[o3] ‸^‸ Third Song.
Characters: Link (
ocariness) and Naoto (
detecting).
Setting: The Dormitory Floor hallways. Backdated to before the current event. Like, WAY before.
Format: Brackets would be faster.
Summary: Link has heard something rather unexpected from Yosuke, Naoto's friend, and wants to confront her about it.
Warnings: Possible spoilers for Persona 4, and maybe Ocarina of Time. Otherwise, none!
[ Yosuke's little slip-up had put Link in a bit of an... odd position. This meant Naoto, whom she had ironically assumed all along to be male, was the same as her: only pretending to be such.
If that was the case, then she needed to at least know she wasn't alone. Truthfully, Link was unsure as to how to approach this particular incident--she wasn't the best at communicating, and she certainly had no idea how social customs worked in Naoto's world.
Never mind that this was already something that was difficult for her to discuss; she hadn't even revealed this to anyone in the Tower yet (and honestly, had no plans to do so as long as she could help it.)
... And as courageous as Link WAS, telling people the truth was never easy for her. Not in her world; she wasn't divinity or royalty, so being a female who happened to also have the destiny to become a hero thrust on her made things... difficult. The cultureshock alone from her Forest life to becoming older was hard, but this seemed even worse to admit to, now that she'd gotten into the habit of hiding every possible means of looking or sounding at all feminine. Nevertheless, she knew she HAD to speak with Naoto. Perhaps she could find a friend in her plight here.
When she found the detective alone, she quietly called out. ]
... Do you mind if we speak in private somewhere? I'd prefer not to be overheard.
[ Short, simple, fairly polite. But Link couldn't mask the trepidation on her face--it was obvious something was bothering her. She only hoped that Naoto could understand her position. ]

Yes, thank you, that would be best.
[ After you, Naoto. She can't help but hope this doesn't seem strange. ]

Is everything alright?

I don't wish to make you uncomfortable, only to say that you are not alone.
[ That is not very elaborated, Link, dear. Come on. Pausing! What are social skills. How to... put this delicately, because she knows it's an issue. ]
... We're the same.
[ She hopes she won't need to elaborate, but... if Naoto is ANYTHING like she is, then she knows she'll probably deny or jump around the subject as much as possible. ]

... I don't think I understand. In what way, exactly?

[ She looks kind of embarrassed right now, and just sort of glances away, leaving out any and all attempts at hiding her nervousness now, including the usual of trying to make her voice a little more androgynous. A little lower than it was. She sort of wishes that she could just melt into the floor, but she knows she can't, and sighs. A minute or so passes before she just... takes a breath, and forces the words out. ]
I... do not take this wrongly, it was not that it was terribly obvious to me at first. It is merely that I... was hoping you might understand my position. And that, perhaps, we could be friends.
[ There. She said it. See, not hard. ... Okay no it was awfully difficult. Link kind of stares at the floor, before just bringing her hand to her earring, messing with it. ]
... In all honesty, I have never been very comfortable with myself or the roles that were thrust on me, particularly after I... aged. I attempted to talk to Hanamura about it, but he is rather--well, I could not exactly bring myself to tell him. I do not think he could understand. It is not so simple when one is afraid of others viewing them with contempt or scorn because they are not male.
But I had a feeling that you might understand. I only hope I was not wrong.
