01 | I may look simple, but I want you to know...

Summary: After a month of solitary confinement, it's time for this detective to start up patrol again...
Warnings: Apart from Adachi being Adachi, and all the potential from that alone, none I can think of. They'll get added if they come.

[By now, Adachi's no stranger to the Tower. It was a bit of a weird adjustment at first, but hey. He can't say he isn't used to that sort of thing by now.

See, things have a habit of never quite going his way.

One second, he's a rising star with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. The next, he's transferred---like a disease---to some hick town in the middle of nowhere.

And only months after Adachi finds a way to spice up his otherwise mediocre life and have a little fun, his game's cut short. He's dragged, yet again, to an unfamiliar place where he'd rather not be.

Same shit. Different shithole.

There are a few familiar elements in play at the Tower, however. Several familiar faces, some of them quite surprising, and at least one or two others he'd rather not see. And now? There's another familiar element in play here.

Yes, the Tower was kind enough to saddle Adachi with security detail. Which is why he's now wandering around from floor to floor, checking in at each location he's been instructed to.

Fun. Stuff.

Once he's finished, of course, he'll spend a bit more of his time lingering around Floor Five. Both to give his full report, and to get yet another look at the one good thing this Tower's given him:

Inaba destroyed.]

[Aleph's also taken a look at the viewing stations. He finds them a bit more unsettling than Adachi does, and the tone of his voice suggests so when he strikes up conversation.]

You can barely tell where they're supposed to be showing us, everything's so ruined.

They probably expect us to use our imaginations.

[Good thing Adachi's is so active. He folds his arms along the railing, staring into the fog and seeing what shapes he can make out.]

I don't really think these are our homes. Do you?

It's quite a view, isn't it.

[You may want to check your back Adachi. Because there's a young woman standing right behind you, looking at the viewing stations along with you.

The funny thing is that she shouldn't have been there. It made no logical sense for her to be here. There was no sound of footfalls, no nothing. It's like she just appeared there.

Just appeared right out of thin air.]

[Well. This wouldn't be the first time this sort of thing has happened to him here. For a moment, her sudden arrival catches him off-guard but... slowly he's able to force himself to relax.

She's pretty cute, at least.]

Y-yeah. I'll say.

[You'd think he would have learned his lesson about scary teleporting women by now.]

[Oh, never change Adachi. Clearly you'll never learn your lesson quite enough.

Louisa will begin to walk closer towards him, but never look at him. She'll keep her gaze on the monitors, smiling a little.]

Which one is supposed to be yours?

[She already knows which one Inaba is. But she supposes it's just polite to feign ignorance, in a way, at this point.]

[It's safe to say Xehanort doesn't believe anything that floor five shows him. This sort of thing is easily fabricated, eaten up by the weak at heart.

And that's why he's here. Reading the hearts of those who come here seeking absolution of some sort. Those here in a depressed funk. Those here out of curiosity.

It really takes all kinds.

It's almost refreshing to see someone who isn't crippled by fear or anger or depression at the thought of whatever homeworld they came from ceasing to exist.]

And how was the show for you?

[Adachi glances at Xehanort out of the corner of his eye. The old man's assessment is pretty accurate, believe it or not: even after losing his world, Adachi's not truly afraid to see it gone. He's not depressed. Not angry. In fact, the closest thing to any sort of anger or depression he may have over the loss of his world is... disappointment.

He shrugs.]

Kinda anti-climactic, if you ask me.

[A wry chuckle.] Indeed. Most people seem to put great stock on this event, as though it's some sort of defining point... something meaningful, something worth railing against.

It's simply an event. Ultimately, it doesn't cease or change much... ah, apart from making those who feel in regards to it exceptionally pathetic.

[Speaking of familiar faces catching you by surprise, one just happens by as he gazes into the terminal. She pulls up next to him, almost sounding sympathetic as she looks with him.]

It's almost enough to make you believe it's really gone, isn't it?

