[ With the nuclear explosion thing that affected her favourite room, and the language shenanigans going on, Sayaka had little time to actually do some material training. Besides, she was starting to have second thoughts over her rash decision to use that knife out of all the better weapons she could have found. It's not clear why, but she feels this is the only thing she can hold onto right now. Even if it's dirty in her blood, and try as she might, she never managed to scrub it off the blade, like something crusted the redness to it permanently. It's one of the things that still connects her to her world, and it's hard to let it go- despite the macabre aspects of it.

She's in her room, all prepared herself for when Axel comes over. Plain black tank top, shorts, and sneakers, hair tied in a ponytail so they won't get in the way. Now what's left is to actually unglue her eyes from the knife in her hands... ]

The most difficult part would be how to be fast enough to do any stabbing.

Left hand held out in front of you and right hand by your waist, holding the knife in reverse and pointed to the ground. Make sure your legs are spread out and you're on the balls of your feet.

[ Okay, gonna do that right about now! It's a little awkward because she's obviously never used to get into a pose like this, but she manages. ]

[He drops his own stance and steps over to help adjust Maizono's into something that's probably quite a bit more natural. Bending her elbow a little, refocusing her weight into different areas, etc.]

Back to knowledge while you're holding this. Why do you suppose this would be the best stance to have in a situation where you're going to fight with a knife?

Close enough. You also present a smaller profile to hit. And most importantly, your left hand is there to defend or deflect incoming attacks. Use that to your advantage and you can close in easily.

Hm... so, this is the standard knife pose? Is there more of them?

There's quite a few more but we're gonna stick with this one for the time being. Once you get used to it, you can learn other things.

Fair enough. [ She flexes the fingers of her left hand. ] I'll have to get used to this pose after all.

That and it's pretty intimidating. Most people tend to think twice before going after someone who looks like they know what they're doing.

Since we're running on a tighter schedule here, we're going to skip all the discipline stuff normal instructors would have you do. Instead, I want you to throw the knife into the ground so we can start for real.
