[o3] ♪ Sounds of madness
Characters: SUICIDE BOY
fractus_animus and
towerofanimus.
Setting: Room 2-14.
Format: Action brackets works best!
Summary: Minato's Paranoia has gotten far worse. To the extent that he's stopped taking his Persona Suppressors... and he really isn't thinking straight.
Warnings:Angst TL;DR Possible violence (from a nervous wreck of a teen), possible cursing, possible allusions to suicide/shooting yourself in the head, possible death (on Minato's end). All possibilities, mind you, that might occur later.
[ After all this time... truthfully? He was breaking down. At first, he'd resisted it fine, using logic. After all, a leader had to be calm and level-headed at all times. But slowly, the nagging feeling that everyone was out to get him, that everything could be a possible trap, consumed him. He stopped talking to people in the Tower. He stopped venturing out of his room.
For the last three or so days, in fact, he had hardly taken care of himself. He had stopped taking his medication that controlled his Persona for quite some time. After all, it was FAR too suspicious that they just happened to have Suppressors.
And what of everyone in the Tower? Was Chidori really not a phantom? Were his roommates not out to get him? How could he be sure that his friends hadn't been taken somewhere? That this wasn't all some awful plot that the Kirijo Corporation was behind?
... That was it. It was painfully obvious to him now somehow, that the same people who had ruined his life would attempt to do so again. As his nerves grew worse, he sat quietly on the edge of his bed, hearing chains and voices. He was hearing Thanatos in his subconscious, reacting to his lack of control. His Persona's whispers became louder.
Louder and louder and louder and LOUDER SCREAMING--until Minato's legs moved themselves and he slid down onto the floor against the wall slowly, clutching his pounding head and breathing like he'd just run a marathon. Clenching his pistol in his other hand and trying to keep a grip of his Evoker against his aching head, he could have sworn there were signs of danger all around him. No, he didn't fear death but it wasn't time, and he had to get back. ... But he couldn't take that medication, what if he ended up like that one group of people? And then he was speaking to no one in particular, in between gasping breaths. ]
... I'm not attached... I'm not afraid...
[ He could die. It was fine. It was FINE it was fine it was fine it was fine he was fine it was okay--
And then there was a loud BANG as he fired towards the wall, towards a Persona that had manifested like a phantom (maybe, stranger, or roommate, you saw it while walking past?), echoing down the hall, and he gritted his teeth and returned to silence, aside from his heavy breathing.
Should you wander toward Room 1-14, you'd find the very, very ill-looking blue-haired teen slumped against the wall, weapons in hand, staring upward, looking rather pale and clammy. Perhaps you, too, might just hear the sound of chains... or maybe the sound of gunfire drew you here? ]

She wasn't even coming because she was worried after not having seen him for days on end- Minato was more solitary sometimes than any of them, she knew that. She didn't mind it at all, save for when it made her worry for his health- but thankfully those times were few and far between. In fact, at first, she wasn't entirely sure what had jolted her out of her reading, heart beginning to beat faster, picking up speed until she was worried Medea might be resisting the suppressants, asserting her will on and against Chidori's life for the inevitable and innumerable 'next time'. She heard Medea in the back of her mind, then- not screaming for once but whispering, sharp and frantic- and she could hardly hear--
-but she could certainly feel, and that presence was one that she was familiar with and knew could only spell trouble.
She'd abandoned her reading then, making her way to the stairs and toward the dormitory level in sure, measured strides. She wasn't rushing- it just wasn't a thing she really did, not unless the situation was dire- but her steps were quicker, her stride longer than usual, and Medea's whispers fluctuated in her mind, muted mostly by the suppressants but also a little cowed by the increasingly palpable presence (to them, at least) of Death. She made it to the level where Minato resided in what still felt like too long a time, breathing deeply to try and calm herself- if something was happening, she would need her wits about her to help with the situation.
The evoker sounded then, shattering the silence just as easily as a real weapon and Chidori ran and didn't stop until she reached his door, throwing it open without heed to any other possible residents.]
Minato-!
no subject
Was it really her though, how could he be sure?
... His momentary shock subsides into silent guilt. He doesn't look at her, because he can't bring himself to. Why? Because part of him felt utterly ashamed to distrust one of the closest people to him.
Of course, this was the part of his mind not currently overwhelmed with paranoia and pain, the saner part of him. Though he'd always tried to hide it, it would be Chidori above anyone who would know him best.
Being the leader, he had to be a source of strength. He'd sooner push himself until he died than admit he was in pain or concerned about something to his team. It wasn't that he didn't trust them, but that he always worried for them and didn't want them to worry about him when they had plenty of problems already.