[Oh hey, it's... Hang on a second.]

Huh? You don't think it is?

I'm a little surprised you do. I didn't take you for the gullible type.

[The previous sympathetic tone fades quickly, but surprisingly, she doesn't seem outright hostile.]

But, if it makes you happy to think you got what you wanted, go on, by all means. I wouldn't want to take away your happiness, right?

[The feeling of this Persona was different than that of the others; he had felt something like a familiar pull to what Yu's would give off. Yet there was also darkness surrounding it, perhaps even more than Takeda.

They finally met. So this was Tohru Adachi...odd he would have imagined him taller. Naoya gave him a careful nod, hand still around his semi-automatic machine gun, the sword strapped to his back.]

Senpai.

[Funny, how the minute Eriko had returned, Naoya had slipped just as easily back into using Japanese honorifics. The term carried two meanings - The first the usual politeness that came with addresses those in a figure or authority, but also as a barbed wire and to highlight the megalomania, knowing full well who he was.]

Huh?

[Brats with machine guns. Just when this place couldn't get any worse. But Naoya's voice is what gets more of Adachi's attention. He sounds almost vaguely familiar... Was he from the Network, perhaps?]

Do I know you from somewhere?

[Yes brats with machine guns. Naoya settles his hands on each side of his waist as he has a tendency to do when he stands around. Amon Ra is unusually quiet this time, but he can feel the Persona's mild curiosity...and strange amusement at this person and his Persona. ]

We haven't met before, no.

[Inwardly he shifts uncomfortably. While what he was saying is true, Naoya never liked twisting the truth around like that. Lead by example, after all. Still, he had promised Yu not to be a thorn on Adachi side in the tower if he ever showed up.

That is, unless there was reason to. For now there was none.]

Naoya Toudou. I'm from the the city of Mikage-cho.

[He's unsure of Adachi is knowledgeable about the incident that happened in 1996 involving SEBEC as Dojima was, but he hadn't given him as many clues as he had the other detective.]

[You know how he silently said that he would try to avoid a certain trigger-happy fool regardless of this stupid tower? Yeah, he tried. But the tower just didn't seem too keen on the two representatives hanging out on opposite sides. Maybe it was for the best, considering who they were... or it could be something completely different.

All the same, he frowns even more as he's just about to leave one of those floors Adachi was supposed to check in on to see him standing there.]

...Adachi.

[Nope, no honorific this time... but at least by now he's had time to recover from the mind break that was last month. Thus his calm, neutral tone is only vaguely tinted with all of the disappointment.]

[Disappointed as Yu may be, he doesn't look nearly as disappointed as Adachi does. Just his luck. He would run into Narukami on patrol, wouldn't he?]

Narukami.

[His tone's far from neutral. He's bitter, frustrated, spiteful.]

You staying out of trouble?

[It's a very, very thinly veiled question. And probably not the question Adachi should be asking.]

[At least it wasn't anything remotely close to dread and freaking out this time? No gun out, either. It's progress? Yu raises an eyebrow. What, did someone get a wake up call from Death herself, too ~~no, not going to mention her flirting with his Persona; that was creepy~~?

The question in and of itself begs a response.]

What kind of question is that?

[Seriously, man. He isn't the type to go looking for trouble. It usually finds him. ...Okay, minus a few recent events. Hush.]

I was going to ask you that, since I'm not the one with a record.

[With his recent mental state, coming to this floor probably wasn't a good idea. Just what is it he wants to do, anyway? Remind himself of the destruction they claim? Try once more to prove to himself that everything they say is a lie? Try to find something wrong with the image? There's really no good answer - coming here was a mistake, plain and simple]

[Especially when he sees who else is in the room]

[There's the momentary shock of course - those few seconds when he tries to figure out if his eyes are seeing what he thinks they're seeing. Once those pass, something magical happens. Every single conflicted thought, every single confused feeling, every emotion he hasn't been able to identify and every thought he's wrestled with all at once changes - all of it into anger]

[Whether it's right or wrong, justified or not, there's now a tangible thing for Yosuke to work his frustrations out on - something for him to direct everything at, and oh boy is there a lot to be directed. His fists clench and for the moment, he can only get out one word]

You.

