Setting: The graveyard
Format: Starting in commentspam, but I will shift!
Summary: Izanami is a goddess of death. It's only natural she care for the graves that have appeared.
Warnings: Izanami is her own warning.

[A graveyard. Perhaps it's only natural she care for it. She can't serve as the goddess of Yomi here, but she can make sure the graves remain tended. So she's slowly making her rounds today, humming an old song as she dusts off graves and disposes of any dead and withered flowers brought up from the meadow floor. She's easily approachable, and may even seem like a ghost with her pale coloring! Do you dare approach?]

It's as you say. All things die and are forgotten as time goes on. Just as things should be. To cling to the past is to cling to a handful of sand. And what can that do but slowly slip away?

I believe we should talk about Shadows.

I never said they should be forgotten. Again: if we forget our mortality, we forget ourselves.

[She's going to focus on cleaning the graves, though she's quite amused when he mentions the Shadows.]

What of them?

Perhaps you did not say it. But it is how it should be. None but the delusional forget their mortality. Or those who come back from the dead.

That such events rarely need encore performances. And that I hope whoever brought them here might think before deciding such was necessary.

The dead should be respected and remembered, lest we forget our own mortality. Memory is a precious thing, after all.

[She is going to stand and... Lucifer may notice that the hand protruding from her robe is distinctly skeletal. And even more than that, deep crimson. When she speaks, there is possibly slightly more of an echo to her voice than a moment before.]

Is that a threat, Lucifer? Without even questioning my motives?

Memory is a fleeting dream. In truth I understand the sentiment of never forgetting where we had been to make sure we never walk that ground again, but to mourn the dead is pointless. Respect? Perhaps some deserve, and for a time their names will be remembered. But no creature, man or demon or god, will have it's name remembered through eternity.

[Lucifer just cocks her head. Fear? Is something she's only ever felt in YHVH's presence.]

Your motives. Yes, please. I suppose I should ask what your motives might even be, aside from making people question themselves and their identities even further than the administrators of this Tower are making them do.

Understand that I am showing you grace in allowing you to explain. If the Crawling Chaos were still present here, this would not be a conversation, Izanami.

[When she finally turns to Lucifer, she's completely skeletal. Not quite shedding her more human form, but close to it.]

It was an aid. To learn and accept one's true self offers a tremendous strength that even the administrators should fear. I have firsthand experience with the strength that comes, especially from humans, when they accept even the most negative aspects of themselves. I imagine the result is the same for our kind.

[...And then she'll pause, tilting her head slightly.]

...Why, Lucifer. Did you manifest a Shadow? Are you angry that you had to face something you would rather have denied?

It does.

It is unfortunate, then, that the Shadows so rarely accomplish this.

[Lucifer thinks for a moment, then shrugs.]

It was certainly annoying killing him, I will admit.

A shame that you did instead of listening.

[Izanami feels quite smug about this, because it means that you're far more human than you might like to admit. She is going to quite happily go back to her work now.]

As to your threat, Lucifer: what I do with my fog is my own business. It is hardly my fault you manifested a Shadow and then continued to deny it. That is your choice. I simply provide the tools that can grant one greater strength.

I suppose it is.

Merely keep the fact that I offered grace in mind should you choose to pursue it again.

A threat is grace in the same vein that brutality is merciful. But next time, I will be kind enough to warn you and contain my fog to certain floors so you may continue to deny part of yourself.

[She has returned to her human form now, and is humming once more as she tends to graves.]

And in turn I will allow you to preserve your delusion that your actions benefits them and that you may play surrogate mother to them.

I'm glad we could reach an accord.
