Oh look the Kirin kid is crying again [attn: Haldir]

It had been days since Taiki had woken up to find the world devoid of light. A gap where Gyousou's presence had been. Just like when his king had first arrived and Taiki had woke up hopeful and happy he was no choaked with the despair that his king was gone.

He didn't have to search the tower to confirm it, but he did so anyways. Searching each floor, each room, asking everyone he dare approach.

But it was true, his king had gone. His things were still there... but he was gone and Taiki didn't know if he would ever come back. What had happened to him? Had he gone to their dead world? Would he be able to cope with seeing it, the destruction of everything he had.

Taiki curled up on his bed, Sanshi's arms around him and Gohran curled up in puppy form at his side. He cried; his tears soaking Sanshi's hair.

Taiki blinked again, reaching out to take Haldir's hand. Even though he worried that Haldir would think him rude he was scared and Haldir was being nice. Haldir was nice, Taiki was glad he shared a room with him.

But his own safety wasn't really his concern, even if no one else came to his aid he would always have Sanshi and Gohran, but Gyousou... Taiki had been to his dead world and knew what it was like. It was in many ways worse this way than when he had believed Gyousou to be dead. At least in death he would feel no sorrow.

But he would be alone, alone in the remains of their dead world. "But who is going to protect Lord Gyousou..."

Lost in thought now that Taiki's words stirred them, Haldir didn't flinch or move away once the kirn grasped his hand. There's nothing he could say that could possibly comfort Taiki at this point, all except meager condolences. His master was unassumingly returned to a world that had been destroyed by forces unknown, probably left for dead. There's absolutely nothing the Elf could say that could shoulder the weight of Taiki's sadness. All of this reminded Haldir greatly of the bond he once shared with that of the Lady of Light.

Try as he might not to think about those he left unwilling left behind, Haldir coudln't help but wonder if everyone he once held dear were gone as well. He always found it odd that no one other than Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf were the only ones present in this realm. Before Idrial' arrival, it had only been them to remain here. The White Wizard had told him before that others have ventured to this realm accidentally, but they have been long forgotten since then.

Silently wondering what kind of cruel fate befallen upon the others, Haldir tried his best to block such morose thoughts and smile. "Worry not, young one. I'm more than certain that Lord Gyousou's return is imminent." Or so he hoped for Taiki's sake.

"You mustn't allow your melancholy to ruin you in his wake."

Taiki hoped so too, after all he had come back after he had went to his world. It did happen. But others had gone away for ever; Eridan, Willow, Ventus... They had been here and then gone, disappeared and Taiki had never seen them again. He didn't know what had happened to them.

"Kirin are always sad when their masters are gone." Taiki murmured, "When they are here we are always hopeful, like their is a bright light in our heart. We might get sad or scared but it is okay... because there is the light. But when we are apart from them the light is gone and even if good things happen we will always be sad deep down."

Tears had started again, at least it would explain to Haldir why Taiki was usually found sat on his kings shoulders.

Haldir couldn't possibly imagine himself as that dependent upon someone else. The kirins carry a heavy burden it would seem. If only the light of their masters could bestow them with happiness, then is it possible that Taiki shall fade if his master never returns? The gloomy thought certainly worried the march warden greatly for there were many who have left this tower to never return. While he would like to believe that Lord Gyousou would return, the truth remains that not even Haldir could predict if he will or not. Much like Ventus and others he had met here in this tower who no longer exist, Gyousou's fate has been left in the hands of an another.

Not willing to voice these thoughts to Taiki, the Elf held his silence once more tears began to fall. "Then I shall do what I can to keep your sorrow at bay, but you mustn't lose hope." Everything he said felt so shallow to him, yet he persisted with such talk in hopes of quelling some of Taiki's sadness.

"You will be reunited with him, little one. Believe it and it will come true."

Taiki wiped his eyes trying to cheer up despite everything. He petted Gohran's fur and felt bad about making Haldir sad as well. He didn't like burdening others with his troubles but here it was so hard not to. When Gyousou had gone and he still felt the lingering blood sickness that never left him and hadn't for almost a year.

"I'll try... I hope he comes back... Sorry... I didn't mean to put all my troubles on you..."

Just when it seemed there would be no way to end Taiki's sorrow, a random thought passed Haldir's mind. While he has done much exploring in the tower as of late, Haldir hadn't explored all of it as of yet. Surely there would be something here stored away within the tower that could at least take Taiki's mind off his misery. Thinking of the farmlands that exist within the upper levels of Animus, the Elf suddenly gained a rather bold idea.

