Once you party with us

Characters: Dave Strider, the loser Homestucks with birthdays in December, Naminé, and everyone else who's in the Media Room at that time.
Setting: Media Room
Format: Either
Summary: Party in the media room. Look at all these stupid kids who have birthdays in December.
Warnings: Teenagers are dumb. Stupid shenanigans.

It wasn't really a proper party set-up. There were no decorations or anything that would signify it were a party. Dave didn't really have supplies or time to make anything and he wasn't really around to even plan anything in the first place.

Jason didn't really make it any easier by giving them only foodbars and water for this month either.

But he did try. He made those shitty paper ringlets to hang and he taped really crappy drawings of balloons to the walls. An attempt was made and he thinks his balloons are pretty fucking awesome anyways. It was a little sad. The list was a lot shorter than he anticipated. He ignored that nagging thought though. He didn't want to recall that a lot of his friends had left while he was gone.

Yeah, pretending that isn't a thing that happened.

Too busy admiring his really shitty attempt at birthday decorations.

Damn, he even made a cake. Ok. It wasn't really a cake. He mashed nutrition bars into a bowl with water and attempted to bake it. That...that didn't actually really come out like he hoped. Mostly, he put it in too long so the outside was completely burn yet the middle was still a really gross mush. No one was probably going to eat it. But it's the thought that counts...

It's a really gross fucking cake.

Obviously though, he should be in charge of birthdays all the time. "Fuck, I'm amazing at this." No, Dave. This is pretty shitty and you know it. You tried though. You tried.

Yeah, deeefinitely not used to there being two of me at once. [Goingn to take some getting used to, but it'snot altogether a bad thing, he guesses.]

So I guess you must have been here a while too then, huh? If you are a friend of Dave's.

I'm sure it takes a while to adjust. At least you're not alone; there are plenty of other people in the Tower who have been through the same thing. [He gets a smile that she hopes is encouraging.] You'll work it out.

-- Yes, I have. At least, it's been a long time to me. I've been here for about a year and a half. [Longer than she's actually lived anywhere else, ironically enough.]

Nah, it's not just you. A year and a half is definitely a long time. Especially when it's in a place that's not your home. Makes it feel even longer, doesn't it?
lethechained: (er....)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-12-17 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[A nod, though it's slowed slightly by the word 'home', which causes a slight shift in her expression.] ... Sometimes it feels as though I've been here forever. Like-- I've never actually lived anywhere else. I know I have, because I do remember it, [and if anyone would know false memories it would be her, right?] it's just... a feeling. [Her shoulders lift in a suggestion of a shrug.] It may just be because this is the longest I've lived anywhere.
ghostytrainer: (well you see i made myself in a lab.)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2012-12-18 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[John nods.]

I understand.

[At least, he thinks he does. Really, he doesn't know the half of it.]

Moving around a lot might have something to do with it, I don't really know. I lived in the same place for thirteen years, after all. But when I was in Johto, after a while it felt like I hadn't ever lived on Earth at all. Even though I was only there for two years.
lethechained: (Heh.)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-12-18 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[She smiles all the same, glad for what understanding he does have. She keeps so much to herself, and when one has lived a life as complicated as hers, well - she has no illusions about the depth of it, but she can appreciate what understanding there is for her. One of the funny things about being in the Tower is that it's made her recognize that there are more people out there who have things in common with her than she realized.]

I see...! Perhaps it's something that happens to everyone, then. Memories are funny like that. ... What was it like? Living in the same place all of that time and then leaving, I mean. [She's seen some such memories, of course, but it doesn't hurt to find out someone else's thoughts on the matter.]
ghostytrainer: (stranger danger!)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2012-12-21 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
It's...well it's a little jarring at first, to be honest. Even if the moving lands you in a place that's better than the one you left behind. There's still just that initial moment of [His body stiffens, eyes widening slightly.] 'woah. This is not right and I don't think I like it very much.' [Aaand relax.]

But change isn't always a bad thing, it's easy enough to get used to.

[She straightens slightly when he stiffens, eyes reflexively widening, but she realizes soon enough what he's doing and relaxes, herself.]

I know what you mean.

[Especially about it being a better place--]

... Better than I'd like to. [But she manages to keep smiling all the same.] At first I was very frightened by what they said, about the worlds being gone. My worlds... had been in danger of that for some time, so when I heard it had really happened-- well, it made too much sense. You know?
ghostytrainer: (acquiring a taste for freeform jazz.)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2012-12-21 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that makes sense. It was kind of the opposite for me though. Dave probably told you, but the world we come from originally was destroyed before any of us wound up here. I was taken to another world shortly after that, but that place wasn't really in danger of being destroyed or anything so I have a hard time believing their claims, myself.

[He scratches his cheek.]

But I can see why you would. Though that kind of makes me sad to think about.
lethechained: (oh....)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-12-21 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I've... heard some things, yes. [So that's one thing consistent between their universes, it seems. Duly noted.] I'm sorry for what happened to all of you.

[She nods at the last part.] But after I thought about it a little more and talked to a few of the other people around I... decided I wasn't ready to believe it yet, either. Too many things don't add up.
ghostytrainer: (guess how many fucks i give?)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2012-12-22 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs.]

Eh. Shit happens. I'd say it wasn't the end of the world, but it kind of was. What else doesn't add up though?
lethechained: (D:)

[personal profile] lethechained 2012-12-22 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[She manages a small, wry, but apologetic smile at that first part which fades into a thoughtful look at the second. She doesn't sound angry about any of this; she's just explaining herself.]

Well... the difference in placement on the timeline, for example. If our worlds were destroyed when each of us was taken, why are there other people from the same worlds that weren't taken until much later? I suppose you could argue that we're all from slightly different iterations of the same worlds, but... not everyone who's gone back to their own world and come back to tell about it found it destroyed. And all of this-- it's just a little too convenient, isn't it? These people who have control of this Tower who like to perform experiments on us and cause trouble - isn't it strange that they should happen to find such a perfect opportunity for subjects as the end of those subjects' worlds? When have they ever done anything to suggest that they wouldn't just steal us from our own healthy, safe worlds and tell us that they were gone?