And this problem was his. But his other hand, the one not gripping his head and his Evoker, clenches a little tighter to his pistol, because he isn't sure.
... He has to compose himself, steady his breathing, if he gets worse, he knows for sure his Persona will kill him. ]
... I'm fine.
[ He wasn't afraid.
Of course... then there was the side of him who thought that if he ever admitted he was anything besides unemotional and composed... that he'd be vulnerable and week and he couldn't let anyone in this place see him as that. No, he could not. ]
/sends a suicidel guy to deal with a suicidel guy. Can only go well right?
However the bang was not like the other sounds, it was real and it was unmistakanly the sound of gunfire. Ignoring the whispers and the screams Suzaku ran towards the sound. He saw the boy, who did not look well and his eyes took in the gun.
Slowly as to not startle him he moved fowards.] Is everything alright? [It obviously wasn't, but Suzaku didn't want to panic him into doing anything rash. Visions crowded in around him and he tried to push them away, tried to concentrate on the very real boy in front of him who needed help]
no subject
Don't lie to me. I already know.]
I could feel it. All the way in the library, I could feel it.
Minato.
[She does take a step forward now, slowly, carefully; gauging his reaction with each slow movement. Her progress is steady, and she stops just short of him before bending down, arms folded lightly across her knees once she's finished tucking her skirts around her legs as if she's in no hurry. She holds her hand out to him then, fingers curled slightly, and her eyes flicker near-imperceptibly toward the evoker in his hand.]
You are not.
[Measured and blunt, her words nothing but the truth- he wasn't alright, none of them really were, in their little 'family'.]
But that's alright. I'm here.
[Truer still, this statement, because she honestly believed there was nothing they could not weather so long as they were together.]
no subject
But eventually, he looks up at Chidori, a grim look on his face. ]
...
[ But he says nothing, if only because this is Minato, and above all, he has and will always prefer clamming up to revealing things.
The silence probably stretches for minutes, but it feels like hours to him, before he does actually say something. ]
Are you?
[ ... How can he be sure? Hadn't he been told everyone was gone? He had been so RELIEVED, but now he's wondering if assuming it was her was a stupid mistake. ]
Oh it will be nothing but flowers and sunshine, duh
Instead, he just gives Suzaku a blank look, before chuckling darkly. He can see the very nervous actions over there... in fact, it reminded him of himself. And somewhere his Persona wouldn't shut up, but he ignored it. ]
... Worry about yourself.
[ Honestly, what did it matter if he died anyway? If he'd just come back...? Or maybe he wouldn't. He was beginning to realize... he didn't care. Facing the fact that maybe everything is wrong and maybe his world is gone, why would he care? ]
Of course of course
I do, and about everyone else, the tower is a dangerous place. [He crouches down in front of him.] We all have to be careful.
no subject
Because if it is there? He's either completely aware and no longer cares, or used to it. At this point, however, he cocks his head, Evoker (which is nearly indistinguishable from a pistol) held loosely in hand before raising it to his temple, a half-grin on his face, and pointing the pistol in his other hand at Suzaku.
Sick, perhaps accepting of the inevitable, that this was how it had to be--then he'd just... ]
Ha ha... danger's relative.
[ Click. The pistol is cocked and ready to fire. ]
Doesn't matter. Back off. I don't want to kill you in the off-chance you might actually not be working with them.
no subject
I am not working for them, and I will not hurt you. [But he will not let him hurt himself either. His eyes are starting to tinge red, but as it is just a threat and no actual attempt on his life yet the Geass does not kick in. Not more than a screaming urge to run, which he ignores. Instead he moves towards Minato, hoping he is fast enough to knock the gun that he is holding up to his own head away.]
no subject
The question startles her, and for moment she's not sure how to reply- but then she blinks and shakes her head at him, lips pursing just the slightest bit in worry as she leans forward, settling her hand on his shoulder. She's not sure just what's wrong with him- though she has a sneaking suspicious that something is just Not Right- but she intends to help however she can.]
I am. I always am, aren't I?
[Eve if it had taken her a while to get there, she liked to think she was always with him in one way or another.]
What is wrong, Minato?
[She can't help you if she doesn't know what the problem is- but asking directly might not work, considering who she's dealing with. But she knows how to work her way around his walls now- it's only a matter of time.]
no subject
And right now... that's frightening to him. Didn't he usually have that... that side of him under control? It was saved for the clientèle's targets, not innocent people--
He winces, at nothing. Or maybe something; a very obvious something, his Persona is not happy, no at all, he could at least kill the people near him. ... No, no, he wouldn't, he can't, it's wrong to take a life unjustly, isn't it?
