It Must Be Done

Characters: Signless and Psiioniic
Setting: Their room
Format: prose
Summary: Signless knows there's only one thing to do now - he has to kill his moirail.
Warnings: Violence, angst and character death

It had been growing more and more clear to him over the last week or so. Psiioniic may or may not have betrayed him - he didn't know. But what he did know was that there was really only one way to deal with the situation. He had to kill Psiioniic.

Maybe then, he would come back, recovered. Maybe this wasn't even Psiioniic at all, but a simulacrum and the real Psiioniic would appear if the fake one were killed. A dozen different scenarios had played themselves out in his head, and he knew he just had to try it, and see what happened.

He got up and approached the sleeping troll, drawing his sickles from his specibus.

Ψiioniic had never been a sound sleeper - the voices of the doomed ringing in his mutant brain had kept him up long past dawn more nights than not. Add to that sweeps of living in hiding and on the run from the Imperial Army, plus the difficulty in sleeping without sopor on these strange 'beds, and he was prone to wake up at the slightest noise around him.

Normally he simply went right back to sleep again, and he nearly did this time too. He opened his eyes enough to register the presence of his moirail, then closed them again.

Then they flew open as he remembered that his vision wasn't reliable anymore. He might be loooking at some point in the future when Signless would be standing there, and all the while a total stranger - or the damned drones that had taken him to be experimented on - might be looming over him. "SS? Ith that you?"

Psi sent me :)

Suzaku chose the best time to walk through the door. Usually he was going to bed as his roomates woke up and today he was a little early, he was pale and trembling, his eyes wide.

Corpses, they were everwhere, blood, the room stank of it, blood and corpses and screams for help. There was not a moment of clarity, Suzaku no longer knew what was real and what was not. It all felt real, as far as he knew it was real. Corpses and blood and screaming this is what the world had become.

He saw Psiioniic. More a monster now than anything, a monster who would not hesitate to harm them. Signless was there, with weapons, it was a good idea. Kill him, kill their roomate before he could kill them first.

He moved towards them eyes dark.

Signless might have sounded calm on the surface, but Ψiioniic had known him long enough to hear the note of tension beneath. It was especially worrying when he realized that the Signless he could see was standing there holding his sickles, like he was getting ready for a fight.

Were they under attack? Or maybe the rebel group was attacking the tower? Either way he could imagine Signless would want to keep him out of it, helpless as he was at the moment. That didn't mean he didn't at least want to know.

"Why are you armed? Ith everything okay?" he asked, pushing himself up further. There was no way he was going to get back to sleep now.

"Everything's fine Psiioniic," Suzaku lied fealing an overwhelming urge to cry. He didn't though, he hadn't cried since Euphemia died, he remembered a hospital room and a similar lie. Everything's going to be alright

The moment passed and Suzaku was once again covered in corpses, calling out to him, screaming at him, begging him for help. The only way to help was to kill Psiioniic.

Something, something deep down inside him told him that was wrong, that Psiioniic was his friend. He remembered vagualy protecting him, he was his friend. But now... now he was a monster and he had to die.

He looked at Signless who was stood with his sickles. "It has to be done." Screaming filled his head again, but this time they seemed to be agreeing.

"What? Wait, no," Ψiioniic said, scrambling back and nearly falling out of the sleeping rectangle on the other side before he got his feet under him. "SS, what are you doing? Suzaku?"

SS had never raised a hand to him, never. Why was he aggressing now? It didn't make any sense!

"Ith this because of what you were thaying the other day?" he asked frantically, hands up as he backed away from the other two. He was all but helpless at the moment and he knew it. He only thanked the gods that Signless wasn't above him in the hemospectrum, so he didn't have to fight the compulsion to obey him on top of everything else.

Suzaku followed eyes set, he had to do this. Screams echoed in his ears and the corpses climbed higher. His hands curled into fists; this monster was trying to stop them. If they let it go the tower would be in danger. "Do as he says Psi." He reached out to grab the troll, to make him stay still.
