Characters: Dave Strider, the loser Homestucks with birthdays in December, Naminé, and everyone else who's in the Media Room at that time.

Summary: Party in the media room. Look at all these stupid kids who have birthdays in December.
Warnings: Teenagers are dumb. Stupid shenanigans.

It wasn't really a proper party set-up. There were no decorations or anything that would signify it were a party. Dave didn't really have supplies or time to make anything and he wasn't really around to even plan anything in the first place.

Jason didn't really make it any easier by giving them only foodbars and water for this month either.

But he did try. He made those shitty paper ringlets to hang and he taped really crappy drawings of balloons to the walls. An attempt was made and he thinks his balloons are pretty fucking awesome anyways. It was a little sad. The list was a lot shorter than he anticipated. He ignored that nagging thought though. He didn't want to recall that a lot of his friends had left while he was gone.

Yeah, pretending that isn't a thing that happened.

Too busy admiring his really shitty attempt at birthday decorations.

Damn, he even made a cake. Ok. It wasn't really a cake. He mashed nutrition bars into a bowl with water and attempted to bake it. That...that didn't actually really come out like he hoped. Mostly, he put it in too long so the outside was completely burn yet the middle was still a really gross mush. No one was probably going to eat it. But it's the thought that counts...

It's a really gross fucking cake.

Obviously though, he should be in charge of birthdays all the time. "Fuck, I'm amazing at this." No, Dave. This is pretty shitty and you know it. You tried though. You tried.

[Well that's awkward. He's already made Rose eat a piece. He really hopes that doesn't come back to bite him in the ass later.]

Well that's pretty bullshit if you ask me. As if they don't screw with people enough, they go and possibly poison the only food they give us? And on somebody's birthday, too. Bastards.

Of course it is- they're horrible people, but Jason more than the others.

[She frowns a little and glances at the cake again.]

You'll come to find that if there's a way to ruin something, they will manage it.

[He just. lets out a sigh.]

Well, whatever. I guess the damn thing can just sit there looking... pretty.

[Ugly.]

[Reaching out to kind of... awkwardly pat his arm.

She understands Bro, she really does.]

I suppose it will. If nothing else, I'll try a piece myself later. It wouldn't do to have Dave feel badly that no one's eating it.

[That actually makes him feel better, and he perks up.]

That'd be great. Honestly, I've been trying to get people to eat it for that reason. If you get sick over it, though... Well, feel free to punch me in the face, since I'm encouraging you. I'll probably eat a piece too. We can die together or something.

[He's trying to lighten the mood and sound humorous, and he just gives her a smile.] It'd be a heroic and just death, dying in the service of Dave's feelings.

[She inclines her head at the offer- honestly, it sounds like something she might say for Ken's sake.]

I'm afraid I can't punch too hard, so I hope you're alright with the blunt side of an axe. Though if we both die, I suppose that will be enough...

[She raises a hand to her mouth to muffle a little breath of laughter, shaking her head.]

It's a better death than most.

An axe, eh? Sounds a lot better than a fist. I didn't really peg you as the type to use weapons. Looks like I'm wrong though. [A small pause.] You ever use a sword?

It's a chain axe. [She offers that up as if it'll be helpful- and technically it's two chain axes, but whatever.] No swords- that's more Minato-kun's area. I just set things on fire a lot.

Not sure I've ever seen one of those. And I guess it doesn't really matter if you use swords or not, really, considering what I'm about to offer. I figure with the way this place likes to throw shit at people, it'd be a good idea if our fighting skills don't go to shit. So, what d'you say to some training together one of these days? I ain't ever fought against a chain axe before. I could learn a thing or two from you.

[She certainly hadn't been expecting that, and Chidori blinks a second before canting her head at him, considering.]

While I certainly wouldn't mind- I'm afraid I have to warn you I'm not all that strong... [But she is fast, even if, perhaps, not as fast as a Strider.] And that I do tend to fall back on Medea when physical abilities may not suffice.

[She might not mind dying, but her survival instincts are stronger than most.]

[Expect the unexpected, Chidori.]

Well then, I'm pretty sure I could help you with that, too. It'd beneficial for the both of us. I don't think I'd mind fighting against Medea, too? Whatever helps me improve. There's a whole lot of shit here I've never fought against, so if I can prepare for anything then that's good.

[Fighting is never what people ask her for, she has a right to be a little startled.]

I'll warn you now, then- there will be a lot of fire if Medea gets involved... as well as what is more or less known as an 'instant-kill' ability, according to Jin. [Mudo skills for the win.] However, I'll refrain from using those if I can, but Medea is not always... cooperative.

But if you're sure- then I will do my best not to disappoint.

[This is true, and maybe he shouldn't have sprung it on her like that. But, it came up...]

Believe me, if I couldn't handle the heat then I wouldn't ask for access to the kitchen.

[The instant kill ability leaves him feeling vaguely nervous, but... Well, he'd rather die training than die because of the tower. It makes him less nervous, knowing he'll actually recover from it. Besides, she might not end up using it, so there's that.]

I look forward to it. Any time you wanna have a go at it, you just let me know. I'm sure that you, me and Medea will become the best of friends.

[Chidori doesn't really care one way or another about dying herself- but she doesn't like killing anyone else in the tower unless she has to.]

Just come find me whenever you want- I'm usually in the workshop sewing, or down in the kitchen, cooking.

[Sewing, she says? Well isn't she just full of surprises.]

You sew? So do I. Look at all this shit we have in common. Sewing, protecting the people we love, fighting. You'd make a good Strider.

[She blinks up at him in honest, wide-eyed surprise and then cracks the closest thing to a smile she gives anyone outside of Strega- an odd little half-smirk, though it doesn't look as insincere as it could.]

I don't think I'm quite sarcastic enough to qualify-- but I'll take the compliment, I suppose.

[The surprise amuses him. Yeah, you wouldn't expect a man like him to sew, would you?]

I dunno, I think your other qualities would make up for it.

[It's not so much that as anyone besides Strega mentioning anything about family to her. It's new.]

I'll have to take your word for it. But if you need any fabric to make something, something can usually be found in the workshop.