Finally he settles on trying to get AWAY from her, shakily slipping and tripping all over himself as he scoots backwards as far away as he can, pointing his gun at her. ]
... G-get away from me.
[ His words come out shakier and more worried than he'd have liked. ]
no subject
Way to disprove yourself to the paranoid kid, Suzaku. He's... definitely not going to believe you aren't after him now.
If Thanatos wanted him to kill, if everyone was working for THEM, then he had no reason to hold back. Instead of blood coming from the other side of his temple, there are blue crystals and the sound of shattering glass as the fragments of his soul rise and give way to the huge Persona you saw not moments ago.
It is not a phantom, Suzaku. It is real. Very, very real. Thanatos looms above them, making heavy breathing noises as its coffins and chains rattle. Minato, more than a little unhappy, slowly stands, his voice quiet, but oddly monotone. ]
... So, how would you like to die? Cut in half? Frozen to death...? Or maybe we'll just drag you down to hell.
no subject
He's been seeing monsters and visions all week, this was not real. Now the boy was standing, was he dead? Was any of this even real because that's not what happened when people shot themselves in the head. No. He was alive, and speaking. Suzaku's eyes flashed red more urgently but he fought it, he had to save this man.]
Come on lets get out of here. [Because that latest halucination wasn't going away, he went to grab the boys arm, they had to run...]
no subject
[Her answer is quiet, resolved- she will not be moved, no matter how he reacts. He is her friend, the closest thing she has to family... there is nothing she will not do to make sure he is alright.
Inside her, however, Medea is shrieking, snarling, insisting that she go- get away, get safe. Chidori closes her eyes and wills her down- Minato is important to her, and Medea's warnings are ironic, considering how often she tries to kill her wielder. She shakes her head and moves forward to follow his movements, shaky and a little awkward because of her dress. Her hand reaches out again, toward his face this time, her expression as soft as she'll ever allow herself to let it be.]
Let me help you.
/late to this party
Rolling down the hallway, near Room 1-14 he sees the boy. There's something familiar about him but he can't place it right off. For now he'll get closer, worried and tries to gently probe into his mind to see if he can help any of his mental anguish.]
Before you do anything rash, please, let me help you.
[Charles will try to instill a calm about Minato, to stop any desire to harm himself or anyone around him. It's a bit difficult to really get through to him, there is another presence that he can't quite pinpoint, but it is there. With Minato.]
you are late. ... but fashionably
His Personas are whispering to him rapidly now. Samael tells him danger, someone who poses a threat, they're trying to get into his mind and Thanatos won't stop screaming and it hurts his head but the sounds are different...
and he'll fight it for as long as he can, but it isn't easy. Seeing as he himself has never cared about living or dying as much as he should, this won't be an easy feat. ... Especially with Death attempting to block you. Though it's not impossible, of course, it might just take more concentration.
Though you may not want to go in much deeper, Charles; there is a darkness in this boy's mind like an evil creature sealed inside a jar. One that is far older than it's prison, and it will do anything to get out.
The pain intensifies, because of Charles' interference and he bites hard on his lip, to stop from screaming or showing weakness. ]
I... [ Pain, his head, his lungs and Thanatos is getting angry and every minute it gets harder to speak, harder to breathe ]
I don't care. It isn't... get out!
[ Pain, pain, pain, PAIN ]
Get out... get out of my head... I'll... kill you.
I even dressed up
I'm sorry, I was just-- I want to help you, let me help you, Minato.
[Even if he hadn't remembered his name, it was easy enough to get the boy's name from his mind and he hopes using it will help him focus. Help him get some control over the situation.]
What's hurting you like this, what's causing all your pain?
[Because he could still feel it himself, a light nausea that buzzed around him, hardly anything compared to what it felt like being in the boy's head.]
no subject
But he can't; not with this paranoia, the overwhelming sense that everyone is here, possibly to take him back to wherever, or to experiment on HIM next--how could he know?
Every part of his body is screaming to get away from her right now, to fight. It's hard not to hurt her at this point, and he attempts to place distance between himself and her again, unsettled. Paranoid.
His breathing is heavy, but he doesn't answer her. Why wouldn't she just leave? ]
oooh Professor ooh so suave
... But at least he isn't as panicked as he was, even with the Tower still pushing on him and dictating his thought process.
