Characters: The Spanish Empire and you
Setting: The cafeteria
Format: Starting prose, matching you.
Summary: This tower is now claimed by the Spanish Empire.
Warnings: Spain is armed! And this is also a reminder that Spain is reset and from Imperial times now.

Of course Spain didn't panicwhen he woke up in a place that wasn't the last place he remembered. Okay, perhaps he panicked a little bit but not too much because empires have nothing to fear, especially when you're the most powerful empire in the world. After reading the letter several times over, he wasn't sure if he believed what it said. In fact, he was quite positive that the letter wasn't true because, well, the end of the world simply was not meant to end that way, at least, not according to his Church. This was a hoax of some sort-- a conspiracy set up by those Protestants-- and while he had no idea where he was, that only meant he had some exploring to do. In his opinion, this tower seemed much more harmless than the Americas. Really, this place was lacking when it came to the poisonous trees, toxic frogs, and hostile natives (or so he thought).

Armed with a sword and dagger, the Spanish empire began to explore. There had to be other people present. There were always people around. After some exploring, he eventually finds himself in the cafeteria. Maybe you're enjoying a meal or maybe you're just socializing or just walking in behind him-- Spain isn't going to pretend to know what you're doing. In fact, that isn't even important right now because Spain has a much more important announcement to make.

"Ay!" Spain yells when he sees people, "I am the Spanish Empire and I claiming this tower for myself! Do you understand?"

So the first person to speak up was a woman? Spain wasn't sure if this meant she was incredibly important or simply very brave but either way, it meant he should have some respect. Spain smiled charmingly at her, "And who would they be, miss?"

Canada was still unsure about this Spain. Who knew if he really wanted to take over the tower. It would get nowhere of course, but best to cut him off at the pass.

"...We've several? France, South Italy, Germany, Holland, me and America? I'm quite sure they won't agree to this?...Are you really from the time when you were an empire?"

"Huh? Impossible." Spain frowns as she begins to list the nations present. He even returns his sword to his side once he figures it probably wouldn't be wise to start a fight with some of the nations present. The young woman listed several nations he wasn't familiar with but he didn't think too much of it because there were plenty of lands he hadn't discovered yet but her last question gets him, "Of course I am an empire. I'm the greatest empire in the world."

She covers her mouth to hide what was surely an impolite laugh. Oh god it had been so long since she'd dealt with the arrogance of empires. Wow, was this man really the same person as the Spain she was familiar with?

"I'm afraid you are not any longer. I'm Canada, from North America, year 2011. You, Spain, have not been an empire for quite some time..."

Oh if he was really an empire with that sort of pride, that may not have been the smartest thing to say.

Spain isn't sure why she's laughing. He didn't say anything funny, or at least, he didn't mean to but then again, he didn't exactly have a way with words when it came to these things. However, Spain doesn't seem upset by what he's been told. "But I am and you're mistaken; it's 1580."

She shook her head quite firmly and settled her hands on her lap.

"2011. I'm the nation of Canada. A former colony of England in Northern America. You're probably quite disoriented right? We've been kidnapped, apparently from different times and universes."

"Fifteen-eighty and I've never heard of Canada and Inglaterra will never have colonies." Spain sounds positive of himself. For him, Canada is still going by the name New France and England is failing miserable at settling colonies. "But you say you're from Northern American? I've never seen you before."

Canada shook her head, raising an eyebrow. This was going to be a struggle apparently.

"I am also a former colony of France and for portions of me, the Netherlands. But it is really the twenty first century--Oh your version of me is male, a tiny child?"

Everything is a struggle when it comes to the Spanish empire. "Do you mean New France? No, that was a little boy. . . at least, that's what I think Francia said. I don't really listen to him. You aren't making any sense."

Canada made a last ditch effort to explain it all in one go. Let's see how this works.

"I come from a world where all the males nations of your world are female and vice versa. New France, that is to say, the colony that will become Canada, is me. In your world, of course New France is a boy. And I am from 2011."

Spain is speechless. If one didn't know better, they would think it was thoughtful silence but it's Spain and he doesn't spend that much time thinking about what was said. He raises an eyebrow and tries to figure out the best way to say the things that are on his mind,

"Are you. . . ah, that is. . . Have you been drinking?"

She can't help the laugh that slips out. Oh god this must sound terribly confusing to him. She wouldn't have believed it back then either.

"No I've not, but trust me. Nearly all of us are from the modern era. You will learn the same things from everyone else..."

It is horribly confusing but he won't let anyone see that. After all, he has an image to uphold. He frowns when she laughs but he tries to not let it get to him. The woman was obviously intoxicated that would explain her courage, "I'm not sure. Everything you say doesn't make sense and aah, perhaps you should rest. I can help you if you'd like. . ."

"I know it doesn't make sense...It would be easier if you were from my world, then you would at least recognize me. But I don't need any help and I do know what I'm talking about."

"You speak as though you really mean there are two different worlds. I know Europe is Old but the New World is still part of the same."

"...I forgot you called us the New World. I mean to say that I am from a different universe than you entirely. I am from a world where you are a woman. She is here actually, somewhere."

Spain laughs. This is more ridiculous than England's stories and that's really saying something. "Is that so?" Seems like Spain is going along with it now, "I would love to see this world."

There were very few things Canada hated more than being patronized and she felt as if that was exactly what was going on. Patronize the crazy female nation.

"We aren't all smiles, pretty hair and skirts. Woman are just as capable as men, as I am sure you will find out. We just tend to be prettier to look at."

If Spain is getting on her nerves, he can't tell. He was never very good at that sort of thing and he never will be. "Of course, of course," He says, but it's obvious he doesn't really believe it, at least, not now. "And why should I believe a word you're saying?"

"I suppose you don't have to and I've no close history with you to compare, to prove that I am who I say I am. I know you think I am crazy...I'm sorry, but I do speak the truth."

She laid her hands in her lap and looked up at him with a touch of sadness. She really wishes she could explain better for him. It's never fun to be confused.

"Sí, it does sound crazy." He doesn't say this with any sort of malice, more like he's just stating the obvious. "What did you say your name was?"

"I'm Canada..." She repeated. He would find out better from the others, there was no need to press the issue anymore, she supposed.

"Canada, right." Spain nods and he looks thoughtful for a moment, "I'll believe you're a nation for now. The world is big and there's a lot I haven't seen yet! But ah, alternate realities, well, that's something for Inglaterra."

She smiled sweetly and nodded, "Of course, you will learn what is true and what is not by yourself, right?"

Finally, a smile and Spain decides he likes that better. "Ah, I already know what is and isn't." Meaning, no, he doesn't really but he thinks he does. "But if I have any questions, I can find you, correct?"