"Taiki." he called the boy's name with earnest. "Dry your tears, young one. We're leaving here."

Taiki blinked and did as he was told drying his tears on his sleeve and standing up. Sanshi and Gohran stood up with him, Sanshi taking his hand. "Where... sorry where are we going?"

A small smile settled on his lips when the child asked that question. Haldir knows he won't be able to erase all of Taiki's pain, but perhaps spending time away from this dark and dreary room will do the kirin some good. "I think you've spent enough time within the confines of this room." He says with a hint of determination in his tone as he rises from the bed.

"A picnic is in order."

Taiki followed Haldir quietly, despite his sadness and the fact he was a Kirin and a minister to a king he was also an eleven year old child and his weeks in bed after the whale attack had made him restless.

The idea of a picnic made him smile. "A picnic? A real picnic?" He practically bounced, "I mean... sorry... That would be nice Haldir."

Legolas had been looking for Haldir, seeking someone to join him in hunting some game for as many people in the tower as they could feed. Maybe even collect what ingredients they could so someone could bake Lembas but that was much more tricky than hunting.

Surprise surprise! He finds both Haldir and Taiki.

"Hail, friends!"

A soft laugh escaped Haldir once he saw how excited Taiki became. He had to wonder if the child ever been on a picnic before, probably not. A kirin's duty is to its lord after all. Taiki's kind probably don't have the luxury to act freely without worrying about the duties they must attend to. "Yes." he answered with a reserved smile. "A real picnic, Taiki."

About to wander off to fetch his things, Haldir paused when the Prince of Mirkwood suddenly barged inside their room. Honestly, sometimes the march warden wonders if Legolas possesses any sense of decorum as of late. Who just bares in without knocking or announcing themselves? He gives Legolas a scolding glance. "Must you always be so energetic, mellonamin?" Haldir muttered as he made his way towards his trunk.

"You could've frightened poor Taiki with your boisterous antics."

Actually Legolas had scared Taiki who had jumped when the door had opened. But he gave a tiny nervous smile and shook his head, not wanting Legolas to get into trouble. "It's okay... sorry... hello Legolas..."

He held onto Sanshi's hand tightly watching Haldir as he went to his trunk, he was a little awkward wondering if he should be doing something instead of just standing there. "Did you need anything Legolas?"

Well... Way to make him feel guilty, Haldir. Thanks. He wasn't expecting both to be in the room right now, okay? In fact, he hadn't been expecting to find anyone in the room at that time of day but he had to check for Haldir.

"My deepest apologies, Taiki. I hadn't intended to frighten anyone. I was actually going to find Haldir and see if he'd join me in going on a hunt. I don't wish to intrude though."

Haldir offers Legolas a incredulous look. "A hunt?" A soft chuckle escapes him. "Haven't you learned from last time that I cannot be defeated easily?" Despite the icy greeting he offered the younger Elf, Haldir couldn't help but think that Legolas has impeccable timing. "I'm afraid I cannot join you today for a hunt. However, you are more than welcomed to join us for a picnic." he offers without realize how ridiculous that may sound coming from someone as stern and aloof as himself.

"I promised my young companion here that we would go on a picnic together."

"A hunt..." Taiki visably paled, "Sorry..." He shuffled his feet, drawing even closer to Sanshi just the idea of them going out to kill scaring him and making him feel sick.

He was glad Haldir said no but felt guilty because he was taking up his time when he could be with his friend. "It's okay Haldir... we can go on a picnic another day if you wish to go with Lord Legolas..."

He secretly hoped Legolas would want to come on the picnic though, but didn't want them to feel obliged to spend time with him, when they had better things to do.

"You barely beat me, Haldir." A smirk from the prince but he quickly shook his head at Taiki. He wasn't going to take Haldir away when he had suggested a picnic for Taiki. And he noticed the paling on the boys face.

"I'll not take Haldir from you today, Taiki." Yeah, the offer did sound strange from Haldir but it was pleasant to hear. It meant he did know how to relax. "I'd hate to disturb you both however."

Now that his young companion was turning a few shades lighter, Haldir felt the need to chance the topic quickly before Taiki grew ill. As much as the Elves enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the marchwarden vowed not to take a single life today for the kirin's behalf. That means that their hunting trip will have to wait until another day. "Barely, but I still won did I not?" A smug grin settled on the older elf's lips as he regarded Legolas with a hint of mirth in his usually icy tone.

