1 Bite
Characters: Duzell and you!
Setting: Dorms/cafeteria
Format: Action preferred, but I’ll match!
Summary: Duzell’s arrival and wondering what the heck’s going on. It’s just an innocent cat strolling along and taking in the sights. Nothing suspicious here!
Warnings: Maybe biting?
[As soon as he reads the letters, he sets out of the room to see what’s going on outside. The room looks like something of Pheliosta castle. If Lassen and his pawns were trying to trick him into thinking he got teleported to some random place, they had another thing coming. Duzell isn’t going to be fooled by them again.
In case this place really is dangerous (not like he is worried; he is way more powerful than whatever humans he could run across), he decides to prowl around the halls as a cat. He could get away with being cute and no one would suspect a cat of doing anything funny.]
[Duzell finds his way to the cafeteria after hearing some humans talk about it. He just looks at the bowl of oatmeal and sniffs at the weird slimy goop. He makes a disgusted face (as much as a cat can) and bats the bowl aside with his paw. Whoops, looks like he just made a mess. He makes it even worse by stepping over the oatmeal and then walking all over the floor. He’d much rather have blood.
Humans are trusting of cute little animals, right? The kyawl perches on the table and lazily stretches his hind legs. He’ll just curl up and wait for some poor sap to show up and feed him. What cruel soul would let a defenseless cat starve?]

Try me. [He was probably going to think she fell and hit her head really hard on something. He thought the letter about getting rescued from his destroyed world was full of bull. Some brainless moron trying to get his jollies off by pulling a prank that wasn’t even funny.
There was no limit to what her crazy cousin could do. Duzell could just look at Lailis and figure that out right off the bat. But on the same token, no one else hated Ishtar this badly. Her other relatives were tame compared to Lassen.]
An experimental facility… right. And it’s this tower?
Dorms
[ She replied looking off. ] I know what La Gamme does. It's a spell that I wouldn't use unless it was a life or death situation....I still don't...understand why you did it...even though, I kind of do at the same time.
[ She folded her arms to her lap. There was nothing funny about what she had said. Her tone had been dead serious from the moment they started this conversation. Lassen was someone that Ishtar would rather not see anywhere. It was better to not have to deal with him, or have anyone deal with him. She felt for Lailis, seeing she was incapacitated and probably been done terrible things to. She couldn't imagine the extent of Lassen's cruelties.
She still believed that bastard killed his own parents. ]
No, another place, far worse than this tower, and much smaller. I've...been there for a long time. You were there too...but then they...took you.
Dorms
Ishtar said Lassen was dead; he did what he set out to do. But why was he still alive? None of it made any sense.]
You don’t need to know, princess.
[The vampire let go of her arm, having already counted all the scars on it. He bet there were other ones too, that she was hiding under all those clothes. He moved closer to her and went around to her back, pushing her dress aside. More fucking scars.]
So these bastards from the other place did this to you? [Damn. No matter, he could teleport there after she told him where they were.]
I don’t remember going to some experimental facility, Ishtar. I just left your castle and-you already know what happened.
Dorms
They were close, but she was always the one talking. Duzell never revealed anything more than him being the vampire king, and he was the enemy of her great grandfather. ]
It would be nice to know....It still wasn't worth it, even now. I still don't think you had to do it....and I'm sorry, I couldn't protect you.
[ She gripped the fabric of her clothes. She was wearing a blouse, instead of a dress though. That's not something that she would usually be seen in. ]
A couple of them, yeah. One of the doctors stabbed me with his scalpel, because I didn't want to hurt someone.
[ She shrugged, not really feeling the pain anymore. ]
You don't, but I do.
[ She mused, looking off. ] Yeah, I know what happened at home, but it's different here. Time flows differently, and I'm not really who you think I am...
[ She closed her eyes, leaving it at that. She remained quiet after those words were said. How would he feel, to know that she wasn't really the real Ishtar, but a clone of the original? ]
Dorms
[He snorted and shook his head.] Like you need more complications in your life. Your head is gonna explode.
[He wasn’t stupid enough to go at something he had no chance of succeeding at. After listening to Ishtar sing praises about Darres all this time, Duzell knew exactly how she felt about him, how intense her emotions were. They were engaged to be married, thanks to Yujinn’s sneaky plot. Was he going to jump in the middle of this and mess it all up? If he didn’t care a whit about Ishtar’s feelings, maybe, just to get a rise out of them. (Yujinn would so approve.) But he would have to take a risk on something he didn’t know how to even deal with, and he already knew what the outcome would be.]