He, on the whole, was unaware of just what WAS within him; he only knew it was a Persona, not a fragment of something worse. Even so, he can hear his Personas thrumming away, the sound angrier by the minute. The longer they aren't placated. ]
... Why should I tell you?
OH HEY CHARLES CAN HOP IN AFTER THIS o/
[ Minato isn't about to let himself be taken. With some effort, he breaks free, going for his Evoker, which is a few steps away on the floor.
The fact, however, that you could touch him should be real enough for you, Suzaku. He draws his hand up quietly, towards Thanatos, which has its huge gloved hand near his neck.
The other hand raises its sword, and everything starts to get colder, very quickly. The room darkens as a sort of inky black haze appears along with an odd, glowing purple pentagram on the floor under Suzaku. ]
Persona.
[ You may want to take note of the fact that all your energy is probably leaving you, Suzaku; instant death spells, especially ones of Darkness, tend to do that. ]
no subject
He kicked at Minato again, a way to survive, if he took out Mianto then the monster might go away. He aimed a kick and a couple of punches, but was getting weaker with every step.]
no subject
No.
The kicks hurt, but he manages to regain his Evoker. That done, he knows it will only be a matter of time. Thanatos is unwieldly with him at the moment, but he isn't bothered. ]
Thanatos!
[ He summons the Persona again, this time, sending a new spell--ice, hoping to literally freeze Suzaku in his tracks while the Mudo spell slowly kills him. It's difficult, admittedly, fighting people was different from fighting Shadows. Though a part of him might have even reveled in giving into the desire to watch the other slowly die. ]
no subject
He never quite got there when he was frozen in place. His eyes flashing red, his body physicaly trembling at the attempt to move, to stop this. His energy was leaving him slowly there was nothing he could do and yet the Geass wouldn't let him stop, wouldn't let him give up and die.]
hope it's still okay to jump in here! If not, delete it <3
Minato that's enough!
[He'll call out to him, fingers pressed to the side of his temple, focusing his powers sharply as he tried to bury into his mind, to stop what was going on. He feels the thing inside the boy, whispered awareness, Thanatos. Was that was this thing was? He'll try to give it mental touch, to figure out what it is.
All the while he's also trying to force Minato to stop whatever is going on.]
Stop this now. No one has to die. No one should die. Minato I need you to listen to me, stop this. Stop killing that boy, right now.
[Orders, demands, spoke into Minato's mind, suggestions given to said mind as well. He's not sure he can out right force him to stop, not with this Thanatos in his mind. It was a powerful force, it hurt to even enter Minato's mind with that thing in a rage as it was.]
NOPE this is perfect <333
Particularly Thanatos. You will find, Charles, that this boy reeks of death. However, that is enough to make him lower his Evoker and the spells stop not a moment too soon. His focus shifts and he slowly turns his head, breathing still heavy, bleeding in a few places, bruised and hurt, but he doesn't honestly care-- ]
... Typical. You don't understand death at all. I'm not letting them take me without a fight. I won't. I can't.
Sob you might need to convince Suzaku hes no longer in danger ;;
Though he was still weak from the aftermatth of the spell he leapt at Minato planning to kick him before the monster hurt him again, as weak as he was it probably wouldn't do much even if it hit.]
Charles will need some good asprin after this XD
Wait! No!
[There was something strange about the other boy too, but what he didn't know. Another strong force to be sure.]
Both of you, this is insane, we should not be fighting one another! We should be working together. We're all in this together after all, what will we accomplish if we destroy those that could help us?
[And he tries to focus on Minato again, in his mind.]
There is many ways to understand death, we all do differently depending on how life has been dealt to us. Just because my understanding is not yours does not lessen it.] [Not let them take him? Charles looked confused.]
Then why are you fighting this boy? He is the same as you or I, we are all stuck in this tower together, Minato. Don't fight us, help us fight to find a way out of here.
... Probably yes.
As Suzaku attacks him, he doesn't fight back. At least, not this time. Charles had a point. Perhaps... perhaps he should listen?
Though the part of his mind being infected by the Tower continues to fuel his paranoia, he stays still. ]
Please. If you think I'm going to buy your drivel, you can save it.
[ He just smiles at Suzaku, amused, because he finds quite simply that he just doesn't care anymore. If he didn't kill him, Thanatos would, after all. Why should he? He stares at the other boy, not making a move. ]
... Hey. Are you going to kill me? You'd better make it a little quicker than that, there's a line.
no subject
What... [He looks round and sees Charles, he wasn't there before... was he? Suzaku reaches out to lean against the wall as he realises that he can't remember what happened, which means his Geass kicked in, which means...] Did I hurt you? [He hadn't wanted to, he'd approached the boy to stop him hurting himself...]
no subject
[Charles will be quick to state, and rolls in closer, but still cautious.]
