ITP: Let's learn a barrier spell.

Characters: [AU] Ventus and Eraqus
Setting: Room 2-20 then to the meadow.
Format: Action
Summary: Venau is finally learning a barrier spell.
Warnings: None. Will update if any come up.

Eraqus... I have a request. [It had taken him who knew how long to get up the nerve to even really say that. A big part of him was rebelling at this idea - telling him that it was a dumb idea, that he should just go to Xehanort, but another part of him knew that it was the best way to learn and he was, admittedly, more familiar with Eraqus's teaching style. And if it came down to it, Eraqus was slightly better than Aqua in Ventus's mind. And even then that was negligible, given that Ventus ignored his last roommate most days.

But after the tower-drama of the last while.. There really was no escaping the fact that he needed a barrier spell, or some way of better protecting himself. He doubted he'd use it much, but having it would be a good idea.]

What can I do for you, Ventus?

[He looked at the boy curious, not having expected him to come to him to ask anything. It was clear how he felt about the Master and how he'd avoided speaking with him when possible despite sharing a room.]

Are you alright?

[A touch of concern. No matter how different he was from the Ventus he knew, he was still deserving of the older mans concern.]

...I'm fine. [For now, anyway, but that was neither here nor there. Instead, he paused for a bit before taking a breath.] I want.... I want to learn a barrier spell.

[Another pause then -] It's not something that I've needed before.

Barrier?

[It wasn't a difficult one to teach, let alone learn. He was still surprised that he was asking Eraqus. The Master nodded slightly though, he'd never turn him away. Especially at a request for learning something new.]

I can teach you that.

[A nod.] Thank you. The meadow is the best place.

[Given that Ventus will want to test the strength of the barrier-spell once he learns it.]

[Eraqus stood from where he was relaxing, brushing his clothes so they straighten and give Ventus a small smile before motioning for him to lead the way. Yes, he knew the way but it was Ven who wanted to learn. Better to let him keep control of the situation.]

[While Ventus couldn't see, he could tell when the other had stood up - sound was useful like that if one didn't simply filter it out.

Without a word he led the other out, unerringly finding the door, though once he was out of the dorm, a hand brushed the wall. More for a sense of where he was in the halls than anything. Finding the stairs wasn't an issue either, nor was finding the right floor for the meadow. A few times, Ventus stopped, head cocking to the side before he continued on his path/

It was only when they where at the centre did he speak again.] Here. It's a large enough space. I think.

Yes, it certainly is. We'll have more than enough space to start.

[His apprentices has mostly taught themselves certain spells over the years but they hadn't suffered the way this Ventus had. Eraqus would have to think up a completely different strategy this time.]

Tell me, how do you cast other spells? What do you use inside yourself to fuel them? What do you visualize or think about?

Well, I focus on the magic then cast,I guess. I use my desire to survive and I ....think of doing as much damage as I can at the time. [Ventus shrugged a little. He'd never really thought about the Whys and Hows, only that it worked.]

Good. Very good. The barrier spell will be slightly different. Instead of causing damage, you must think of how much damage you can resist or block.

The strength of a barrier depends on how much focus you put into it, how much you make it resist an attack or spell.
