[ there isn't much going on here. the art gallery usually doesn't have many people in it due to the disturbing imagery tacked onto the walls, but the grand highblood stands in front of a large animated painting, his eyes dull and sort of fixed on the slow undulating motion of the waves painted on the canvas. It's a picture of a stormy sea, dark and chaotic, waves crashing on top of each other over and over.... ]

...So you like this one? [John... did not follow very much of that. But he's trying to make conversation, because it seems that he definitely isn't feeling okay.]

[Congrats, John's question cuts through the highblood's hypnotized state completely, and he just. Stares. At John.]

Does it all motherfucking LOOK like a thing that can be getting a brother's like on? It's the motherfucking ocean. [he gestures to it, rolling his eyes like DUH that is totally obvious!]

Well, I kind of like the ocean! [This is getting really awkward really fast, but John is determined to press on.] Um, I guess you don't, though.

No, it is a motherfucking no-go for the Grand Highblood. The memory is all kinds of motherfucking foggy and vague as to where I all heard about the dangers of the ocean, but that is a truth that no one can motherfucking deny. [He's not...sure why he just spilled his guts to a little human, but there's really no harm in it, he supposes.]

[Hmm. The ocean must be different on Alternia. Sure, the Earth ocean is dangerous, but... not like that!] So I guess this painting is all you're going to get, huh?

[grandhighblood]

[He snorts]

Yeah. It's better that way. [Then he sighs heavily.] So, what is it you are motherfucking doing here? Listening to me speak, spill my motherfucking guts?

Well, I don't normally come onto this floor often, but you looked kind of upset! So I wanted to see if something was wrong.

[grandhighblood]

Is that so? And just what were you all motherfucking planning on doing once you all found out what was bothering a brother? [he shifts slightly to face John, his face nearly expressionless.]

[windykind]

Uh... I dunno. Talk to you about it, I guess? [He shrugs.] I wasn't going to leave you be if you were feeling bad about something! Talking it out helps, you know. [See, he knows this stuff. His friend is a psychologist.]

[grandhighblood]

Talking about how bad a motherfucker feels. [He frowns at this.] Talking doesn't all sound like a proper way to be handling shit, but hey, guess I can't knock it if I haven't all tried it.

[this is dangerously close to something like a feelings jam, but he's pretty sure he can reign in his words. just be cool, man. he can handle this.]

Well, I don't know why, but I know that I always feel better when I tell someone else about the problem! It doesn't fix the problem, but it makes you feel better so you can fix the problem with a clear head.

Heh, all right. Fine. I can motherfucking respect that. [Then a beat.]

When I was a motherfucking wriggler, I built my hive all up on the rockiest shores of Alternia's beaches. Wave after wave, that shit, the motherfucking ocean, crashed and beat into my walls. They were strong, but my hive was stronger. The sound used to lull my goofy ass to sleep. [Another pause, trying to recall long-lost memories from centuries ago. Some were still vivid, but many remained lost to him.]

I was told the ocean was a motherfucking place of turbulence. It was dangerous for little land trolls like myself, as I was pretty fucking small back then, to be all playing by the beach... and...hmmm. [he furrows his eyebrows, falling silent all of a sudden. But then suddenly perks up with an Aha moment.] Yeah, that's motherfucking right. I all fell in one day, those waves reached out for my foolish ass and dragged me out into the pitch black water. Thought I blacked out for a second it was so motherfucking dark. I came to a little while later, and before I all could even finish hacking up all the salt water from my motherfucking lungs, the fucker kicked me.

[He laughs, looking back at the painting. There's a faltering pause like he's recalling that particular moment.] Yeahhhh, the ol' goat really gave it to me pretty motherfucking good. Think I almost died, heh heh heh.

[At first John is eager to listen to the Highblood's story, and he can understand the terminology somewhat well from conversations with the trolls. But as it goes on his face changes from a smile, to a frown, to an expression that could be best described as "D:".] Oh no! I guess you're okay, but I'm sorry that happened to you.

[Pause.]

...You know, my friend Rose always said that when things like that happen when you're a kid--er, a wriggler, then when you grow up you start to get scared of them for no reason... do you think you want to get over that fear? There's a pool here.

[Smile. So hopeful.]