I don’t need Darres riding my ass.
[He rolled his eyes and pulled the blouse back even more to see where the scalpel scar was. The collar might be choking her at this point.] A whole lot of good that did. [Ishtar developed a pretty high tolerance for pain, after everything her crazy relatives tried to do to her.]
Oh yeah? Then who is that under here?
Dorms
[ She looked at him frowning. ] It won't bother me. It's not like my head can get anymore messed up than it already is, Duzell.
[ She added quietly. It was true, she had been through so much, and it wasn't going to change how she thought, if he told her. ]
Darres can deal with it, like I said. He wouldn't treat you unfairly, or anything like that.
[ She shrugged. It might been a little uncomfortable that he was pulling at her clothes and that caused her to cough a little from the slight choking. ]
.....If I tell you, I'm not the real Ishtar, and that I'm a clone, originally from that place...would you believe me?
[ She looked serious when she stared at him dead in the eyes when he said that. ] I'm not the real one, just an imitation, with her memories, and her personality. I even look like her, but I'm not her....how would you feel about me now?
Dorms
[He rapped his knuckles against her head, knocking on the thick skull covered by all that hair.] Sounds like it.
[He couldn't tell her the truth. Even if she was stuck in some weird experimental dream, she'd snap out of it sooner or later and get back to her regular life. He should have died after casting La Gamme on Lassen. If this was Purgatory, then it just meant he'd die in a little while.
Then again, what did he have to lose by telling her? It wasn't like they could really be together, not with her heart already set on Darres.]
It's not like that, princess. [He muttered with a scowl, still skirting around the truth. He had already died for the woman, but he would balk at telling her the reason for it?] You're gonna marry him. Nothing'll change that.
[Duzell let go of her collar when she asked that weird question. He stared back into her eyes, and moved without telling her anything. He had her pressed down on the bed, with his claws circled around both of her wrists. He stared her for a while longer, then started asking questions.]
How did we meet, Ishtar? What happened to Yujinn? Who's Falan?
Dorms
[ She replied as he did that, making no effort to flinch or feel any pain from it. She got flicked in the forehead a lot, so this was hardly anything. She wanted him to tell her the truth. That was something she always wanted from him, but clearly, he didn't want to tell her. She couldn't force him even if she tried. The vampire king was a proud and secretive guy, he wasn't going to tell some lousy princess what he was thinking. She just shrugged a little.
She hadn't seen Darres in three years....three and half long years. She wondered if he changed at all. She knew that time would not move in their world, but it didn't help her thought process. ]
Yeah, I guess so right, and yo won't be there to help protect me anymore?
[ She mused with a small laugh, a small bitter laugh. ]
I know...I still love him even now, Duzie....but it's different....maybe a little different now....I don't know.
[ She tightened her grip again. Ishtar was used to the strange things he did. He was always doing something strange when he was with her. If it wasn't making fun of her, he was touching her. ]
You were the baby kyarru that bit me. I thought it was sad that you lost your mother, so I took you home and named you Duzell. Yujinn's.....Yujinns...dead...
[ She closed her eyes. ]
Falan is my cousin. She's from Ci Xeneth. She's the sweetest thing...I really miss her.....
Dorms
[He wasn't some emotional or sappy vampire, like some of the others that had been seduced by humans. He would never be the well behaved gentlemen that treated Ishtar like she was special because she was the princess. Hell, she was going to be the queen someday, and his kind wasn't welcome in Pheliosta, to say the least. It was better that the princess got who she wanted, even if Duzell didn't like it.]
You've got all those servants and your husband's the head soldier boy. That isn't enough protection?
[He would have spent the rest of his life protecting her, even after she died long before him. Just not like this. It hadn't been that hard to decide to sacrifice himself to save Ishtar from her cousin, all things considered. He'd reincarnate, and maybe by then, Ishtar and Darres would be dead, and he'd go back to his old ways. He'd forget he ever had this silly little attachment to one insignificant human.
Ishtar would never choose him.]
I know already, Ishtar. You'd do anything for him, just like always.
[Duzell didn't sound bitter or anything; he was just saying the truth. He wasn't be stupid enough to lie to himself.
