[Sent and Received]
Characters: Asch and whoever wants to join the hasslesquad
Setting: July 10th, multiple floors
Format: Meh.
Summary: Senior redhead returns from dead homeworld, and takes care of a few loose ends.
Warnings: Dead homeworld shit.
Dorm Hallways
[Here's a figure who hasn't been around in a while - after waking up back in that too-familiar bed, Asch started roaming the dorm halls, checking the names on the doors. He pauses at a few - some names that are still there, some that haven't been there in a while. His expression is mostly considering, a few spots of relief -
At one door on the fifth floor, he stops a moment longer, before shaking his head fiercely and walking further down the stairs.]
Meadow
[If you're stopping off here, it might take a moment to spot Asch, nearly at the far wall from the staircase. Red hair among red and orange flowers, not unlike daisies - it might be that this spot has had special care taken of it, but who knows.
Either way, here's a redhead gathering a few flowers, oranges and yellows and green leaves, and then he takes a seat to braid them together around the scabbard of his sword. A keen eye might spot a poppy or two in the braid, not native to this meadow. Never hurts to be prepared, after all.
And if you're listening close, you might hear the faintest sound of a song as he works -
Do you hear this Tower sing?
Singing a song that's writ in green...]
Mailroom
[And in the late evening, nearly sunset -
A simple note, unsigned, is folded around one of those flowers. I looked for you. I don't think you'd want to know what I found. There's no address, either - it's just folded carefully and dropped into the mail. The flower is all the address it really needs. It takes Asch a long time to close the drop box and step away with a sigh.]
Pain in the ass.
[From him, it's almost the sound of affection.]

Dorm hallways
She's on her way to check on that now, just stepping off the stairwell for his floor, when she looks up and sees a redhead down the hall. Her eyes go wide and she takes off running, heading straight for him.]
You're back...!
Dorm Hallway--fifth floor
What the...?
no subject
Miss me that badly?
no subject
It's nothing.
[Tsun tsun he doesn't feel anything for your old roomie nope.]
no subject
[There's not even a moment's hesitation. She manages a smile when she catches up to him, and the expression on her face is one of pure relief. It was comforting to be able to see her friends here - when they're in front of her, she can be sure that they're not hurt or dead or something worse.
Asch doesn't look as if he's been injured, but he does look exhausted. If he's been where Sheba thinks he has, she can understand why.]
I'm so glad you're back. I kept checking, so I knew you weren't gone for good... but it's a relief to see you again.
no subject
[It's the closest he'll say to "glad to be back," because even if it's the better of the two options, it's still a terrible choice to make. He shakes the thought away, a few loose strands of hair falling into his face.
There's some echo of Sheba's relief, though. At least there's someone to come back to. He's quiet for a good long moment.]
...Really makes everything feel like a waste, when it was all destroyed anyway.
no subject
Right. Looking for something?
no subject
No. Just remembering.
[Ambiguous answers to ambiguous questions.]
no subject
[Sheba is quiet for a long moment, too; the answer is in response to it not being a vacation - she's returned to her dead world once already - and in response to everything feeling like a waste. She didn't lose as much as Asch did in the process of trying to save Weyard, but it was sort of a slap in the face to have worked so hard to save the world from a slow decline only to have it destroyed in a flash.
It must be worse for him, she thinks. He'd given up so much in the name of fixing Auldrant, and yet...
She brings up a hand to touch his shoulder, but if it seems as though he's uncomfortable with it, she'll pull her hand back. Otherwise, it'll stay there.]
It hurts to have seen that. I'm sorry you had to. ...do you want to talk about it? If you do, I'll listen.
no subject
[Well, this is a good indicator of why they never interact. Also too bad you caught him when he doesn't have anything urgent to do.]
no subject
[It's so, so fucking complicated, AUpliku. Losing things hurts, especially when they're things you love.]
no subject
The battle was between two different ways of saving the world. Van wanted to destroy everything and start fresh, and we wanted to save what was.
[It's strange to think of himself as a part of that "we" now, but in the end, he was the same as them. Too attached to the world as it was to throw it away, even if it had its flaws.]
And all for nothing.
no subject
Do they have anything to do with the blond guy who used to live here?
[He may not know about their relationship, but he's seen Asch hang around before, and he's probably not friends with Wilheim or the other guy who left...certainly not Riku himself. Riku's got a 25% of being right.]
no subject
[Her voice is very quiet, but firm, and her gaze is steady. It's true that Auldrant has been destroyed - the world itself is devoid of life.]
