Summary: Party in the media room. Look at all these stupid kids who have birthdays in December.
Warnings: Teenagers are dumb. Stupid shenanigans.

It wasn't really a proper party set-up. There were no decorations or anything that would signify it were a party. Dave didn't really have supplies or time to make anything and he wasn't really around to even plan anything in the first place.

Jason didn't really make it any easier by giving them only foodbars and water for this month either.

But he did try. He made those shitty paper ringlets to hang and he taped really crappy drawings of balloons to the walls. An attempt was made and he thinks his balloons are pretty fucking awesome anyways. It was a little sad. The list was a lot shorter than he anticipated. He ignored that nagging thought though. He didn't want to recall that a lot of his friends had left while he was gone.

Yeah, pretending that isn't a thing that happened.

Too busy admiring his really shitty attempt at birthday decorations.

Damn, he even made a cake. Ok. It wasn't really a cake. He mashed nutrition bars into a bowl with water and attempted to bake it. That...that didn't actually really come out like he hoped. Mostly, he put it in too long so the outside was completely burn yet the middle was still a really gross mush. No one was probably going to eat it. But it's the thought that counts...

It's a really gross fucking cake.

Obviously though, he should be in charge of birthdays all the time. "Fuck, I'm amazing at this." No, Dave. This is pretty shitty and you know it. You tried though. You tried.

[She can't help the way her mouth twitches at his reaction, and she shrugs a little, inclining her head in a nod.]

It's part of what I do. Besides, I did offer.

[And she'd have hated to disappoint Dave. It didn't matter that his brother hadn't been able to help- she hadn't been able to find the ingredients she'd needed straight off, so improvising with the restaurant had taken a while. Still, she'd been glad to manage, even though she wasn't sure there's be enough cake for everyone.]

And I promise, it's not poisonous in the least.

[Shush, his reaction is totally normal and not amusing in the least.]

[He can't help it, he's just so fucking happy right now over a stupid little cake. He just thought the whole cake thing would be a total bust with the way food's being restricted, so he didn't have much hope. Now Dave can have a real party. Well, everyone can. But mostly his mind's just on Dave.]

I really appreciate it, and I believe you. You did good. If there's ever anything you need, just lemme know, yeah?

[Because you've done enough to earn his respect and gratitude. Now he's got your back.]

[Nah man, that shit's kawaii and you know it.]

[Birthdays are important, especially since no one she knows really has one that they remember.

The extent of his gratitude catches her by surprise- enough that she reacts a little more openly than she normally would, a smile flickering into existence on her face. It disappears a moment later, color rising in her face at the slip, and she shakes her head a little.]

It's fine- I'm glad to do it, really.

[But she appreciates the sentiment, really she does.]

[He's not good at this type of thing, he's really not, and the smile she gives him catches him off guard and makes it all the more awkward. He's gonna try and ignore the awkward feeling, though. He just wants to focus on the gratitude and paying her back- because despite the fact that she says otherwise, he plans to repay her for this some day. It may seem like a little thing to her, but for him it's important. Any little thing that can make this place better for Dave? That's fucking priceless to Bro.

He holds out his hand- but then realizes that a handshake is so... weird in this context. So at the last second, he brings it up and places it on her shoulder. Hooopefully that's okay.]

And that makes it even better. It's nice knowing Dave's got friends here. Anything to make this shithole better. He's lucky to have somebody like you.

[It's okay Bro, Chidori's not exactly a master of Emotions herself. She understands that things like gratitude are hard, especially with people you barely know. She appreciates that he's so willing to make sure she knows he's grateful, so she nods when his hand lands on her shoulder.

Besides, she's got siblings here too, sort-of, and anything that makes them happy is definitely worth it to her.]

He's a good kid, and he doesn't deserve this place- none of them do. So... I figure why not do what I can, right?

[When she speaks, he feels his gratitude grow even further. She has such a good way of looking at it that he's impressed. Hell, he's met more than one person here who has a good way of looking at things. He guesses it's just everyone's coping mechanism after being here a while.]

Yeah... You've got a good way of seeing it. I like that. The way I see it is this place can either make you one bitter son of a bitch, or you remain positive. You're taking the good route.

[The praise leaves her silent for a moment, but she shakes her head after a moment, giving a slight, wry smile.]

I'm not really so kind.

[Really Bro, if you knew how she reacts to people messing with her boys, or the murders she's committed back home for the sake of money and survival...]

But I have never liked the idea of children being experimented on. [Not with her childhood.] It's loathsome and cruel.

[He can't help but chuckle at that.]

Neither am I, but we both have our moments.

[If he knew? He'd find her even more endearing.]

Yeah, you're right. It is. This place is pretty damn disgusting, if you ask me. I mean, I know I'm not the epitome of great parenting, but these guys definitely give me a run for my money...

[Not the reaction she was expecting, but it's a good one nonetheless.]

Honestly, I can't wait for them to mess up. Because when they do, I'll make sure to let them know how much I've learned in the year or so I've been here.

[Chidori's mean streak isn't that big, but it's very, very concentrated. Being on the receiving end of punishment from her is not something anyone should experience.]

[No seriously, the more he talks to her, the more endearing she becomes. If only she were older, she would totally be his type. Instead, he finds himself drawn to her on a much more platonic, almost familial way.]

You ever get in the position to make them pay, you better let me know, alright? They're in for a meeting with the sharp end of my katana.

[To be fair, if he were younger, he'd be hers, if only because of how he handles taking care of Dave alone.]