His brows curved down and he stared at her some more before asking.] If you're a clone, then why do you remember everything?
Dorms
[ She bit her lip, not wanting to think about Yujinn's death at all. His death, it still bothered her, because he was with her in Facility, and they were able to protect and support each other. She learned things about Yujinn that she never did before.
Even if that was true, she wouldn't be able to replace Duzell, just like she couldn't replace Darres. He was someone important to her, someone who had also been at her side...when they were at home, and when she was at Facility. Duzell might have been a cruel person, but he was kind to her, and that meant a lot to the princess. She never got to figure out his feelings for her. She was still confused. ]
They can't replace you...not even Darres can replace you. You're you, you're Duzell, and no one can be Duzell for me.
[ She lowered her eyes. She didn't want to start crying again. If only Ishtar knew the extent of his feelings, or at least understood them. Maybe that way, she wouldn't be stupidly ignorant about them....and that really hurt that she was. ]
...Just as I would do anything for you....or Yujinn right now.
[ They were important to her. Even if she said that before, she didn't mean it to be exclusively for Darres. She would die for Darres, but she could also die for everyone else that she loved and care for.
Ishtar closed her eyes. ] I'm sorry, Duzie...I didn't know.
[ She looked at him, still. ]
Because I'm a clone with her memories. Didn't I tell you that a moment ago?
Dorms
Everyone’s replaceable, Ishtar. Except me, of course. [He was smirking as he said that. He was the great and powerful vampire king, and he wasn’t about to let anyone forget it.] You humans live and die every day. You won’t remember me in your next life. You’ll just get busy anyway. You’re gonna have your kingdom and a bunch of little human brats to eat up all your time. [Ishtar was always trying to do more than she was capable, running around all over her country help every last mongrel that couldn’t do anything for himself. She had a big heart, even Duzell could see that.]
Just do whatever you were gonna do. [Marry Darres and become the queen.]
I heard you, princess. You have her memories and personality and all that. [He frowns, disbelieving, because he hasn’t heard of cloning being the reason for something like this. Where they came from, they didn’t have clones.] How do you know this is true? Did you see another Ishtar? Maybe you’re a reincarnation.
Dorms
[ She didn't know how the future would play out. Would she get over it? Would she forget that he ever did this for her? It was strange, to think about the future already. She was never one to look forward, always in the moment, but right now, she wondered. She also questioned the things that will eventually happen. If there were time lapses, like Hei had said, what would happen if she had to face the real Ishtar, and Darres? She didn't know how she would take it. Lassen was a truly a gifted young man, but he wasn't able to do good for Pheliosta's kingdom, but rather rotting it from the inside out. His deeds, would soil the royal family name, but he clearly didn't care, because of his ambitions, and his goals. He was a man driven by what he wanted to do. There was no room for being a good or a bad guy. It was you do what you want, and it didn't matter if the results were positive or negative, as long as you get what you want.
Ishtar hated that about him, how he was unable to do things the right way, albeit not good or bad, but the right way. ]
I don't mean it like that, and no...no one's replacable...not you, not Yujinn, not Darres, or even the people that I've met. [ It was like saying she could easily replace people like Lavi, or Maka, or even Zero for the matter, and even Gaara. Those people, no matter who they were, had some impact on her. They were not replacable. They may seem the same if they came back without memories, but they clearly weren't the ones she knew. She wasn't going to believe Duzell's claim so easily. ]
I can make time, just like how I've been doing for the past 18 years of my life, Duzie. I've never let them get what they want that easily.
[ She replied shrugging. ]
That's kind of impossible, when I don't really have a place anymore.
[ She shrugged. This conversation was getting too serious. She didn't want to overwhelm him with all of this, but he deserved to know, before anything else. ]
I haven't seen another one, but chances are she might appear her one day, and I know because, they've told us...every single one of us in that place...that we were clones...and not the real thing. Not many people took well to it.... Haha, if it was that easy, I'd take that answer.
Dorms
[It still pissed him off to have fallen into Lassen’s trap. He was pretty smart, for a human. A little surprising, since he was related to Ishtar. He was like her complete opposite. A long time ago, Duzell would have found someone like Lassen useful under his control, but good help was so hard to find. Look at Diaage and what she ended up doing. More like who she ended up doing.
