Instead, because he is so close to the boy, he focuses on taking advantage of that. His spear vanishes from his hands replaced only moments later with the swords he is carrying at his waist. He then strikes out with them--a quick feign with one hand and a harder blow with the other meant to, hopefully, disarm the boy.
The whole time, he is very careful not to let himself stay between Yukiko and Ryoji for long. That fire spell had been very impressive. He wants her to feel as comfortable as possible using them.]