[Adachi freezes in place. Goddamn, how many of Narukami's stooges made it to this Tower, anyway? He sighs, straightening up and turning to face the Prince of Junes.

Narukami, a female Narukami, Shirogane, and now Hanamura. That makes four that he's seen so far, with who knows how many others still lurking around. And judging from what Adachi's learned so far... Both Narukamis know. Shirogane has to know. If they know, then Hanamura has to know, right?

Well. That won't stop Adachi from testing the waters with a friendly greeting all the same. He waves, puts on his best smile.]

Ah, Hanamura! Long time no see.

[Just what game does that son of a bitch think he's playing?! Who does he think he's fooling with that smile and those friendly words? That sick little... but no, the smart thing to do would be to play along. To pretend that it's some alternate world bullshit mix up, to smile and act friendly and to get along with him, to get just close enough to put a knife to his throat and make it clear just what Yosuke thinks of the good detective]

[Fortunately for Adachi (and also for Yosuke's moral compass), anger is overriding common sense. The smart thing doesn't matter, not when this asshole is around and Saki's in the tower too. What matters is... Yosuke's not sure what matters. Anger matters. Wiping that smug look off his face matters. Fuck you, Adachi]

Save your crap, I've already had enough of it.

[Wow, Hanamura. Rude. Adachi sighs in disappointment; looks like he does know after all.]

Manners, kid. You do have 'em, right?

Coming from you? That's a laugh - holding the TV open as you shove someone in doesn't count as manners.

[Urge to deck, rising...]

[Kirigiri often comes here to think. Given the contents of the room, it's a good place to be left alone, and she's disturbed by scenes like these to a much lesser degree than the average person.]

[She slightly lowers her head as Adachi enters, as if to acknowledge his presence. He hasn't registered in her radar yet, so to speak. Analyzing the new arrival holds less priority than thinking about how to prepare for whatever certain other inhabitants are planning.]

You watching the End of the World funtime palooza replay?

[Jade'd stumbled upon this place for a few minutes while she was exploring her first day here. The view wasn't anything that had surprised her at the time.

This time she's just kind of lost on her way to somewhere she didn't know she was going. Which was to say she was bored and wandering.]

[ He'd been staring this floor down ever since his accidental murderspree, which he doesn't remember at all, alas. He has to find something here. He won't look at the viewing stations, he hates them.

Not that... anywhere was home to him anymore, so why should he care? His home is long gone. It died in the car crash. Home wasn't important, the people in it were.

And yet... he has to find a way to free them. He's unfortunately entrenched in these thoughts until he spots Adachi and Thanatos almost instinctively mentally taps him on the shoulder, as if to say, There's someone interesting.

So Minato eventually gets up. And he approaches. ]

... You seem bored.

[Now there's a guy you don't want to meet in a dark alley.

Large, dark red trench coat, a hat that covers most of his head and so close to his eyes it was hard to see them. Yet what sticks out the most is that giant axe he is carrying, slung on his back and the fact he is holding it with only one hand, the other in his left coat pocket. His entire posture indicates that carrying around the giant weapon seems effortless. The bright red SEES armband is tied around his left arm as well, perhaps still a mystery to Adachi at that moment.

He looks at the detective with a typical glare he gives nearly everyone, which is a unfriendly, somewhat uncaring gaze that makes it look like he's judging your entire existence while simultaneously daring you to try and attack him.

He's a scary guy.]

The hell you doing patrolling with just a gun? That ain't safe.

[That's all you'll get from him. A comment about how bad you're doing your job. Such a nice, upstanding young man, isn't he?]
