Summary: Mana's first day at the tower

Cafeteria
[ Mana is sitting at a table but herself, legs dangling off a chair due to her short height. There’s a bowl of oatmeal in front of her and she doesn’t look that happy about it. Normally she wouldn’t complain about food since it was rude but being kidnapped then given oatmeal was cause to complain. ]

Floor 3 – Library
[ After her nasty oatmeal eating adventure Mana decided to head up to the library since even if there wasn’t a home to go back to there were still books. That’s all she needed to entertain herself until something fixed all of this. ]

Fantasy, mystery or do I want something based in fact?

[Tohko always hid in a small corner of the library when she decided to eat there. It was small, but no one ever came back there, so she was always guaranteed some peace and quiet while she ate and read. However, today, as she stumbled out of her corner, shivering-even though she was wearing her cloak and cape-she was horrified. Stories..she couldn't taste them. None of them.

They were as tasteless as a piece of bread. She had tried to swallow down different stories, just to see whether or not she was just having trouble swallowing down other flavors, and when she found that everything tasted terrible, she tried to eat a large-print book, hoping that it was just her eyesight that was messing with her. Even with a large-print book, she couldn't taste it. The wonderful, beautiful meanings and exploits..she couldn't taste them.

So, trying not to break down and cry right there and then, Tohko started to stumble out of the library, trying not to fall down, due to her bad eyesight and sneezing occasionally. She was running a small fever, but that was fine. She could cope. However, while walking by, she overheard a young lady puzzling over the shelves. Even though she felt terrible, she couldn't just leave someone who needed help alone. So, she approached her.]

I..would suggest fantasy. However, if you want something in a different genre, I can help you find it.

Fantasy is fine, I really just want something to keep me busy for a little bit. Ah well it might be longer than that since they told me that where I'm from is no longer there.

[ But she believes that her mother or someone else will come within due time to help her. Since that was always the case when anything happened to her back home. ]

[While Tohko's hearing was getting worse, she was able to hear the girl. Despite what had she had just discovered, she managed a weak smile.]

Ah, alright then. I'll go grab some fantasy book for you then..and don't worry about your world. It's not destroyed. There are several people here who wouldn't be able to exist if their worlds were destroyed, so you don't have to worry. The Administrators are lying.

[Tohko then wandered off for a little while before coming back to the girl with ten fantasy books in her hands.] Here you are!

Thank you for getting those books for me. [ Mana gave her a big smile as she started to grab the stack of books from her. ]

That's quite a lie to be telling people, their parents must have forgotten to tell them that lying is a terrible thing to do.

[Tohko returned the smiled.] Oh, you're welcome! It's no trouble at all!

And it is a rather big lie. However, sadly, some people don't take to the advice that their parents give them..assuming that the Administrators heard that piece of advice when they were little.

I would think that they're humans just like the rest of us at least? It takes a lot of skill to be able to lie to people like that.

Well, they are pretty powerful. After all, they did manage to drag all these people here to the Tower.

I'm guessing they have some sort of power that lets them do that. It's very interesting, being able to do all that I want to know how they're doing all this.

It's either some sort of power or a high level of technology. However, it is interesting that they're able to do this. I'd like to know exactly how myself.

Do you know if there's a way to talk to them or do you just have to wait till something happens?

You're usually only able to talk with them if they appear on the networks. You can't run up to them. They'll come to you.

[Even a hot shower hadn't shifted the feeling that someone had attacked the back of his throat with sandpaper. In fact, he still felt warm from it, even though the damp left at the ends of his long silver hair was starting to chill considerably due to the frigid climate of the Tower that was getting worse almost daily. Sometimes he shivered as well. He shouldn't shiver, it made especially no sense feeling warm like he did.

Sephiroth's nose however, was like a tap that someone just hadn't turned off properly. His patience with it had worn thin within the first hour of it, constant rubbing at his nose with the same chunk of toilet tissue he'd taken with him from the bathroom.

He stormed into the Cafeteria and headed in a bee-line for the kitchen - desperate to find something to soak up the watery substance that kept threatening to drip down from his nose. Disgusting.]

[ Mana had noticed Sephiroth enter the cafeteria and was wondering why he was running for the most part. Since normally people don't go bursting in to places like that. ]

What's the rush for?

[He paused for just a moment as Mana was pretty much positioned by where he needed to walk through; and she'd obviously spoken to him.

Again he rubbed the over-used tissue scrunched up in his hand across the end of his nose. He forcibly sniffed before speaking, not wanting to speak to anyone with his nose wet like this.]

Tissue. Napkin. Anything. Sniff

[The two second reprieve from the nose running was over. Sephiroth growled with frustration; which only served to irritate his sore throat so it ended as a short-sharp moan instead. He then abruptly turned and entered the kitchen, his anger at this whole thing just making him more hot and irritable.

