Characters: Suzaku and Lancer (Diarmuid)

Summary: After February and all it entailed two angsty knights meet again
Warnings: Angst, talk of event stuff, probably death seeking and self destruction talk knowing these two

Suzaku had had a few sleepless nights. Between dealing with everything that had happened, angry roommates and an insane emperor he was exhausted but sleep seemed like a hundred miles away and it was always easier to go out, cutting down monsters until he felt like he was doing some good, rather than lying awake and letting the past, and the present, haunt him.

He had been training hard, in between working and keeping an eye on those he had promised to watch out for. And so despite his worries that something odd was happening in the tower, floors cut off... perhaps another game... He was in the gymnasium going through forms, losing himself in the rhythm, trying to forget everything.

It is an amusing twist of sorts Diarmuid can't help but think when he spots Suzaku training in the gym. When they had first met, it had been Diarmuid practicing and Suzaku watching. Now it is the other way around.

Diarmuid had originally come to the gym to do some practicing of his own. Usually he would just go fight monsters, but today he really wants to practice in a safe place where he can zone out and try to process all that is going on. However, with Suzaku here, he changes his plans.

He might not be able to zone out during a spar, but he just can't turn down a chance to fight someone as talented as Suzaku again.

Diarmuid crosses over to where the other man is practicing and calls out to him, "Hey, want to try fighting something a little more dangerous than the thin air?"

Suzaku turned at the voice and nodded at Diarmuid... he realised with a jolt that with everything that had happened he had never thanked him for his gift, the spear shard that Minato had tried to take from him. He still kept it in the pocket of his flight suit, though it had defied his imagination to how the wounds of this place could be healed.

He nodded, "I'd be honoured to." He hadn't actually thought Diarmuid would want to spar with him again after last time.

Diarmuid summons his spear, resting it across his shoulders. However, he doesn't fall into a fighting position quite yet. Now that he's a little closer to Suzaku, he can see that the boy seems unsure about something. Granted, with all that has just happened, that wouldn't be too surprising, but at the same time, Suzaku is usually more careful about hiding his emotions. Something must really be bothering him.

"You seem upset, What's wrong?"

Yes well, February was a little bit too much even for Suzaku and someone had gotten under his skin and reminded him he had emotions.

"I'm fine don't worry. How have you been?"

Diarmuid laughs, the sound very strained. Instead of giving a real answer, he shifts his spear into his right hand and spins it, "Honestly? Ask me again after we are done sparring. You will probably like the answer better."

He isn't going to lie. There have been a great many moments lately where his mind has felt more like a collection of jagged shards of glass than a mind. Diarmuid's even been terrified a few times when he has realized the pain he's been feeling might actually psychological like the pain he'd felt during January's experiment.

Might he start forgetting things soon too?

He forces a smile to his face, "And don't think I'm letting you get away with that answer. You are far too much like me for me to believe you are okay when your eyes say something completely different."

Suzaku frowned but nodded, on both counts. A spar would do them both well it seemed. Something to calm unwanted thoughts and get their heads in order, even if Diarmuid was going to make him talk afterwards. Suzaku wouldn't let him get away without talking himself, he kept saying Suzaku was like him, which meant that he needed help too.

He slipped into a fighting stance and nodded.

Diarmuid responds to the nod with a small grin and then back flips away from Suzaku to open up some distance between them. Honestly, he's probably looking forward to this a bit more than he should. Since he knows the man's geis will protect him from death, Diarmuid can use a lot more of his full ability than he normally would.

He shifts himself into a ready position. spear held at his side, point aimed down slightly and waits to see if Suzaku will begin the fight like he did last time--by searching out his weaknesses--or if he will just dive in and attack.

And since Diarmuid has already discovered his Geass, and the ensuing awkward conversation has happened, and Diarmuid had understood, and still wanted to fight. Well it meant Suzaku didn't need to hold back.

This time he attacked, darting forward in a kick, aiming at the side of the spear. If he could disarm Diarmuid it would give him an advantage.

As a spear wielder, Diarmuid is used to people trying to disarm him right away. The spear gives him range after all and that is a dangerous thing to let your opponent have unless you are a ranged fighter yourself. However, instead of dealing with the kick as he usually would by dodging, Diarmuid unsummons his spear giving up range in favor of hand-to-hand combat.

As soon as his hands are free, Diarmuid grabs for Suzaku's leg hoping to catch a hold of it and spin the man around so that he can grab him from behind and get an arm around his throat.

Well that took him by surprise, but he is nothing if he can't adapt quickly, his leg was grabbed but as he was span he brought his fist around, using the momentum for a punch.