What do you mean there is a line? [And again he can't dodge the heavy feeling of death in Minato's mind, of Thanatos.]
Do you mean this... presence I can feel in your mind?
no subject
Why do you care?
[ He turns to Suzaku and speaks, now. ] ... Bite me.
[ He's so eloquent when his Persona is choking him, you two. Sorry. You may even catch a flicker of its large gloved hand around his throat. ]
no subject
I think there's a creature... Is it hurting you? [The first part was to Charles, the second to Minato himself.]
no subject
He speaks, but more to that presence of death itself in Minato's mind. To Thanatos.]
ENOUGH.
[Because picking a fight against something you don't fully understand is a great idea.]
no subject
This is really just giving him an awful migraine, you guys. Thanatos, on the other hand, is not even remotely pleased, the energy unleashed leaves the walls around them slowly freezing over, quite literally. The presence fades, it seems, but not before Minato is left breathing rather heavily, even though he tries to hide it. ]
... Stop interfering with what you don't understand.
[ He says it simply, matter-of-factly, as though it is stone cold fact. His expression is apathetic at best, at this point, even though it's his life that's at risk. It truly is as though he does not care if he dies. ]
It doesn't matter what happens.
no subject
[Suzaku leapt forward to fight again, this time he didn't aim at Minato, but to the side. Probably the wrong side, there were monsters all around him, he had no idea which one was the one hurting him.]
no subject
What was he up against here?]
Then explain it to me. Help me help you. [Charles will ask, almost demand, of Minato, sounding a bit worn out now.]
no subject
You're one of those goody two-shoes, aren't you? The kind who thinks he can just save the world all by himself, that no sacrifices ever need to be made. You look like it. ... I hate people like you.
[ His irritation is evident here. As for Charles, well... he's still extremely paranoid, but it's obvious he wants to help. Dilemma. What to do, what to do... ]
You're not one of us, you wouldn't understand. We can't be helped. It doesn't work that way. ... Why do you even care? It doesn't matter if we die.
no subject
However he had never been in doubt about sacrifices. Or consequences.] You only can't be helped [He goes back to fighting monsters that aren't even there] Because you don't want to let anybody help you.
apologies, LJ never sent me a notif :|
[He wished he understood what was fully going on, so he could be better help. But it seemed talking was finally starting to get through to Minato. To some degree.]
And he's right, if you let us help you you might find that things are not what you thought.
THAT'S FINE o/
Damn. Withdrawal is such a bitch. ]
In order for life to be important, that requires being alive. My time... no, all of our time was taken from us. We stole some back, maybe, but in the process the result's damn near the same, so what does it matter?
[ He accepted that years ago. God, they were so stupid. Why couldn't they just see and understand that his time was shrinking more and more? He didn't want to feel. He didn't want to try or believe differently. He knew if he did, he'd only be in pain. ]
... Just--get out. Don't make me ask twice, or I might change my mind about how pissed I am about this, and I don't think someone who values his life would want to die, would you?
[ It isn't a threat so much as a promise that he isn't going to be able to hold the door to his mind shut very well if this goes on, because it takes focus and concentration. His breathing is heavy as he tries to move away from Suzaku, turning his back in disgust.
They just had to leave and he had to stay uncaring. That was it. Short, simple. ]
no subject
no subject
[Because that's what he was gathering from all of this. It was that thing in his mind, wasn't it? Charles eyes narrow a little and he'll roll closer, but he's still not too close.]
I would have to ask you the same question, Minato. Surely you must value what time you have left? Let me help you. Please.
[He was watching Suzaku as well, not sure if he should tell the boy to back off a bit or not. Really this whole situation was like walking a fine line. Who knew what would tip it over at any point.]
no subject
I didn't ask for your help!
[ ... It's so unlike him, to raise his voice, but his nerves are on edge and he can't shake the feeling that these people are just trying to torture him, that they're not here to help him in the least.
His hand slowly moves down back to his side, curling into a fist. He takes a shaky, uneven breath, trying to calm himself. His words are slow and icy when they're finally spoken. ]
... I should be laughing. Your views are naive and childish. I don't fear dying, neither does my team. We don't fear much when it comes to pain of any sort. I'd much sooner die than remain a labrat again.
no subject
He tries to concentrate, he doesn't go away in case the other man needed help, but he will let him do the talking, since Suzaku was obviously just making the boy more annoyed.]
