A Little Dash of Pink in Your Tower

Time: October 20, evening
Setting: Room 2-07 and beyond

Summary: Euphie arrives at the Tower... in the middle of death and madness. First impressions are awesome, aren't they?
Warnings: None at the moment.

[It had all been for nothing, if the note left at her bed side was to be believed.]

[Euphemia really didn't want to believe it; she didn't want to believe that she had taken on the responsibility she had, led a fight against her father to save Nunnally and the world, only to have it all taken away in the end. Yet still the words on the note stared up at her, unchanging, until she finally crushed it in her hands, fighting against the urge to start shaking. She could not give in to despair and cry anymore, not ever or at least... not right now. She took an oath to her country and her people, and she was going to uphold that even if everything was gone, and only carry herself with the respect that those lost deserved.]

[That is what an Empress of Britannia did, after all.]

[A few minutes later had her walking out of the room she had been assigned in her civilian clothes, thankfully left for her in the trunk at the foot of her bed. If she was stuck in this place, she was going to find out as much as she could first, and hopefully she would find answers as to why she was really present at this unsettling place.]

[So, if you're walking through the dorm level, you might get stopped by a pretty pink haired girl, with a bearing that could only be described as royal.]

Excuse me, could you be so kind as to assist me?

Euphemia paused, a look of surprise mixed with happiness on her face. Suzaku was here; her knight was here...!

...and he was dressed in a cat suit?

Confusion won out over her surprise, but it was clear she was still very much happy to see him.

"Suzaku, I am so glad to see you have survived as well, but..." she began, looking his costume up and down.

Survived... as well... Suzaku is staring... He didn't even notice her confusion at the costume because he was slowly shaking his head.

This couldn't be... Euphie couldn't be in this horrible place... After everything that had happened...

"Euphie..."

Euphie paused as he repeated her name, lips falling into a small frown.

"I have not heard you call me 'Euphie' since you were knighted..." she began. It was improper of her, and she would need to apologize for it later, but she reached out, grasping his hand with one while she reached out and pressed the other against his forehead.

"Are you well, Suzaku?"

Suzaku blinked... because... he had not called her Euphie until he was knighted and she insisted on less formality... But the words were clear enough, he blushed at his impoliteness.

After all he had failed her, he shouldn't be so familiar with her, it wasn't right.

He jumped when she put her hand against his head, trembling as he stared at her. She was real... she was real and here. "I... I apologise princess... it has been a long time..."

She smiled gently, letting out a faint laugh. "I did not say you needed to stop," she chided him softly. "Hearing you use less formality is refreshing."

Euphie paused; he seemed a little warmer than normal, but she was fairly sure that was because his costume was so heavy. After a moment, she removed her hand from his forehead, though she still held onto his other one.

"What do you mean, 'a long time'?" she asked, curious. "We were just on a flight back to Britannia together before..."

...before, if that note was to be believed, the world ended.

Suzaku nodded, but would not change the address, he had always felt uncomfortable being less than formal with her anyways. He felt tears prickling his eyes and willed them away because crying was useless, and the fact he felt like crying was weird because he didn't cry... Not anymore...

Not since...

Wait... Flight back to Britannia? They had never been to Britannia... not together... Unease crept into Suzaku's mind. "I... Princess Euphemia I have been here over a year," and it had been pretty much a year after her death when he had arrived here, but he didn't mention that yet...

Euphie couldn't keep the surprise off of her face. A year...? But he had been by her side through out the entire conflict against her father. He had fought alongside Zero against the undead Knights of Rounds. She had seen him do this; how could he have been here that whole time?

...then again, he had referred to her as a princess...

She raised a hand to her forehead, feeling so confused.

"I do not know what to make of this," she replied honestly. "From the moment we arrived in Japan to the moment we left after the Area System was abolished, you have not left my side unless it was to fight. How could you have been here this entire time?"

Arrived in Japan... they had met in Japan, he had never left Japan while he knew her...

Area System Abolished... Suzaku blinked, realisation crashing down upon him. No...

Or perhaps this was a good thing... He took a breath. "I think I can explain Princess, our captors... they claim we are all from different worlds. That they only managed to rescue one person from each world. They said many of us have the same memories of events because our worlds are almost identical, tiny things making them seperate. So far I have the same memories of Lelouch and Nunnally. But..." Not her...

"However other worlds are very different to each other, there are even people here who meet themselves from other universes where they have experienced different things. It seems that that is the case with us..." And if Euphemia looked carefully at the eyes that were peering sadly into hers she would see that they were green, not the blue of the boy she knew.

