Summary: The hermit has to get out *some* time, right? Karkat is just doing his thing. Looking around at new floors.

Floor 19

[ if there is something that Karkat has done in the past, it is observe. he had watched the human kids and made extensive notes about all of them. flaws. actions taken. anything of interest. quirks. stuff like that. Karkat even had written out his opinions of them. he doesn't have that sort of luxury here and his fiction selection has dwindled since the whale incident.

his original intention had been to just find a library. usually he doesn't visit floors outside of the media room and the bare essentials. a research library isn't what he had in mind, but it will suffice. who knows? maybe some of the remaining philosophy and psychology books will give him some answers about questions he's circulating in his think pan lately.

this is how he spends his first few waking hours, huddled with a stack of books at his left and he's mostly thumbing through them. topic surfing. ]



Floor 10

[ don't go out near the ocean. this is common Alternian knowledge. sea dwelling trolls are vicious, as are many beasts that can be found in the depths. Karkat has seen the ocean, sure. but the aquarium is a completely different experience. he's never really seen sea creatures before, so he just kind of stares in wonder, mouth slightly open.

it's a clown fish swimming close that gets his attention. like any kid seeing something for the first time, he's reaching out to poke at it through the water. ]

[ like Karkat knows what is really normal for a human and what isn't. can't really tell a non human that looks human from a human either, really. but his eyes narrow at the intrusion. ashamed to be caught? maybe, but that attitude is making him bristle. ]

Like I'd be so easily fucking caught.

[blackwitch]

[ Hey, at least she isn't surprised by his very not human like looks at all either. Or his attitude, really, nothing about her demeanour seems to change at his response. ]

Oh..? You're that sure of it? [ It's almost a sing-song tone at this point. ] Did you never saw that movie with the sharks? They strike when you last expect it, and then.. crunch!

No. I just saw a movie about killer whales once. That's the extent of my knowledge about sea critters.

Just let this shark thing try. I'll fucking slice it in half.

[blackwitch]

[ Well, she can take care of that. She raises her hand, and suddenly - in a cloud of golden butterflies - there's a staff in it. When she raises it towards the aquarium, a gigantic shark appears among all the other fish. ]

We-ll..? What are you waiting for? Or are your words just a stupid coward's bluff?!

[papshooshing]

Fine. You're on.

[ because here he can use his strife deck. oh beloved sickle. how he misses you. the shark is bigger than him, sure. but it can't be stronger than an ogre. ]

[blackwitch]

[ .. Hoh. That actually impresses her, both the attitude and the fact he's just getting that sickle out all of a sudden - she likes your style, Karkat.

At least the shark is pretty much just an illusion (this time, at least) and will dissolve into golden butterflies when touched, but that only means he exceeded her expectations with that move, she thought he wouldn't even go for it.

But her look goes from surprise back to a grin as the fake shark jumps out of the water, heading for him. ]

[ Karkat's all ready for it too. once the fake shark gets in his range, he swipes at it as fast as he can.

only... the effect is lost when all those butterflies start to flutter about. ]

...That was disappointing.

[blackwitch]

[ She cackles. ]

Congratulatioooooons! [ yes, she's stretching it out on purpose.. ] I guess you're not entirely as boring as you look, after all!

[ in return, have the flattest look can muster. ]

Great, because I oh so love to be like a fucking show pony.

[blackwitch]

Wha-t, don't tell me you don't want to be liked by a witch? [ Well, it's not something anyone would like, Evatrice.. ] Witches can grant all of your wishes, you know..!

Ah huh, I totally believe that one. Tell me another hoofbeast shit of a lie. Come on. I dare you to.

[ witches hold no such power in his universe. 8T ]

[blackwitch]

[ Fiiine. It's just that she feels like it - and since he proved to be entertaining, she isn't moving to kill him as a demonstration or anything. She doubts he'll be as cooperative after, and forcing him would just be too much work. So instead she swings her wand again, and with a burst of yellow butterflies a piece of a cake appears on her hand.

She even takes a bite off it as to prove it's real, without saying any additional word. She figures the magic can do the talking. ]

...Okay. That might be slightly impressive.

[ which means that's a neat trick. and that means he is envious. Karkat can't do anything like that. stupid fancy powers. ]

[blackwitch]

[ At least she seems pretty glad that she's getting recognition here. That's one way to get yourself on Evatrice's good side, either way - in so far she actually has one to begin with, but still.. ]

'Slightly'? It's more impressive than that! An endless witch like me can do just about anything I feel like!

Kyahaha, glad you asked..! An endless witch can kill and revive anything over and over again! It's the ultimate being that can control anyone's fate..!

[ It's actually not that straightforward, but Evatrice both enjoys bragging and doesn't fully realise that herself. Hey, at least she's not giving a demonstration of said power on him yet, he's too interesting for that. ]
