[When the Handmaid doesn't feel like thinking, she defaults to what's expected of her: That is, violence. So she's been roaming the Tower the past few days, fighting whatever monsters (or residents) she comes across. Of course, immortal doesn't mean invulnerable, so she's retreated to the spring room, which seems to be the most consistently peaceful floor, to patch herself up. The grass around her is littered with bandages, but the gash on her arm requires stitches, and she's doing a pretty sloppy job of sewing herself up. Whatever. It'll do, right? It's not like she can bleed out.]

[Except he kind of trails off at the end because... that had been his thought for so long. And now he knows... it doesn't work. It all... fails. Guh...]

[Her frown deepens. He might have succeeded, too, if she and Lord English hadn't intervened. She doesn't know what to say, so she just looks away.]

[He... stays silent for a long while, eyes lowered. Normally he'd be reassuring her, trying to prove that there are good reasons to be confident. That she can overcome whatever highblood it is that has hurt her so badly]

[But... he's pretty damn unsure himself, so... Eventually he looks at her again, and he... hates the way she refuses to look at him]

[She considers this, and totally doesn't realize she's rubbing her thumb over his knuckles as she thinks.]

[...well he realizes it. And his eyes get drawn to their hands once again. Oooooh goooooosh, squeezes her hand, voice quiet]

[She shrugs. It is true--if he hadn't done a good job, the rebellion wouldn't have lasted nearly as long as it did. But that seemed to be the right thing to say, so...]

The Condesce was so afraid of another rebellion after yours that she banished the adults from the planet.