Diarmuid grins as he lets go of Suzaku's leg and blocks the punch with the side of his arm. That is one of the things he likes so much about sparring with the other man. He might not be a servant, but he sure is fast and can react to things in the blink of an eye.

As Suzaku's fist connects with his arm, Diarmuid reaches out with his other hand in an attempt to grab Suzaku's arm and twist it behind him. The grab is actually a distraction, though, because as soon as Suzaku attempts to avoid the grab, Diarmuid is planning on dropping down to try and sweep the man's legs out from under him.

Suzaku put his foot down as he was blocked and moved out o the way of the grab, he felt Diarmuid's foot connect with his legs and fell backwards, using the momentum to roll, gaining some distance and waiting ready in a defensive stance.

Diarmuid is pleased when he feels his foot connect with Suzaku's legs, but when he notices that the man is going into a roll to gain some distance, he falls back himself knowing he won't be able to knock him down and pin him like he had hoped.

Well, if he used his full speed he probably could, but he really doesn't want to end the fight that quickly.

Instead of attacking, though, Diarmuid again waits. There are times in fights for both pressing the attack and waiting and this is a time for waiting.

Suzaku watched him, waiting a moment to see if he would attack, but when he didn't he came forward again, spinning to kick upwards, attempting to knock him off balance.

Diarmuid easily dodges the kick by dropping down under Suzaku's foot into a slide meant to take the leg Suzaku's not kicking with out from under him. If he's successful, he's going to try and grab Suzaku and pull him onto his back and pin him with an arm across his throat. It would be a definite end to the spar, but not one that would trigger Suzaku's geis and let him use it's power to escape.

Suzaku hopped, trying to avoid the slide but found himself grabbed anyways, his reflexes were good but he had never fought someone as fast as Diarmuid before. He landed but didn't give up, kicking and trying to jab Diarmuid's arms in a way to make him let go of his throat.

Diarmuid applies a bit more pressure to Suzaku's throat, careful not to hurt him. He ignores the man's arms and legs for the most part because of how much stronger he is as a servant. Most of the blows, since they aren't being made from ideal positions, just don't really feel like much.

"I think that's about it for this round. Give. If I wished, I could call my spear to hand now and hold it to your throat, but I would rather not risk accidental injury of any kind."

Suzaku nodded as best he could round the grip on his throat, not wanting the pressure to increase any more incase it activated his Geass.

"I give."

As soon as Suzaku gives, Diarmuid releases his hold on the man and sits back off of him. He's smiling, though.

"Wonderful job. Sorry for the little trick there, but one of the things I really admire about your skill is how fast you can adapt to a changing situation. It's really impressive considering that I move faster than a normal opponent would."

Suzaku sat up, resisting the urge to touch his throat, he nodded, "You are very fast. I have always had fast reflexes... even before... But I can barely keep up with you."

Diarmuid can't help but laugh, "You realize that wasn't really my full speed, right? Well, you probably remember how fast I was moving back...then. Servants, especially Lancers, are much faster than humans. That you can keep up at all is quite honestly amazing."

Suzaku nodded, remembering. He had been moving so fast then that Suzaku could barely follow him with his eyes.

He was curious though, and though he usually didn't like the pry into other people's lives Diarmuid knew so much about him that he didn't feel so uncomfortable about asking. "Sorry, you mention servants a lot but I am not sure what you mean by it."

Diarmuid shakes his head, resting his arms on his knees, "I never bothered to explain it to you, did I? On my world if a person did enough during their lives to be considered a hero, there was a magical...item, for lack of a better word, that recorded their souls so that if they were ever needed again, they could be called back to earth. One of those things deemed worthy of having those souls returned to earth was a series of wars called Holy Grail Wars. Indeed, the souls returned to earth for those wars were actually given different names." He gestures to himself, "We are called servants and the magi who use their magic to call us down are called masters. Long story short, we are magical copies of the souls of people who were already great enough to be called heroes made even stronger by the magic used to summon us.

"Like I said, it is amazing you can keep up with me at all especially since I was called into a class that focuses on increasing my speed and agility. Of course, you still haven't seen me at my fastest. During the experiment and our spars I was being serious, but by no means was I going all out."

Suzaku tucked his legs under himself as he listened to Diarmuid speak. Souls... souls again, he remembered the machine down or up or somewhere in this tower. And they brought souls back from deaths, Suzaku knew that heroes could be made by words, often behind legends there were just... people. Bringing them back to fight a war of magic seemed unnecessarily cruel.

Diarmuid tilts his head as he watches Suzaku. The man seems to be thinking pretty hard about something.

"What is it? Did I say something that confused or bothered you?"
