At the feast

Characters: Taiki and anyone
Setting: Cafeteria, on the 18th during the feast
Format: Whatever you wish
Summary: Taiki is very ill and spends most the feast curled up under a table. Also it is his birthday but he's lost track of time :(
Warnings:

Taiki had already been unconscious before the monsters were taken care of and everyone passed out. He half woke to the announcement about refreshments. He half sat up from where he was laid, under a table; when he had gotten too week to walk around helping he had tried to get as far out of the way as possible and figured he couldn't trip anyone up under a table.

He was hungry, but he also felt sick. He thought he was probably going to pass out again, but he was really worried about Gyousou, he peered through the sea of peoples legs. He couldn't see Gyousou and he whimpered trying to move.

The blood sickness was too much though, he couldn't move he was too dizzy. He pulled his cloak further around him and curled back up crying softly.

Sonata had managed to pig out pretty good, once the announcement was made and good food was available to be had. She'd polished off two plates of spaghetti and meatballs. And three glasses of soy milk! (There hadn't even been any soy milk, before...) But with her belly full and no one that she recognized in sight, she started to wander. And to look around and be nosy.

"...oh!" Which is how she found Taiki underneath one of the tables. She had been peeking around looking for... well.. anything. A whimpering kid sure was that.

"Hey. Hey! This isn't a place for napping!"

Taiki might have heard shuffling and a presence joining him under the table. Dave looked dead tired, but he brought a plate of food and a cup of water for Taiki. He just placed it near the other without a word.

Should Dave leave? He's not sure, so he just sits there.

Ivan was thankful for the food, and the drink though it certainly didn't make what had happened before any better. No, not at all. He was tired of monsters ruling the tower, and the tower playing cruel jokes on them all. However at least they had food now, and good food at that.

When he saw the other underneath the table however, he frowned a little and slowly moved to kneel down and peek there, giving him a little smile. "You should be coming out to be eating, yes? Ah... It might be helping you feel better...."

The fight to protect the lower floors had been a long one, but thanks to Gouran and the other inhabitants of the tower, Gyousou had made it through without any major injuries. Even so, he had taken time to clean himself of blood as much as he was able before joining the feast, even brushing the blood from Gouran's fur in the way he would have curried his suugu back in Tai. He was aware that this was the least he could do, and even then it wouldn't do much to help Taiki's sickness, but if he could lessen the kirin's discomfort even by a fraction, then he'd do so.

It took him even longer to actually find Taiki, eventually being directed towards the kirin's crumpled form by a concerned fellow inmate. The sight alone made his blood boil and Gouran's hackles lift. Although he had to duck uncomfortably to do so, he crouched under the table, and pulled the cloak-wrapped bundle of kirin out into the open air.

"Kouri, you must try to eat."

And of course the child took it as a criticism when Gyousou was nothing if not bewildered that he was still conscious at all. He didn't respond to the apology, occupied as he was with finding a seat at a table and arranging Taiki and his fabric cocoon beside him.

"Thank you for the loan of Gouran; he saved my life countless times. A fine shirei." It was more meaningless conversation to keep them both conscious, to give Taiki something to focus on. Not removing his arm from around Taiki's body - a flimsy shield at best - he began to pick out fruits from the plates around them, cut them into small pieces, and hold them up to the kirin's mouth. "I hear you were busy yourself... White magic certainly suits you."

At long last, Taiki had drifted into an uneasy, feverish sleep in his arms. Gyousou exhaled slowly, and watched the kirin's light breathing. It was perhaps unkind to wish that he stay asleep for as long as possible, but consciousness could only lead to more pain and sickness for a holy creature in this state.

The table had emptied somewhat in the time he had been occupied, both of refreshments and people, but there were enough of both to content him. Careful not to move him from where he had curled against his robe, the king began to fill his own plate.

To be frank, the Princess of Hyrule wanted nothing more than to curl up herself and fall silently into the relative peace of unconsciousness. Keeping the magical barrier around the cafeteria for the duration of the attack was nothing short of exhausting, and she's sure it will be some time before she's back to her peak magical strength again.