He could be heard, not being quiet at all in his frantic pulling open of drawers until he found a stack of napkins. Taking the whole stack out of the drawer and placing them on the side, Sephiroth didn't even leave the kitchen before attempting to clear his head of this never ending wet substance. A series of deep throaty, blowing nose noises followed.]

[ Someone with a runny nose, check, coughing and sneezing, check. Clearly it was all the signs of a cold which wasn't terrible but bed rest was needed at the very least. ]

If you're sick shouldn't you go back to your room and sleep? Running around won't help you have to stay put and rest.

[He'd finally moved from inside the kitchen and lent on the edge of table nearby, trying to clear the gunk from the end of his nose with a napkin. The rest of the packet in his other hand.

It Just. Kept. Coming. He shouldn't be getting sick from the flu of all things.]

I shouldn't be sick like this, it can't last long though. [Said more to himself rather than anyone who might be listening or close enough to hear.]

[Why his cells hadn't already eradicated the virus before it started showing symptoms, Sephiroth didn't know and he wasn't about to drop his pride and go and ask the person who would have an idea either. He'd just have to deal with it.]

I might just do that. [A nod of acknowledgment to Mana before he headed back towards the lift]

Make sure you have plenty of blankets and a bottle of water with you. Staying hydrated is vital when you're sick.

[He can't remember when and where he's heard that advise before, but it's fairly common knowledge that Sephiroth seems to know already. Not that it's been important knowledge at all until now.

Being even more anti-social today than usual was no excuse for poor manners though. He nods again in return before heading out of sight.]

[ Hey, new roommate. Guess who stalked you all the way here. Yup, this girl here - at least she looks more normal when she's just wearing her school uniform like now. But she needs to know what her roommates are like, okay, that means she can find the best ways to torment them. So she just grins as she sits down on the other side of the table so she can stare at Mana. ]

Not hungry..?

It's not necessarily that, it's just a little odd to be given oatmeal after being taken away from your home.

Wha-t, didn't you parents teach you to be grateful? They could've been feeding you way worse things!

Mother and Papa have taught me to be grateful for the things you are given. I didn't mean to phrase it like that, I just don't know what the norm around here is for this sort of thing.

This is just what you get the first time, after that you can get other things. [ For once she's being helpful? Just imagine that. It's not going to last long though, it never is. ]

But isn't that something you could've easily learned by yourself?

[ Mana gives Eva a small nod]

It is something I could have figured out for myself, it might have been quicker to just eat first and ask questions later.

If it's something you can learn by yourself, then just learn it by yourself instead of asking people for help. People who don't get that should just give up and die for their uselessness!

Telling someone to go die is a little overboard.... There is the natural cycle of things but everyone has a purpose in life.

Ah, you're still way too naive..! [ she giggles. ] Have you never heard of 'survival of the fittest' before? It's just like that! Weak or useless people have no need to live, riiiight?

Survival of the fittest, those who are strong will stay alive and pass on their traits to their off spring, while the weak will die killing off the traits that are unneeded.

It's a standard practice in the animal kingdom, but applying it to humans without changing a few things isn't how it should be done.

It works just fine! After all, humans are just like animals, we've just grown a little more than most of them! [ and some of them are more animal-like than others.. ]

There's problems like overpopulation in some places, that could easily be solved with something like this! Kyahaha, it might even be fun..!

[Rosa walks into the library. For some reason, she can't shake the feeling someone might be following and watching her. She shakes her head, trying to dismiss the thought. After all, she's fairly sure there's no one behind her.]

[She turns at the girl's voice.]

Are you trying to look for a good book?

[ Mana nods at the question ] Or anything that would be interesting to read. I'm not very picky about it.

I don't think we have anything other than books here.

[This child looked to be Maria's age, but she was obviously very different from Rosa's daughter. Mature, intelligent, normal...]

Have you found out anything about the organization of this library?

I've just been looking around I haven't noted how it's organized yet. But if it's like any public library is should follow the same basic set up everyone uses.

So you mean by the names of the authors? Have you found any classic works in here?

Yes, names of authors or by subject matter. So far I haven't found something about the subject I'm looking for.

What sort of subject? You mentioned three genres. Would any of them do?

You won't be able to stomach anything else if you don't eat that first.

That seems like an awful thing to do to someone who just got here.

I think it might be necessary. *He forgot to ask Dax that last time! How does he keep doing that?* We aren't in our own worlds, so this might adjust our bodies to be able to eat the food here.

That makes the most sense, if you aren't adjusted to something you might get very sick or worse...

Of course. Our bodies are foreign to this world, foreign enough to need these collars to live here. Why not the same for its food as its air?

So it's like when a virus or other foreign material enters a body and they send out antibodies and other things to try and take it out. You have to adjust in order to stay alive?

I...don't follow the details, but it sounds like you know what you're saying, so you're likely right.

It's not very good to just follow what someone says because you think they sound right you know. [ Mana might be a smart 10 year old but she's not right all the time. ]

I'm from...likely long ago, compared to you. "Virus" and "antibodies" aren't words familiar to me.