This talk was getting serious. He fixed Ishtar with a look, then fired back in response.] You say that now, princess, but you don’t know for sure. Do you even know if you’ll be reincarnated? You could die tomorrow, and you won’t remember anyone. Humans aren’t like vampires. You don’t live that long. We get stuck with all these damn memories for centuries.
18? [He looked at her more closely, to see what kind of development she’s had in the last three years.] You’re a little taller, I guess. You’ve grown a little here too. [He pokes a finger at her chest without any shame.]
You have friends, idiot. Stay with them. [He waits for a minute for that to sink into her thick skull, then suggests.] You can always come back with me, but I won’t play nice, like your friends.
[He shrugs.] If she shows up, she shows up. What do I care? [He makes a face.] Not like I need two damn headaches to chase around. You’re a handful already, Ishtar.
Dorms 1/3
[ Ishtar knew that better than anyone, how intelligent her short cousin was. He may not look as foreboding as Duzell, or Sharlen, but he certainly met the criteria to be considered a damn monster ten times as bad as Sharlen, or Duzell. She wasn't quite sure what else he was capable, but she was certain that he could do more than pull a couple of strings, and spike people's drinks. ]
His fight was with me. He shouldn't have to involve anyone else. We would have found a way to outsmart him somehow...
[ She was uncertain though. Without Yujinn to guide their plans, she didn't know how else she would approach it. Eventually, she just bit her lip and took what Duzell had to say to her. He was right, after all, he was the vampire king, and even he was having some trouble hamstringing someone like Lassen. Ishtar probably wouldn't last long against her twisted cousin. ] It doesn't matter...if I will know if I'll be reincarnated. I'm not thinking that far ahead, when now is pretty important. Even if I was reincarnated, I'd try to be reincarnated next to the people I love and care for...even if we don't remember each other, we can always start over.
[ She replied sounding rather confident as she said those words. ] I know...it sucks, but at the same time, I'm kind of envious. You guys get to keep your memories no matter what happens, while mortals like us lose them. We become old and die, and we are reborn one way or another, but like you said, we don't carry any previous memories. We're blank slates, empty shells being prepared for a new life...but still, a girl can't help but hope.
Dorms 2/3
[ That might have sparked something from her, as she frowned furrowing her brows at him. ] There are other things that I've learned aside being a bit taller and stuff.
[ Not that Ishtar had much shame either. After all, she spent most of her time talking to Duzell while he was naked. ] If you played nice with me, then you wouldn't be Duzell.
Dorms
Are you sure? If she comes here, and causes problems, wouldn't you want to stop her or help her out. I mean, she's me...well a different me. She might not be as a old, or as understanding.
Dorms
Yeah, right. Your lover boy might have a hard head, but not all the lights are on in there. [Biasness aside, Darres wasn’t smart. He was as dense as a fucking rock, and with the way he chased the princess around all these years, Duzell was surprised he didn’t get himself killed somehow.]
It matters, princess. Don’t kid yourself. [His head tips over a bit, letting his long silver hair create a curtain over his face.] That kind of thinking is what’ll get you killed. You’ve got to think ahead, all the time. Flying by the seat of your pants is only gonna get you so far.
[He smirks.] You don’t have to be jealous, Ishtar. You’re the one that didn’t want me to turn your aunt into a vampire. You can live forever, but you don’t want that. You wanna grow old and die with all your precious humans.
[He has a lot to think about, and he doesn’t always just say what’s on his mind. The opposite, actually. Duzell actually thinks things over before he talks, unlike Ishtar, who doesn’t have any kind of filter over her mouth. He’ll have more to tell her later, but for now, he’s trying to figure out if what she said is true. It’s a pretty fantastic story, hard for anyone to believe.
The vampire snorts at her question.] What’re you expecting from me? You think I can see all your differences in ten minutes? [One long nail pokes her cheek.] You can always show me. [He means everything, from fighting to her body, but Ishtar is prudish about herself.]
That’s what you want, princess? You want me to chase another you around?
[He can’t say how he’d act because it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe he’d help her, maybe not. He’s lenient toward Ishtar, but no one ever said there’d be two of her.]
