Dawn of a... New Life?
Characters: Link
Setting: Around the tower. Don't see a prompt? Pick a spot and Link will find a reason to be there.
Format: I'm starting with prose, but whatever floats your boat is fine for threads
Summary: That newvictim person smell is fresh on this boy. As fresh as that ugly white jumpsuit he's still wearing.
Warnings: None. Will update as needed
Room 4-14
He was in the process of carefully sliding the edge of his sword up the side of his right leg to cut the cloth of the jumpsuit he wore. He'd already gotten most of the left leg cut off and cut into strips. He hadn't been able to rip the fabric - such a strange material - but he'd found the razor edge of his sword could slice it open just fine. With an unknown place like this, and none of his clothes anywhere in sight, including belts, Link would have to make something approximating them to carry what few possessions he had left.
There were two sheets of paper that looked like letters on the table next to him. His reading was terrible without the aid of a fairy and he only had a few of the word patterns memorized enough to recognize a few of the words written on them. The first, shorter one, he managed to make out "I saved you" with no issue - so he knew he'd been in trouble of some sort, even if he couldn't remember it - but there were some words he didn't know to recognize by rote between the shorter ones he did: 'world' and 'destroyed' and 'let's' and 'happy'. So while it was nice he'd been saved, it would have been nicer to have someone in the room to tell him what had happened and why he had the weird feeling collar and bodysuit on... and how to more easily get them off.Zippers? What are those?
Dormitories - Around the Stairwell
Now in a jumpsuit that had both legs and the right arm poorly chopped off and the remnants re-purposed as make-shift belts/straps to hold all five of his masks, the Ocarina of Time and his sword's sheath (slung across his back), Link was making his way up the ramp that circled the stairwell. The ramp only seemed to go up while the stairwell went down. Knowing that most dungeons required him to go up to get the keys he needed to go down, Link had decided that up was the smart way to go. If he had to change directions, he could and would. In his left hand was his sword and on his right arm was his shield - what would have been a medium sized one on any grown man, was absurdly large on the boy's 3ft frame. The humor of it marred, perhaps, by the horrified face etched into it's mirrored surface.
Cafeteria - First Meal
Link had managed to make his way to the very bottom of the tower - or as far as he could go, anyway - using the contraption called the 'elevator'. It was food store of some kind and that was great, because he was hungry, but all they had were something called 'nutrition bars' and oatmeal. Oatmeal was what Malon fed Epona as a treat. So it probably wasn't meant for people... which only led to him being very frustrated because the strange people who worked there kept trying to give him oatmeal instead of the nutrition bars. He didn't understand it at all and they wouldn't answer his questions, just repeat themselves when saying he should have oatmeal.
[[Edit: this has been resolved, but anyone who wants to find him in the cafeteria trying to convince the people to give him more oatmeal, is welcome to do so.]]

Confusion erased the glare and he looked up... and up... and up at the man - By the Goddesses, was he ever tall.]
How did you recognize me as the Hero of Time?
no subject
[ This confirms his suspicion. But Ganon walks past the young hero, looking at one of the nutrition bar. Not that he cares for them, but he is making a quite important stock of food. That way when something will happen to the tower, food will be very prized and whoever will have the most food to offer, will have the most power. Simple logic.
He turns back to the Hero. ]
The Hero of Winds has black eyes, unlike any other heroes... Unlike the Hero of Time. This and you are the sole hero to be using masks.
[ Your predecessor in the tower offered him the Mask of Scents so yeah. He didn't appreciate the present, this being said. ]
no subject
Link frowned, watching the man, stepping back when he passes so he's out of the much longer arm's reach. He'd never heard of the Hero of Winds, but more puzzling was Ganondorf's comment about the masks.
Unconsciously, Link's right hand hovered protectively over Majora's Mask.]
How did you know I use masks?
no subject
That's when Ganondorf notices Link protectively covering that mask... Strange, that mask has a very familiar presence. Very familiar to the presence he feels from her. Majora was enemy with the Hero of Time, the Hero of Time used Masks... Could it be that...? Oh, that would explain a lot. He chuckles softly. ]
Your predecessor in the tower used them.
[ It's only half an answer as he keeps looking at Majora's Mask with a slight smile drawing on his lips. Oh, so if that's the connection... He's not sure yet, but that won't be hard to figure out. ]
no subject
[Link twists his body and backs up another few steps, keeping himself between Ganondorf and the mask.]
What are you staring at?
no subject
Is that... Yes of course. Majora... And Termina. It all makes sense now.
[ He laughs. Ah that's just wonderful. The tower can be generous at times, exactly one of the thing he needed, sent to him when he needed it. ]
My dear Majora... You shouldn't have hidden this from me.
[ He shakes and stares back at Link, still amused but more serious looking. ]
You are not the first young Hero of Time to step foot in this tower. You are his second incarnation. It does not matter any more anyway. None of this does any more.
no subject
Second incarnation? He wasn't talking about the older him. Had he been here before and forgotten?
How does he know that name? a voice needled at the back of his mind. He is too familiar with it.