But there are still a few people she wants to check up on before allowing herself to rest, and so she pushes forward, eyes tiredly scanning the crowd for those she knows. She's not exactly close to the kirin boy, but he was once her comrade during one of the administrator's sick games, and so she cannot help but be somewhat concerned when she sees him passed out in a stranger's arms.

The stranger seems to be taking great care with him, though, so she approaches quietly and without wariness. "Will he be all right?"

Even though he had never met her personally, Gyousou at least recognised the Princess as the barrier sage from amidst the chaos. His greeting smile was faint, but sympathetic, holding nothing but admiration for her powerful efforts. He would have risen and helped her to a seat, but Taiki was a greater priority.

As with many interactions, he entered the conversation with the assumption that she was an acquaintance of the kirin's.

"The blood sickness proved too much," he said by way of an answer. "I fear he can never be truly well in a place such as this, but he is both resilient and brave."

"That is all anyone can hope to be, in this place." Her response is soft and admitting, as though speaking a grave truth of the Tower. Resilience, possibly more so than any kind of power or strength, is the best thing a person can have in order to deal with the trials this place presents.

She shifts her gaze from the unconscious boy to the stranger holding him. "My apologies, I should introduce myself. I am Zelda, Princess of Hyrule. Taiki and I were once together in one of the administrator's 'games'."

So it's not hard to see why she might be concerned for him.

"Heeeeeey...." She suddenly felt a bit bad for being so scolding, after actually interacting with the sleepy kid. He wasn't sleepy! He was sick, wasn't he?

In a flash she's down on her knees and under the table with him. "If you're sleepy, or if you're sick, you should go to the infirmary! Here, here! Sonata will help." And she'll do what she can to at least get him sitting up.

"Sup," was all Dave said. His hand twitched, almost reaching up to help steady the cup for Taiki, but saw that he could do it himself. "You look like hell got friendly." Dave isn't really one to talk though.

Gohran's small tail thumped against his arm, the creature playing its part of harmless pet perfectly. The demon's small form always reminded Gyousou of Taiki - unassuming, yet capable of terrible power. Like kirin, like shirei, it seemed. And with his new magic, the kirin was only becoming more powerful. Not, he corrected himself, that it much mattered in a place such as this. A kirin did not belong here, power or no.

"An admirable sentiment." He held out a mug of water next.

He had only heard about these 'games' through Taiki's reluctant admission after the survey, but his expression still tightened momentarily, the force of his anger flaring before it was once again restrained behind dignity. With their mutual exhaustion and the reminder of what had passed, he defaulted to formality.

"It is a pleasure, your Highness. My given name is Gyousou, and I am the Peace-King of Tai. Taiki is the taiho of my country - my minister." He glanced down at the sleeping child, and absently tucked the cloak more neatly around him. "Have you yet eaten?"

"Peace-King...?" She whispers more to herself than anything, suddenly feeling rather nervous. Dealing with other royalty... is still something she needs to get accustomed to. And that child is his minister? Oh, Goddesses...

Swallowing her sudden onset of anxiety, she shakes her head. "Not as of yet, your Majesty. I wished to check in with those that were fighting before doing anything else."

And she'd like to pass out after doing that, in all honesty, but he doesn't really need to know that.

"Then I insist you pause in your patrol to drink something," his expression, whilst friendly, was that of the commander, somebody used to being obeyed not just because of his rank but from the sense of his orders. "Whilst I know little of magic, the tower or these monsters, I am at least experienced in war and the toll it takes on both mortal and immortal."

"Ah..."

Gyousou.

Can she be you when she grows up.

"I suppose." Though she's still stubborn as a mule. "Though there are likely those here who need it more than I."

She can be better.

"The need of others does not negate your own." He poured a cup of water during her protest, and now holds it out with the hand not pinned beneath the sleeping kirin. "You are a leader to these people, I believe, and it will hearten them to see you looking to your own health."

His reasoning is slightly skewed, coming as he does from a world where the health and wellbeing of a ruler directly affects the land and people they rule over, but hey. The worry of her friends and comrades is real, and she can alleviate that by making sure it's only exhaustion she passes out from.
