Ooh, let them eat cake
Characters: Chidori Yoshino; Open
Setting: The Kitchen/Cafeteria
Format: Action
Summary: There are things to cook with, though they aren't exactly real. Chidori capitalizes anyway.
Warnings: Probably just language
[Kitchen]
[Early morning of the eighth, finds an unusual sight in the tower's kitchen. Chidori, having woken earlier than usual to finish her tower-appointed work before getting her own breakfast, has overtaken the kitchen.]
--some gone off to their fall, lord have mercy on them...
[She's singing distractedly, almost as if she doesn't realize she's doing so at all, her voice barely audible over the clattering of pans and sounds of someone preparing to do more than their share of cooking.]
Are we really living or just wal-king dead now? Or dreaming of a hope riding the wings of angels...
[She's setting out baking trays and pans to one side, mixing bowls and utensils to the other, ingredients right in front of her. Sleeves pinned up, apron in place, she even ties her hair back with a ribbon before nodding in satisfaction and reaching for the flour.]
The way we live, the way we die- what a tragedy, I'm so te-rri-fied...
[Interrupt? Help? Up to you.
[Cafeteria]
[There are a lot of baked goods on the tables around lunchtime.
A lot.
If there's one thing Chidori appreciates about the enormous walk-in ovens, it's that she can bake a lot at one time-- and if she needs to pop in while they're on, she generally leaves feeling a little refreshed because of her persona's fire-eating abilities. That said, she may or may not have made more than she can reasonably finish off on her own throughout the day, so she's set up a hastily-made sign:
And beneath it is a (for a while at least) seemingly still-expanding array of sweets- sugar cookies, raspberry cheesecake, lemon meringue pie, chocolate cake with chocolate mousse in between the layers, angel food cake and a peach cobbler.
When she's finally finished, she barely eats any of her lunch before reaching for a slice of cheesecake to go with the mug of tea she's got at the ready.
Better get to whatever you want before someone else does.]

FREE FOR TOWER RESIDENTS
--Yoshino
And beneath it is a (for a while at least) seemingly still-expanding array of sweets- sugar cookies, raspberry cheesecake, lemon meringue pie, chocolate cake with chocolate mousse in between the layers, angel food cake and a peach cobbler.
When she's finally finished, she barely eats any of her lunch before reaching for a slice of cheesecake to go with the mug of tea she's got at the ready.

Cafeteria
A slice was already cut from the... pudding-like cake with the raspberries atop it. Best to take a slice of his own from that, then. Which he did, plating it up and finding a fork... and then casting a look at Chidori, who was having a slice of the very same.]
I'm not familiar with this kind of dessert. What's it called?
no subject
[She offers forward a fork from nearby, tilting her head slightly.]
It's very creamy, and I like to think this one came out rather well.
no subject
[He looks skeptical, now. And then uncertain. Knowing precisely what went into the composition of sweets wasn't anywhere near being a specialty of his. Maybe most cakes contained cheese and he simply didn't know it? No, no, that was foolish....
He shrugs, takes the fork, separates out a bite, and pops it in his mouth. His eyes go wide, and there's a muffled sound, more or less to the effect of 'this is very good', as he chews and forks up another piece.]
no subject
I can make it in chocolate too, just so you know.
no subject
...if you were to do so, I would very much like to try it.
[Yes, yes, let's hold back that enthusiasm a little... it's unseemly. He tries to exercise a little restraint as he resumes eating the slice of raspberry cheesecake, even though he'd be happy to just power it down as fast as he could.]
no subject
I could certainly make you one, if you would like.
[She shrugs, and takes another bite of her own cake.]
It wouldn't be much trouble.
no subject
[Such seriousness over the matter of cheesecake... but he's a rather serious man. Though the haste with which he's taking care of the rest of his slice of cheesecake may be taking the edge off of the image he's trying to present.
Kain finishes up shortly, then sets the plate and fork aside.]
...forgive me. I've been rude. I am Kain Highwind. And you would be...?
no subject
[Chidori considers it a compliment if her cooking is good enough to make people forget their manners. She tilts her head a bit in greeting, taking up a bit more of her own cake.]
A pleasure, Kain- I would be Chidori Yoshino.
no subject
[He begins to start towards the remaining sweets, hesitates a moment... then gives in and snatches up a sugar cookie.]
...this is a rare treat, here. The supplies usually aren't available. I don't think these will last very long out here.
[Not if everyone else in the tower has as much of a sweet tooth as him, anyway.]
no subject
[After all, she'd hate for all her hard work to go to waste.]
But if you really want that chocolate cheesecake, you'll have to tell me when. I wouldn't want to spring it on you when you haven't the appetite.
no subject
Mph... I shall. I don't wish to impose, however. I know that some people have jobs in this tower. Or other people that occupy their time...
no subject
[She really does smile now, amused, and pushes a plate of cookies toward him.]
It helps to have something to do other than the usual busywork.