You're still alive. As long as you can keep going... there's still hope, isn't there? [She bites her lip and is silent for a moment or two as she considers what to say next.] Maybe right now Auldrant is a wasteland, but its people aren't gone. Not entirely. You're here, and so are others from your world. As long as even one of you is still alive, there's a chance you can find a way to restore it.
...and even if you don't... the people who were there once still live on in you. Right here. [She reaches over to very briefly tap where his heart is.] In your heart and in your memories. Your experiences on your world have helped to make you who you are. They've helped form you. That's not nothing... that's something. Something wonderful.
no subject
[Oops, you turned on the snark.]
no subject
But if there's one thing he isn't good at, it's being hopeful. A Fon Master who hated the world, a replica with no identity of his own, a spoiled brat, a greedy guardian, and him. None of them really worth saving, if you can only save one.]
Something wonderful, huh.
[He doesn't hold on to empty hopes. Doesn't deceive himself into thinking that he'll ever get home.
Maybe, if he's lucky, a few "saved" souls will find their way back. If he's lucky, then somewhere there is an Auldrant that is more than rubble and dust, somewhere where his eventual death will mean more for the world tthan this. That's the sort of thing he hopes for.]
There's nowhere to go back to. That's why we have to fight for the little we have here.
Meadows if that's okie dokie
At first it sounded like someone was whispering something but as she stretched herself and listened carefully, she sort of picked up the faintest sound of a song being recited. She blinked, not quite sure what to make of it but forced herself up to find the owner f the faint sound she heard. ]
no subject
[Sheba has a look on her face like there's no way he'll be able to convince her otherwise. Asch has probably known for awhile that she doesn't see him the same way he sees himself, though.]
As long as you don't give up the fight, then not everything is lost. [She manages a very small smile.] We might never go home, but we can always carry the most precious memories of the people that made our worlds home with us for as long as we're still fighting. And no one here is going to give up... there's still a lot of things we can do.
You were gone when it happened, but a few days ago a group of people started making a plan to... try something. Have you been back long enough to hear about that yet?
no subject
[And then he remembers that 'Guy' was the name of the person he was referring to.]
...You could've just said yes or no, y'know.
no subject
I just woke up an hour or two ago - I haven't had the chance to look at anything.
[Except that apparently people were back to sleeping in the dorms, which meant that Ruana's game was over and control of the Tower had changed hands.]
What did I miss?
no subject
[She does. And after the elevator she wasn't sure she'd ever skip a checkup again - the sight of an approaching retrieval unit brings back too many bad memories - but now there's more of a purpose to risking it.]
If I remember right from February, there are a lot of those units down there. But I don't think there's so many that they'd be able to force a large group of people to go... not if they all skipped at the same time. Someone on the network suggested we try that. I think it might work, and that when the administrators are busy trying to get everything back on schedule, we might be able to learn something about how things work around here so we can use it to help us do whatever it is we have to do before our last year is up.
no subject
So that's the plan, then?
[He folds his arms. It's probably stupid; it might end in them being sent back, by accident or intentionally, and that's not something he wants any time soon.
But there's nothing to gain if you don't risk anything, either.]
Count me in.
no subject
How does it matter to you anyway?
Fine with me!
He's still humming under his breath as the band of flowers is finished and he starts wrapping it around the top of his sword's scabbard, letting a few leaves dangle further down the sheath.]
no subject
I was just curious is all.
Yay!
Clearly, she would rather not surprise people since she knew it would not end well. ]
Hello, that song your humming sounds nice. What is it?
[ There were many people in the Tower that she had not met before, but have seen or caught a glimpse of once or twice. ]
Hallways
Hey.
no subject
[Sheba brightens up considerably and brings both her hands together as she smiles. She had been set on taking part in the boycott regardless, but with Asch also taking part, she feels a little better about it.
At the same time she feels a little guilty for dragging him into something that may be dangerous - but he didn't have to say yes. And if this works out, it will be worth it...]
Thank you. Thank you so much!
no subject
[Really there's not. It makes him look awkward.]
I usually go in the morning, so we may as well have a nice breakfast instead.
[COOKING.]
no subject
It's not that important.
no subject
It's the song Feferi Peixes put on the network about a month ago.
[He kind of memorized it during his visit home, whoops.]
aw yiss
Hey. Did I miss anything interesting?
no subject
no subject
I think I've heard of her name before. I just never met her officially.
[ She replied. ] It sounds nice though.

[Nolo for life, brothing.]
no subject
[He's still very weirded out by death okay.]
No worries!
[ She looked off before adding. ]
You sounded nice singing.