Aren’t you gonna nag me to death if I didn’t stop her from running headfirst into a wall?
no subject
[ She nodded her head at his words. Ishtar knew that his memory didn't last until hers did. It was another time lapse and this was going to be a problem. It seemed like he didn't seem too bothered by it....death. ]
Darres can be pretty smart if he tried.... [ Then again, he wasn't blessed with knowledge like most kids, so she did agree with Duzell that he wasn't the smartest apple in the bunch, but that still didn't mean that he ahd to say that so harshly. She knew that he wasn't very fond of Darres, minus the fact that he was somewhat a decent swordsman. That's all that she ever recalled from Duzell when he spoke of Darres....one way or another. She tried not to mention her knight, seeing he was far away right now and out of her reach. ]
I know that, but I don't want to think about it right now. I'll come up with something as always. You know how I am.
[ She replied, trying to sound reassuring as she smiled at his words. ] But...you're right. I'll get killed if I didn't think about things throughly this time. I don't want to repeat what I did in the past...again. I don't want anyone to be hurt because of me.
[ The princess nodded her head. ] Yeah, it's better to die a human, anyway. At least, no one can call me a coward, or something....but you know I think about it sometimes, what it would be like to have immortality....I mean you tell me once in a while.
[ Ishtar shrugged at his comment. ] You're the smart one here, Duzell. You tell me.
[ She grinned. It was almost like the old times. She just glanced at him when he poked her cheek. ]
...I'd rather not.
[ She replied nervously laughing. That meant more scars and things that he might not like seeing. She wasn't really fond of showing herself off in that manner, anyway. That was why she kept most of her body clothed...though she did have an interest towards more revealing things at times. ]
You're not obligated to chase me around and I wouldn't hold it against you if you didn't.
[ That would be a problem wouldn't it? ]
Welllll.......maybe...haha.
no subject
Whatever. [Darres was one of the last people he wanted to talk about right now. Even if he wasn’t here, it was like his ghost still hung around in the background.]
You’d better get used to it, Ishtar. [He’s being serious here.] Humans are gonna die. Even vampires can die sometimes. If they’re gonna die for you, you’d better not do anything stupid. You’ll waste their sacrifice. Then they’re just screwed in their next life.
[He walks around a bit, looking through the room for useful things. Why are there so many beds in here? Did this mean other humans were staying in the same room as Ishtar? Who knows what kind of cretins they’d be?]
It can be boring sometimes, but you never have to worry about getting old and decrepit. You can stay young and beautiful forever. You can see what happens to the world. Things change all the time, you know? [He stopped to roll out a crick in his neck.] You don’t wanna get to know any humans, though. They die too fast. They’re only useful if they’re strong enough. [Like Rishas had been.]
Having two of you around would just give me a damned headache all the time. One of you is enough.
no subject
Jeez, no need to be so touchy Duzie.... [ she replied letting herself fall back on the bed. It was comfortable, strangely. Maybe it was because she hadn't been able to speak to Duzell about these things. After all, they always talked about everything, well everything that involved her and her life. There was hardly anything she knew about Duzell other than he was the vampire king and that he fought Phelios at some point in time. He was also a pretty cold and heartless guy if he wanted to be. She also deducted and learned from Gaara that he treated her differently from the rest. Ishtar still questioned what he meant by that, but again this wasn't the time to be asking Duzell these kinds of question. He probably wouldn't be happy to know that she was thinking about asking them. ]
I'm getting there...after all that, I don't think I'll ever sleep quietly without thinking about someone's poor corpse rotting in that place.
[ She mused almost bitterly. Every time she talked about that place, it riled her up. ] When did you become so philosophical? I mean human lives don't mean squat to a vampire king right? I'm sure you guys die too, seeing what happened to your little old cronies.... [ She mused, as she recalled the time he used a holy spell on those vampire servants of his. That was a surprise that he was able to do that. ]
I won't waste anyone's sacrifice. I'm making up for it, one step at a time. I'm not the same person you used to know. I guess, I'm still here, but I have a firmer grasp of what I want to do, and what I will do. I won't let anyone's death be in vain anymore. I'm gonna be queen one day, so it's about high time I start actin' like it, right?
[ She grinned as she said that. As far as she was aware, they were mostly girls. She didn't bother to check around for others. They came and went as she did. ]
Hahaha, it sounds counter productive....like you get all the goods, but you get to watch people die too...it's kind of sad. Don't you ever felt sad about losing anyone, Duzie?
I suppose so...seeing how she'd probably be a lot worse than I am...
[ Grinning because she knew what she used to do to people. She definitely wouldn't mind doing it again, but for right now, she had to be careful where she tread. ]
