FOURTH FLOOR

[One of the great hunters of Alternia is crouched behind a couch. Windows are wonderful things, she decided, watching the room behind her in the mirror's reflection. Hidden from the immediate eyes of those behind her, she readies herself for a springing leap and the first person that ventures close to be only slightly more than a smudge of colors in the reflection gets leapt at.

Again and again for anyone within reach.

[She is busy being a chicken about stepping off onto this floor. It's daytime. Daytime and suntime.

[She sits up and crosses her legs] You're one of the pink squishy ones...A lot stronger.

[America grins at the mention of strength even as he straightens his glasses on his face.] Well yeah, I'm pretty strong.

[She is all the amused] Pretty strong! You tossed me. Are you an adult one? Are they all that strong?

Nah, I'm just cool. And I'm not a human, I just look like one. I'm a country. So that's why, too. But I am an adult!

...What's a country? You look human, are there more than one type?

A country's when a whole bunch of humans get together and form a government and stuff. And I represent all of them.

Huh? Nah, I'm not an empire, I'm a democracy!

You don't know? It's only the best kind of government! Everyone's equal and everyone votes on what to do, so everyone gets a say in running everything. Everyone elects a bunch of people who make laws and run the government and stuff.

Yeah! It's way better than an empire where one guy does it. I mean, what if that guy sucks? This way you get to elect who's in charge, and if you don't like him you can kick him out, too.

Well, we had to have a war to get to do what we wanted, but it worked out. Why wouldn't it work there?
