(no subject)

Characters: Legolas ([personal profile] bow_of_the_galadhrim), OPEN
Setting: Floor 32, any time in December
Format: Starting in prose, will switch it up
Summary: Legolas is hunting and gathering for the month and saving pelts to keep himself and others warm
Warnings: Hunting, possible shenanigans

As an elf, Legolas was quite resilient to the dropping temperatures in the tower. He knew there was a chill, knew that people were suffering, and he was careful that each time he killed anything now, while he was hunting, was killed as cleanly as possibly to save any pelts to make into blankets or anything else people might need. Already he had felled a deer and a couple pheasants. The meat would feed a few people for a few days at least. Maybe more if it was all properly managed.

The elf also had a leather bag nearby, he'd crafted it a couple months before, filled with berries and other edible plants. Some things wouldn't be tasty (a lot of things really) but they were edible and would prevent starvation. Especially since most people in the tower abhorred the nutribars. He didn't blame them.

Tohko smiled and lightly chuckled.

"Ah, thank you then. And don't worry, I won't. I'm not the type to just start flinging knives at my friends."

After all, she always tried to look at what she was dealing with before attacking..if she decided to attack at all.

The good thing was that Tohko did like clever jokes, no matter how silly they may have sounded to some. That one managed to get another small chuckle out of her.

"I think quite a few people would be if I was."

Tohko then quietly pulled out her dagger and, trying to avoid branches or being seen, started to follow the deer's footsteps. Since Legolas said he had things to do-but would come back-she knew that she had to kill the deer on her own. After all, that was what she had come here to do, and it was her fault that it had run off in the first place.

Tohko was careful as she walked. She tried to stay as low to the ground as she could, to see the tracks easier and to avoid being seen. It took her a long while, but even though she was cold and rather tired, she had managed to find the deer again. It was eating some grass, it's back to her. Trying her best to stay quiet, Tohko threw her dagger at the deers neck.

This time, she did not step on a large branch, and the deer fell to the ground with a cry of pain. Quickly, Tohko ran to it and pulled out her other dagger. She sighed when she saw how much pain it was in.

"I'm sorry..I'm really sorry about this. And..thank you."

It took her a few lunges, as the deer was still alive and tried to go at her with its antlers when she drew close. However, eventually, she managed to stab it in the skull and kill it. The deed was done. Sighing, both out of relief and exhaustion, Tohko pull her her daggers out of the deers body and started to wonder how one properly skinned a deer.

They were much different from a tiger, after all.

Tohko was debating on where to start cutting it and if she should cut off the head when she heard Legolas clear his throat. She quickly turned around, and saw that it was just Legolas, and not a monster or something else. She calmed down and smiled in return.

"We'll have enough venison. After all, you did find this deer first, and it's my fault it ran off in the first place. We'll split it equally."

Besides, Tohko was just hunting so that she could cook some hamburgers and meat for two of her friends. The deer would be tasteless to her. It was times like these that she was glad she could only taste books. Food shortages didn't affect her that much.

"I do..but I just need enough for two hamburgers and a thick veal. I don't need that much, so you can take the rest to use as you see fit."

After all, it would be better for Legolas to eat and to help his friends eat than to have a deer wasted on a girl who couldn't even taste it. Tohko sighed and nodded.

"If it's not too much trouble..where do you start with skinning? I can't tell where.."

"Ah, thank you. Hopefully everyone will be able to eat a bit better..and thank you very much! That should help me in the future."

Tohko smiled and watched Legolas cut into the deer, burning the information onto her brain. All she had were stories, and while they were good and useful, sometimes they were nothing compared to the real thing. Carefully, Tohko pulled out her knife and slowly started to help, taking care to watch Legolas and do what he did.

After all, doing the act, even if she didn't do much, would help.

Tohko listened to the explanation and burned it all onto her brain as she worked, nodding in various places to show that she was listening and paying attention. Then they came to the part where they had to cut out the meat and remove the innards.

It looked..pretty disgusting. But Tohko had caused some gross things in the Tower, and she had read about worse, so she shook her head at Legolas's question.

"Don't worry, I'll be alright. A little bit of experience might help me the next time I have to hunt for something. It's..rather gross, but I'll be able to manage."

xD; You and me both..you and me both..

Tohko bit her lip and nodded. To be honest, since she had killed a few people in the candy event, seeing the blood and gore didn't bother her much. She didn't like it, but it was tolerable. It was the stench that was revolting, but she wasn't going to back away. She had to get past this, even if she hated it.

"Alright then..don't worry, I won't."

Tohko took in the information Legolas gave her, burning it onto her brain and occasionally asking questions, like whether you could use the bones to make soup. You could use chicken bones, so why not deer bones?
...Not that Tohko would make deer soup in the near future.

Google gives you anwsers to everything!...Even if you never needed to know something..xD;

Tohko nodded and gave a small smile. "Alright then. I wasn't planning on making deer soup either..I was just curious, you see. However, I would probably bury it too."

After all, it would be a little sad to just kill a deer, strip it's carcass, and leave it like that.

That it is!~ xD;

[personal profile] tohko_amano 2012-12-28 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"It usually is." After all, she wouldn't have known about Wilhelm, him, or anything else without asking questions. Tohko listened to Legolas's explanation and helped him bury it. It was hard work, but the deer deserved it. She listened to the prayer and then smiled and nodded..before throwing out her own.

"May you be written into a kinder story next time."

..Pardon the book girl.

Tohko smiled at the pat on her shoulder and shook her head. It felt a little strange to give a prayer now, since she was an agnostic back home..but it wasn't bad.

"Thanks..but I think I can carry it all to the kitchen and start cooking. Thank you though. Will you need help with your portion?"

[personal profile] tohko_amano 2012-12-30 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Tohko nodded.

"Ah, alright then. However, if you change your mind, don't hesitate to rely on me."

She then started to pick up her portion. It was a little heavy and messy, but since she was just dragging it down to the kitchen to clean and cook, it shouldn't have been a huge problem.

Carefully, Tohko carried her meat as she started to walk out of the floor, and down the stairs, not realizing that Legolas was behind her, watching her. It was a long walk, and the meat wasn't easy or that clean to carry, but she kept going, and eventually managed to reach the kitchen.

After all, she had promised Lancer some food..and maybe Alexander, Encoh, and a few other friends could enjoy it if there were extras.
