Summary: Dax discusses the Tower with someone where the residents can overhear.
Warnings: none

[There's no way to access floor twenty-three, of course. Therefore, while there are certainly voices drifting up from it, there's no way to reach the source of the voices. Still, it's easy enough to sit on the staircase and listen in.

The first voice would be identifiable, by those who have spent enough time in this tower, as Dax. He sounds distressed.]

Don't you think they've had enough of this? It's--between you and Jason they're not going to trust anything I say, you know.

[The female voice is one that has been heard in snatches over the network before, but never quite so clearly as this.]

I agreed to your scheduling, didn't I? Your turn is next month. Anyway, I'm almost done.

[animusnpcs]

There's no way I can just--just go talk to them and explain. They don't even think we've saved them anymore, you know.

[animusnpcs]

We did, and that's why a few games now and again aren't too big a deal. I mean, they owe us. And it doesn't do any real damage.

Just because we bring them back--

[She shushes Dax, cutting him off.]

We bring them back. Nothing lasts, so it's no big deal.

[The emphasis is almost threatening--she's daring him to disagree with her again.]

[animusnpcs]

[Dax doesn't seem willing to push his luck in the disagreeing department, though. After a pause, he sighs.]

Tomorrow I'll have control, right?

[animusnpcs]

That's what we agreed on.

[The girl laughs.]

I just have one more game tonight. Then you're free to do--well, I suppose you'll reorganize things, as always.

[animusnpcs]

[Another sigh.]

This place certainly needs it.
