chairs are just hard. If it makes you any more comforrtable I'll bring the books down myself - they aren't helping to begin with. There's nothing here about this Tower or wherrre we are. You wouldn't happen to know, would you?"

[She hates to ask. It almost feels like defeat, but at this rate she really isn't getting much of anywhere.]

[Tohko sighed to herself before she replied, smiling.]

Well, if you wanted, I could grab you a cushion for you to sit on..and I don't mind if you sit up there as long as you make sure that you don't bring anything up there that could fall and hurt someone. However, I do know about this Tower! Let's see..

[Tohko then thought to herself as she started her usual infodump, trying not to miss anything.]

This Tower is called Animus. Five people currently run it, Dax, who's the most humane of the bunch, Jason, who loves to experiment and torture the residents, Zo, a small boy who works with the Administrators, Riki, a secretive fellow who manages the records and builds the Tower, and Ruana, a childish woman who's been here for thousands of years and has strange powers. She may have multiple personality disorder, but we're not sure about that yet.

You had better finish off that bowl of oatmeal before you eat anything else-if you don't, you'll throw up anything else you try to eat. However, you can add things to it to improve the taste, and once you finish it off, you can eat anything you want.

Monsters roam the Tower at night, and some of the higher floors have monsters that will attack if you draw too close. If you don't know how to fight, you had better ask someone to teach you. There are lots of people who would be more than happy to help.

Death here isn't permanent. If you die, you will just wake up in your bed the next day. However, I imagine that if you die too many times, you'll get punished, so please be careful.

And your universe isn't destroyed! There are several people here who wouldn't be able to exist if their universes were destroyed, so don't worry. Your universe is fine.

[Tohko then nodded to herself.]

And that's everything! Any more questions?

[That's... a lot to process all at once! Mihli's expression drastically changes, her usual confident, almost cocky demeanor blown away by a sudden silent gawking. She sits there in silence for a moment, getting her bearings together before piping back up]

"So this actually a gigantic Tower, we've been lied to, the 'owners' of this place probably can't be trusted and apparrently people die often here? Well."

[She can't help but chuckle a bit at that, a small, nearly unnoticeable glint of relief in her eyes. They were lied to. Of course they were - there's no way their worlds could be obliterated in such a short amount of time, and even if that were so, she trusts the others would be alright. It'd take more than an apocalypse to kill her friends.]

"Thanks for the concern, but I can manage on my own in a fight."

[Note her grin Tohko. She may not look it from where you're standing, but Mihli commands a ton of respect back home - her fighting skills aren't to be scoffed at and fighting monsters is a daily occurrence back in Vana'diel. Her tone emphasizes that fact, almost as if she's amused that this girl would even make the mistake of thinking she's hapless victim.

She's still wary of everything and everyone though, including this girl. How could she be certain if she were telling the truth?

All a sudden, this spot up high and away from everyone else was feeling a lot more comfortable.

One major thing still concerns her though, so she decides to ask Tohko regardless.]

"Wait - you said thousands of yearrrs? How is that possible? ... And how long have you been here if that's really the case?"

[At that, Tohko smiled. She couldn't tell whether people could manage in a fight or not based on looks alone, so it was good to hear that this girl could get around.]

Ah, alright then! It's good to hear that you can fight. I can't always tell who can and who can't, so I find it's just best to let every newcomer I meet know that.

As for how long I've been here, I've been here for about..four months. However, this Tower is much older than I am, and Ruana has been here much, much longer than anyone else.

[On the other hand, she's beginning to question just why this girl is so calm considering her circumstances. She obviously wasn't from around here if she's only been here four months, and who says that every word she speaks is truth? Their worlds could very well be in peril all along and she could've just been lied to. It doesn't hurt to hold onto that hope, but the more she mulls over this, the fishier it smells.]

"And yet you're so calm. If we're all prrrisoners here why have you become so content to accept this fact?"

[At that, Tohko sighed and scratched her head.]

No one here really is happy about the fact that we're stuck here, and we're all working to find out more answers and a way to get home. But running around like a headless chicken or Ivan the Homeless isn't going to help. It's best to stay calm if you can while you're puzzling things out.

[That may be true, but then who can you trust? Who's the deceiver and who truly wants to go back home? There were too many factors in this place. Too much she didn't truly understand.]

"Seems a little dangerous to immediately trust anyone you come across in this place. If some of the 'administrrrators' here are as old as you say, what's stopping them from deceiving us? Who can you know to trust?"

[Her tail idly sways overhead akin to a pendulum, slitted eyes appraising Tohko's as if she's searching for an answer not in her words, but directly from the source. Part of her deep down would like to believe this girl, but in this scenario, who do you trust?]

[Tohko nodded to herself, realizing what the girl was getting at.]

Well, Dax seems to be the most humane and trustworthy of the Administrators, and he even helped me out and gave my friend advice, so I think he's alright. However, he has to go along with some lies that Ruana puts forth to make sure that he doesn't die or get injured.

As for which residents you can trust..there are probably a lot who might hurt you, but the ones I know are dangerous and not trustworthy are Ganon, Sephiroth, and Wilhelm. Wilhelm and Sephiroth will act nice to you, but they're not that trustworthy. Wilhelm will use you like a chess piece, and Sephiroth doesn't really care about people. As for Ganon, he's..pretty evil. It's best to avoid him when you can.

