If I can no longer feel a thing..

Characters: Tohko Amano and anyone who wanders by.
Setting: Dorm Room 1-09.
Format: Starting in prose, but I'll match you!
Summary: Tohko wakes up to find that she's lost her flu symptoms..and her ability to feel things.
Warnings: None right now.

When Tohko woke up that morning, if she hadn't know that she had fallen asleep in her own bed last night, she would have worried about where she was. She couldn't feel the bed beneath her, the freezing cold, and she couldn't tell if she was still running a fever or not. She couldn't feel a thing, and since she couldn't see anything either, she was afraid to leave her bed and move about. She could hear things..but that was about it. She couldn't use her crutch anymore, and it wasn't like she would be able to tell where walls were. Scared and sad, due to being cut off from everything she liked, Tohko began to cry..not that she could feel the tears. She could only hear her sobs. Out of desperation, she cried out.

"Please, is anyone there? If you can hear me..please, talk to me! I..I need your help."

[Shiki was half tempted to ignore the cry for help. After all, it wasn't his business and he didn't need to get involved. He wasn't a hero and never planned on being one either. But, hnn, he recognized that voice and knew it would kill his conscience to ignore it too. So he decided to answer back, not willing to walk into the room in case it was some kind of trap.]

I can hear you. What do you need?

[While her hearing was still shoddy, Tohko could make out the voice, and recognized it as someone she knew. She rubbed her eyes as she spoke, but a few tears still kept falling, now due to relief that someone had heard and responded.]

Thank goodness..please, come into the room and help me get up. I can't see or feel anything..

[He sighed, thankful it wasn't worse than that. He carefully made his way into the room but didn't feel any danger so each step was a little more confident. Shortly, he was kneeling by her bed.]

You just need help getting up? I suppose being stuck here would be scary.

[It was hard to know whether she was actually rubbing her eyes or the air, since she couldn't feel anything. She hoped she was. She didn't want to let this boy see her cry.]

Getting up..and if the door isn't open, it would be nice if you could get me onto the stairs. Being stuck here isn't scary..but not being able to see, feel, or taste is.

[She sighed.]

I don't think you should be left alone at all. If you can't feel or see, you'll never have any idea what you're doing. But give me a moment.

[He needed to see to help, that much was obvious. Since she couldn't see, he didn't have much in the way of reservations. With a rustle, he undid the bandages around his eyes and stuffed them in his pocket.]

Alright, let's get you up.

Maybe not..but if I can still hear things, I might be able to get around..maybe.

[Tohko heard him take off his bandages and sighed. It would have been nice to see what his eyes looked like. However, she nodded her head-or at least, she thought she did. Not being able to feel was annoying.]

Alright then..thank you. And I'm sorry about all this. I'll have to pay you back later.

[Tohko held out her arms toward where she heard his voice was coming from.]

You've already helped me so it's only fair.

[He took care to be careful, knowing that if he was hurting her, she probably wouldn't know. So he put one of her arms around his shoulder so he could bear some of her weight if she had trouble standing, and pulled her up to her feet.]

There we go. Think you can handle this?

I suppose..but I enjoy helping people, so I don't really think you owe me much. But again, thank you.

[Tohko, could hear that she was being lifted and could hear that he was putting his arm on her shoulder, but she couldn't feel any of it. She thought she was out of bed and standing, but since she couldn't see or feel anything, she could only rely on Shiki's words and her ears. She tried to remain standing, if she was..but since she couldn't feel anything, she wasn't sure if that worked.]

Thank you..I think I've got this.

If I use the same excuse, then I hope you won't mind.

[He slowly lets go of her, just to make sure she isn't going to suddenly collapse.]

Alright, I'll leave the walking to you.

[Tohko tried to smile and shake her head..but it was hard to tell if she was.]

Oh, no, I won't mind. Thank you.

[Tohko keeps forcing herself to stand. She hopes that she is, since she can't really tell, but since she can hear Shiki let go of her and not hear a body crashing to the floor, she thinks she's still standing. Carefully, she tried to walk by using her memory and remembering where the beds and door were. She stopped in front of the door.]

Is it open?

Yeah, it's open.

[He didn't close it behind him. But he did stay with her, to make sure she didn't stumble into something.]

Ah, alright then! Thank you..

[Tohko tried to step forward and, using her memory, walk down the dorm hallway. It was hard to tell whether she was or not, since she couldn't feel it, but she tried to make her footsteps loud enough so that she could hear them.]

You don't have to worry about being cautious. I'll make sure you won't hit anything. Where do you want to go?

Ah, thank you. That's pretty kind of you. Let's see..I should eat something, even if I can't taste it as I am now. It would be terrible if I died of starvation and not of a monster. And them maybe I could find an audiobook in the library and find something to listen to it. After that..I'm not sure where I should go.

It would be terrible if you died in any fashion. But we'll start at the cafeteria and think about the next step there.

[Tohko chuckled at that.]

That would be pretty terrible..but alright then. I can munch on something while we plan.

[Tohko kept walking down the hallway-and fell when she tried to keep walking normally when she reached the stairs.]

[He reached out and grabbed her abnormally quick. That's what being super fast and having quick reflexes will do for you.]

Careful. You should probably hold onto me while we use the stairs.

[She could hear that she was about to fall and that Shiki had grabbed her and pulled her back up, but she didn't feel any of it.]

Ah, thank you. That's probably the smartest thing to do..but you'll have to grab my hand. I can't feel where yours is.

It's fine. Just trust me, even if you haven't known me long.

[He grabs her hand and, just to be sure, keeps his other on one of her shoulders.]

Just take it one step at a time.

Oh, don't worry! I trust you. You seem like a pretty nice guy..and don't worry, I will.

[Carefully, Tohko lifts a foot and taps the side of it hard onto the step. Hearing the smack, she steps onto it and keeps going slowly up the steps like that.]

Thanks...

[They slowly make their way up. Once they get to the level they need to be, Shiki tries to guide her out to the Cafeteria.]

Almost there.

[Tohko lets Shiki guide her to the cafeteria, straining her ears and using her memory to try and know where everything is.]

Alright then..

Seiko has her head against the door, listening in. Did she hear that voice right? It's been awfully quiet since she heard that voice, but hse is definite that she heard it come from here!

Seiko pushes off of the door and roughly hits it with a clenched fist.

"Hello??" She cries. "Hello - are you in there? Please answer me!"

It's hard to get used to, isn't it?

When you're in a dangerous situation, you learn how to pick up these skills quickly.

It is a little difficult..especially since my ears aren't working well either. But I'm sure that I'll get used to it soon..hopefully my ears won't go as well. I don't know what I'll do then.

..And it is necessary to pick up skills like this in dangerous places. Otherwise, you'll die.

[She sighed.]
