Summary: Nesir recovers from December and spends some time in the workshop

Nesir went to the workshop for quite a practical reason, since recieving her poison kit as some kind of twisted reward she had a job to do. The cloak she had been given by Chidori, which she had to admit had probably saved her in the coldest days of December, needed modified, nothing big just a few hidden pockets like what she had in the sleeves of her uniform. It only took about an hour and then her cloak was back on, because even though the heating was back on it was still Winter and Nesir liked being warm.

She was about to leave when she was drawn to the wood and the tools, not the strange looking tools that worked on their own, just the basic tools that Ral had taught her to use. It had been a long time since she had carved, since before she lost her fingers at least but she had nothing better to do and it had always been something that helped calm her.

And in this place she needed all the calm she could get. She sat back down after gathering what she needed and started work on the lump of wood.

Anyone who knew Nesir well would not be blamed for assuming she was making something practical, a weapon of some kind. But as it started to take shape it looked more like a flower, rough work, it was hard when her dominant hand was damaged and she had never been good at carving in the first place despite Ral's teaching.

She was lost in work and for a moment, if you really didn't know her, she looked almost innocent.

So technically since we do be from different worlds we do all be aliens to each other? [Is this what she meant, though most people in the tower did look like Nesir there were some like her roommate Kanaya who did not.]

[terreifying]

"You could definitely say that!"

Though, there might be technicalities with everyone being from Earth and all.

[culbutiri]

Nesir nodded and filed that away. "That do be very interesting, I did no be knowing such things."

[terreifying]

"Let me guess. They don't teach that in school in your world."

A pause.

"And they don't teach carving in school in my world. At least, not as something required."

[culbutiri]

"We do no be having these schools in my world." Tohko had told her about them though, places you went and learned all sorts of things and then afterwards decided what you wanted to do with your life. It seemed like a lot of a waste of time to Nesir.

"I did be being taught in a temple though and they did no be teaching anything about different planets or these aliens there."

[terreifying]

"A temple? To a god or some sort? I guess they don't want you learning science there since you can use science to disprove gods."

[culbutiri]

"There do be six gods, though only five do be followed in the temple. The other do be an evil god and must be opposed."

Science to disprove gods? Why would you disprove gods? How would you disprove gods? "What do you be meaning by that?"

[terreifying]

"Wow, that sounds interesting. And you know how stories say gods made humans and the world? Well, it turns out that Earth formed out of space dust over a long, long time and humans evolved from other animals. That means God didn't directly 'make' us."

[culbutiri]

"Of course they did no be." Nesir blinked at her, "The gods did not make the world, they did be finding it. Why would they be making a world when they could just be finding one and ruling it?"

They wouldn't have been able to work together long enough to create anything.

[terreifying]

Rei blinks in surprise.

"So is that how your religion works? Well, I guess that's a bit more like what happened in my world than what our current religions say."

[culbutiri]

"That is how it do be, I have no been meeting the gods but those with magic can sometimes be conversing with them. Or at least with the god that did be granting them their power."

She blinked, "Why what do people be saying? That the world did be made by the gods?"

[terreifying]

"Oh, so you're from a world with more magic than science."

She nods.

"Yep. People say gods made the world. It's more like they gave everything a small nudge along the way, though. Mostly, everything still came about naturally."

[culbutiri]

"Yes there do be a lot of magic, it do be revered." She had learned enough to know that wasn't the case everywhere. "I do no be knowing really what you do be meaning by science, science do be done with magic where I do be from."

[terreifying]

"That sounds really cool. Mommy always said that sufficiently advanced science is magic, so it makes sense that it works the other way around too."

She looks proud for having reasoned that out.

[culbutiri]

"It sounds like Mommy do be right then. Do she be a... friend of yours?" It sounded like a name anyways and Rei didn't seem to mind the questions. "There probably do no be much difference."

[terreifying]

"She's my mother."

Rei cocks her head.

"Don't you call your mother Mommy?"

[culbutiri]

Inwardly Nesir winced and berated herself for her mistake. "No, I did be calling her mama." She tried to sound casual. That's what she had heard around her anyways, she hadn't heard 'mommy' used before.

But she should have guessed from the context, it sounded enough like 'mum' which she had heard people refer to their mothers as in the temple.

[terreifying]

"Oh, that's what Asuka calls her Mommy. I guess it just depends on the person."

Rei, on the other hand, has heard several variations of the term.

[culbutiri]

"I guess it do be. And where they do be coming from, people at the temple did be calling their mothers different things than people from my city and me."

It probably helped that Rei had a mother, keeping track of such terms wasn't something Nesir had thought of important before she became Nesir, and she had had so much to learn and remember...

[terreifying]

"What did the people in the cities call their mothers?"

Rei's really curious about Nesir's world now.

[culbutiri]

"Mostly mama, or mother if they did be older. I did no be hearing mum until I did be going to the temple." Nesir forced herself to sound confident, it wasn't like there was anyone with whom Rei could check with if Nesir made a mistake.

[terreifying]

Rei nods.

"Then what do they call their fathers? Anyone use Daddy?"

[culbutiri]

Nesir nodded, "Yes they did, and Baba but that did be for only really little kids." A flash of memory of one of the kids they used to run with being laughed at for still calling his dad Baba.

"I did be hearing dad too, what about in your world?" She tried to turn the conversation back to Rei.

[terreifying]

"There's Papa and Father and Dad and Daddy. But I've never heard anyone say 'baba' before."

Well, maybe they did in other countries.

"It do be a little kid thing." Nesir shrugged.