...this wasn't her Suzaku. That was really what he was saying.

Euphemia did not know how to feel about that. It was obvious that whatever world he had come from, he still had a strong loyalty to her. She was almost jealous of this other Euphie, as she had managed to get him out of his formal shell. After a moment, she let out a breath, clasping her hands before her.

"...I apologize," she said softly. "I did not know... it was rude of me to assume that you would be the same, after appearing on another world."

"No, there is no need to apologise Princess Euphemia... This place is very strange. It has taken me a year to get used to it." And he had done exactly the same; assumed that Euphemia was the same as the girl he knew...

"I can answer any questions you have..." His voice broke a little and he fell silent.

Euphie smiled sadly. "May I make a request, first?" she asked. "Please, continue to refer to me as Euphie. It has been far too long since the Suzaku I know has used that nickname."

Suzaku blinked, because this wasn't his Euphemia. This was a different person; though it was obvious already she was still royalty and casualness was not something that came easy to him.

But he had been in this tower a long time and so formality was easier to shed than it had been. It wasn't like titles meant anything here anyways. "As you wish Euphie."

He paused, giving her chance to ask questions, he had his own but didn't want to bombard her with them when she had just got here.

Euphemia smiled warmly, grateful to hear that nickname again. She savored the sound for a moment, before she turned back to the issue at hand.

"If our worlds are so different, I would like to know how much so," she began. "Please, tell me the last event you remember."

Suzaku's eyes widened, not sure how to answer when he didn't know just how different her world was. He was silent for a long while before answering. "Me and Lelouch were fighting Schneizel, trying to bring peace."

"Schneizel?"

That... was hard to imagine, and it was difficult to keep the surprise off her face. After all, it was her brother that set in motion the wheels that put her in her current position. Now that she really thought about it, she wasn't sure if she wanted anyone to know about that, especially if it never happened in other worlds...

"Why were you fighting?"

Suzaku nodded, a lot had happened since her death and he had no idea at all what had happened on her own world but even if she had been from his world she would have probably been confused.

"Lelouch is the emperor now, he had a plan to bring peace and I was helping him, Schneizel stood against us."

"Lelouch is...?!"

Okay, she could not keep her surprise back that time. Lelouch... she remembered clearly that black armored monstrosity he had become from the Witch's contract. She was definitely keeping her position a secret for now after hearing that.

"I fear our worlds may be drastically different indeed."

Suzaku nodded, again it was difficult to imagine and Suzaku was trying not to assume things about her world. "I fear they are, perhaps you could tell me a bit about your world... You said I was your knight?"

He wanted to get a full picture before he gave away too much...

"You are, yes," Euphie replied. "Your unit was temporarily reassigned to the Britannian mainland, as a show of good faith to the numbered countries. You saved my life, not knowing who I was, and I... did not wish to tell you. I appreciated your openness and your honesty, despite your situation."

She paused, smiling fondly. "You were so shocked when you found out. You would not stop apologizing, feeling you had been rude to me. I asked you to be my knight then."

Suzaku listened carefully, it was different than what he had experienced but it had similarities. Euphie was very similar to the girl he had known... He didn't know if that made this easier or more difficult.

"We... I mean, the Euphemia from my world and I... we met in Jap... Area 11. She didn't tell me who she was at first either, though it was some time before I became her knight she helped me a lot and sent me to school..."

"It is good to hear that there are some similarities then, however small they may be," Euphie replied, before folding her hands before her. "I... have to ask, however; what did 'I' have to say about you and Lelouch confronting Schneizel?"

Suzaku nodded glad as well, he thought anyways. It was difficult to remember this wasn't the Euphie he knew, yet the next question made him freeze. He looked away not knowing how to answer. Because he had guessed from what she had said that her life had been much less tragic than the Euphemia's own world.

"You didn't know... in my world I failed, you died a year before I was brought here..." He didn't look at her.

Euphemia did not know how to respond to that. She clutched her hands before her tightly, trying to process that. It... would explain his behavior...

"I... I am so sorry..." she murmured softly. "How-- no. No, you do not need to tell me if you do not wish to..."

Suzaku blinked, why was she sorry? He stepped back, not quite sure if he could answer this question. Not wanting to because if this Euphie had been spared death, then she should not be burdened with the knowledge of it. The details anyways, enough to know she had died.

"Zero killed you, I arrived too late to save you." It was only a part lie. Just one more lie...

"And... is 'Zero' Lelouch in your world as well?"

Give her some credit, Suzaku; she's smarter than people give her credit for. You should know this already.