"Fear not, Legolas. Your presence would be most welcomed amongst us today." He replied with a smile before glancing down at Taiki. "Isn't that right, young one? We shall need someone to gather to the fruits for our lunch, and I nominate him." Well, it seems that the noble Prince of Mirkwood just got demoted to a servant.

Taiki looked back and forth between the two men nervously, he shook his head; Legolas wouldn't be disturbing them at all. He nodded at Haldir's worlds though he shuffled his feet at the second part.

"I...it's okay... we... can all pick fruit together..." You can't boss royalty around Haldir ~~unless you are Enki~~.

Haldir... You didn't? At least Taiki is on his side but Legolas laughs softly while nodding. He couldn't turn down joining them, especially if it would make Taiki happy.

"I'd be glad to join you and to gather the fruit. I fear our Marchwarden may be to delicate for the task." Take that, Haldir. Nobody one-ups Legolas in a battle of wits. That, and he can never resist teasing Haldir if that chuckle is anything to go by.

Who says he couldn't? Haldir has been bossing Legolas around in this tower ever since he arrived. The march warden can be quite a nuisance at times, but he always means well. Legolas should know this by now even if Haldir sometimes act as if he's the prince and Legolas is the pauper.

"Too delicate?" He gives the younger Elf a scowl. "Hardly. We shall join together in this task then, if only to silent your teasing ways." Still frowning at his younger companion, Haldir then takes Taiki by the hand to lead him away. "Enough talk. Night would soon approach if we linger here any longer. We must away." Quite eager to get this splendid little picnic started, Haldir wastes no time leading them out from the dormitory and towards the expansive halls ahead.

That's not how you treated royalty! Using them for shoulder rides is one thing, bossing them about is another thing entirely. He held onto Haldir's hand and glanced at Legolas nervously. Worried that the two were actually arguing. He didn't want to have caused a problem in their friendship.

"Sorry..." He watched his feet as he walked.

Legolas moved to walk alongside Taiki, opposite Haldir, grinning and chuckling once more at Haldir's expense. Goodness, he hadn't had so much fun until Haldir had arrived, save for the contests he and Gimli had.

"You act as though you don't--" Wait. Looking at Taiki with obvious surprise on his face at the sudden apology. He'll give Haldir a surprised glance and then look back to Taiki.

"Sorry? Whatever do you have to be sorry for, Taiki?"

The march warden also glanced down at Taiki once the boy confessed an apology. "What in the heavens for? You've done nothing wrong." Haldir quickly added with a tinge of concern in his gaze. Has his jesting with Legolas made the young taiho uncomfortable? He should've known better.

"Worry not, mellonamin." Haldir begins with a small smile on his lips. "Despite how much the Prince & I bicker, we are actually good friends." He offers Legolas a slight smirk. "I cannot understand why, but for some reason I'm rather fond that strange Elf over there."

Taiki blinked at them and shuffled his feet. "Oh..." They were still friends? They weren't actually arguing... It was very strange to Taiki... He looked between them again.

"So... it is a game?"

Legolas chuckled softly and shot Haldir a look saying he'd get him back for that 'strange' comment later. There was no way he'd let the older elf beat him.

"Very much like a game, yes. We tease each other to show our affection but also to match wits." He leaned down to Taiki's level though and whispered, knowing full well that Haldir could hear him.

"I sometimes let him win though, since he's getting old."

That snide little comment regarding his age didn't go unnoticed by the marchwarden, who in turn gave Legolas a menacing glance. While this is nothing but a game of wits between them, Haldir couldn't help but be somewhat offended by that one. "Mind yourself, Elfling." He muttered in minor annoyance once the two of them ascended the stairs.

"However, he does speak the truth regarding out affection towards each other." A small smile graced his lips. "Worry not, Taiki. We are good friends."

Taiki gave a tiny smile at Legolas and then looked down again at Haldir's tone, he was reasured though and nodded. After all Enki seemed to tell Lord Shoryu off all the time.

"I'm glad..."

Legolas gives a slight bow of his head towards Haldir, the smallest hint of a grin left on his face but letting it go. surely Haldir knew he didn't really think him old, just older than he was himself.

"There are few I would trust so much as I trust Haldir. Come now though, we seem to be wasting time again."