Link glared and pulled his sword, leveling it at Ganondorf. It might not have been the Master Sword, but it could still do some damage if he needed it to.]
How do you know about Majora?
[He wouldn't have told Ganondorf about the Mask even if he'd been there before... would he?]
no subject
Majora is a friend and ally of mine.
[ He chuckles and move to take one of the nutrition bar. ]
Of course, she is not the greatest ally one could hope... Unpredictable and very susceptible to the presence of those like you... But I know now this won't be a problem for long.
no subject
[Majora was a girl? And... knew Ganondorf?]
But... but she can't be!
[She was still stuck in the mask.
...maybe she isn't. Maybe the Happy Mask Salesman lied to you when he said it wasn't purified.]
...she can't be.
no subject
Oh she very much can be boy. You'll probably meet her soon...
[ Can you feel the cruel amusement in his voice? Your both worse enemies happen to be in the tower and they are very much friend, how hard it must be Link. You're gonna have a fun life~ ]
We have learnt a lot from each other. Thanks to you, I have learnt a lot from the Dark World in these hundreds years I spent sealed away. Thanks to you, she probably learnt a lot as well. In the end, I believe we both owe you a lot.
no subject
Stop it! I don't care what you've learned, you're still evil and I will protect people from you. Both of you.
[He was probably lying about Majora. Had to be... had to be.]
no subject
[ He smiles but turns his back to Link, looking at the window. ]
If yes, then maybe your next target after me should be the Royal Family of Hyrule, as they did all these things long before, when I was only your age actually. Maybe you should protect people from them next time.
no subject
I know of Hyrule's bloody history. I saw the evidence of it. But unlike you, they didn't attempt to drain the life of the very world we lived in or slaughter innocents by the handful. You are evil.
no subject
Do you believe my people, the Gerudo, live in a harsh environment by choice? Do you believe that we live in a lifeless desert out of pleasure? You see, that is the Royal Family ingenuity. They do not drain life from the world. Rather, they conquer the land and chase those they despise into lifeless lands. But in the end, the result is very much the same. They prosper, and the vanquished die.
Tell me Hero of Time, what makes my actions Evil, and those of the Royal Family Good? Is the desire to rule over all from a Gerudo evil, but that of an Hylian good? Is killing hundreds in the name of your people evil, whereas killing thousands in the name of the Goddesses good?
Is standing up to fight the Gods who condemned your people to die something you call Evil, whereas waging war in order to expand an already prosper Kingdom something you call Good?
no subject
An NO wars are good. Wars kill innocents! And if you had stopped at taking the kingdom and bringing your people in to live with the Hylians then you wouldn't be evil. But you didn't. You filled the world with monsters to terrorize the land and your people, the Gerudo you claim to care about, were still left in the desert while the rest of Hyrule suffered.
no subject
As for your other point, they were still in the desert, but I provided them with the resource and life I took from Hyrule. I committed a mistake indeed, and I should have brought my people to Hyrule instead.
But none of this matters any more as I am the last of my kind.
no subject
No you're not. They're still alive and well. The only one trapped in the sacred realm was you.
no subject
That's too funny. ]
Did you not notice how different I look? Hero of Time is quite a fitting title for you right now. I come from...
[ he chuckles. ]
You sealed me. But time passed since then. Hundreds years, maybe much more who knows.
no subject
[It wasn't hard to figure that out, really. But hundreds of years? Even with the greatest of magic, how was that possible?]
Did you... really live that long?
[Even if Ganondorf was the King of All Evil, to outlive your own race and everyone you knew... that was really sad.]
no subject
[ His smiles fade at this moment. ]
When I escaped the seal, no Gerudo were left. My kind had disappeared. Yet, Hylians were still very much alive and prospering.
[ Now his tone grows deeper. ]
Do you understand what this means the Hylians and your precious Goddesses have done?
no subject
[The defense was immediate, but just uncertain enough to keep his tone from edging into disgust. He didn't know what had happened. Ganondorf didn't know for sure, either. He'd been sealed the whole time so he couldn't know.]
no subject
Gorons, Kokiri, Zora, they all survived, but my people died out naturally? Your theory is quite amusing. Unfortunately, you lack one capital element that may enlighten your judgement.
[ He walks up to the table. ]
no subject
And what's that?
[The question was cautious, filled with offense at the implications and judgments of the man's words.]
no subject
When I escaped the Dark World, you were not there to sop me. No one was. Hylians showed once more their remarkable courage and went into hiding praying for their gods. In short, I won and I have to say such an easy victory was nearly humiliating.
Why wasn't there an hero such as yourself to stop me, will you ask? This is a question better asked to your friend the Princess Zelda. Everything I'm telling you here, they all know. But they are too ashamed to speak of it.
[ He chuckles. ]
The King of Hyrule and the Goddesses refused to admit defeat. So the King of Hyrule left the fate of Hyrule in the Goddess' hands. Can you guess what the Goddesses did, Hero?
no subject
[Link's caution didn't leave him, but he did move his eyes from Ganondorf to the illusion he'd created. A pang of grief choking his chest for a moment at the sight of Hyrule. He hand't realized how much he would miss it.]