[The most humane and trustworthy, but still a pawn if her words were to be trusted, meaning that regardless she should remain cautious around all of the administrators. If death and torture were the norm in this place, she'd find herself hard pressed to ever trust any of them, actually.

This girl though. She just won't quit, and regardless of her utterly carefree demeanor, something in her eyes puts Mihli a little more at ease, melting some of the tension in her own gaze away, though she remains at her spot above the library, picking idly at a book now.]

"Sephiroth? ... How do you spell that?"

[She'll take note of the names to avoid, but this 'Sephiroth' sounds familiar. She could've swore she's heard of it before]

"There's a few 'X's in it, right?"

[Tohko couldn't help but chuckle a little at that. How would anyone thing that Sephiroth's name had 'x''s in it?]

There's no 'x''s in Sephiroth's name. It's spelled like this: S-e-p-h-i-r-o-t-h. Are you planning on sending him a letter or something?

[What was so funny? Her tail stiffens a bit -- did she say anything weird?]

"I could've sworrrn I've seen Mercenary in Besieged with that name."

[She shrugs, her tone dismissive. Must've been a coincidence afterall, but she swears she's seen that name before... Though she doesn't mention it in thanks, she does genuinely appreciate Tohko's concern, as well as her information. Perhaps she could trust this girl? Her outward appearance doesn't change in the slightest though.]

[Tohko looked a little..puzzled at that.]

I don't know how you could have seen a name like that where you came from..but the people in this Tower all come from different universes, so it's possible that the Sephiroth you remember won't be the same compared to the one in the Tower.

"That doesn't really matter"

[She's still trying to find out what was so funny.]

"Tell me more about this oatmeal. Why do we have to eat it to keep everrrything else down? Or do you not know?"

[Part of her hates being so confused about this sort of stuff, but by her studies, asking around really IS the only way. The irksome tone in her voice hints at this irritation, but as Tohko's been helpful she'll take any little miracles she can get]

[If she asks what was funny, Tohko would happily tell her. However, that puzzled look doesn't vanish.]

I think it does. It might help you get along with some of the other residents.

[She then sighed.]

I'm sorry..I don't know exactly why they tamper with the oatmeal. I suspect they do it to let you know exactly what sort of place you're walking into, but I really don't know.

"Of courrrse you wouldn't."

[She returns said sigh with one of her own, sprawling out precariously along the edge of the bookshelf. Getting along with others was really the least of her worries right now.]

"Well, you've at least been useful in answering my questions"

[She glances away from Tohko, looking as if there's something else she wants to say, though she stuffs that idea]

"Don't worry about the books. I'll put them away afterrr I finish this slop."

[Perhaps that much would suffice as a 'Thank you' - it's the most Tohko was going to get from her for now at least. She then rolls over out of Tohko's sight as a means of ending her conversation.

'Getting along with some of the other residents'

Pfh. Had this girl even been listening to what she was trying to say this entire time?]

[A....catperson. Cain tried to pretend that he wasn't looking over his book but...

...bleh. Catpeople were on the list of acceptable abhumans, as set by the Holy Inquisition and taught to people like himself when he attended classes at the Schola.

Cain had been over quite a bit of the galaxy and even saw Ogryns and Ratlings in his day. But never a catperson.

Giving up on pretending, he slammed his book shut and opened his mouth.]

What planet are you from?

[Tohko sighed as this girl spoke, and was about to reply when she suddenly rolled away. a little. Even if she couldn't see the girl, she felt like she had to respond.]

Erm..we'll probably find out about the oatmeal soon though. And I'm glad I was able to help you out! However, if you want some help eating the oatmeal, I would be more than happy to do so.

[Some of the bookshelves are particularly high, and rather than find a ladder, it's easier for Zett to change into his more fly-like form and hover there, loading books into his second set of arms with his third. He waves at Mihli one of his most human arms once he spots her.]

Hey, new girl. These fall randomly sometimes. You might want to sit somewhere else.

[This gained Tohko no response, in fact, it seemed as if Mihli had vanished as quickly as she had appeared. Should Tohko decide to pull out a ladder to check the top of the bookshelves she'd find them completely devoid of any sign of the catgirl - in the confusion Mihli found the time to sneak the books back to their proper homes in the library and was considerate enough to clean up any mess she had left.

Silly girl doesn't know how to say goodbye.]

[When Tohko got no response, she quickly walked around the corner and dragged one of the ladders in the library over to the spot before climbing up it.

Sadly, there was no sign that the catgirl was ever there. While it was a bit unpolite to leave like that, at least she was a tidy patron..and she hadn't been rude.

So, with a small smile, Tohko climbed down and kept working in the library.]

[Cain's persistent gaze coaxed Mihli into turning her back towards him, her tail hanging off the side of the bookshelf as she digs through another book from her stack. She hadn't expected him to actually speak to her, which was unfortunate. Alternate world nonsense or not, those clothes of Cain's reminded her of the Mercenaries back home.

She couldn't stand mercenaries.]

"Vana'diel. You done starrring at my tail?"

[She responds with an irked tone, her back still facing him.]

[Just... staring... at...

NAOTO STOP YOU'RE BEING RUDE, GOSH. She looks away, selecting a book from the shelf next to the one Mihli's decided to sit on.]

It's best to get it over with now. Pinch your nose and eat it as fast as you can.
