Still, that doesn't stop her from smiling in return, though her eyes remain open--especially after hearing that tone of his which confuses her. Is he laughing at her? Or maybe he's just trying to make the most of this situation.

Opting for the second choice, she points to his oatmeal and shakes her head. "Not exactly. Only new arrivals have to eat that stuff, and in my opinion, it tastes too nasty to want to eat it any other time," she finishes with an embarrassed smile. Okay, so maybe it had been more obvious than she had thought, but she's too stubborn to admit it.
