Time for a cooking lesson!~
Characters: Tohko Amano and Diarmuid Ua Duibhne
Setting: Starting in the dorms, then the third floor, and finally, the cafeteria.
Format: Action.
Summary: Tohko finally starts teaching Diarmuid how to use modern cooking appliances. How well this will go over is anyone's guess.
Warnings: ..Diarumid may burn down some things. Maybe.
[After Diarmuid finished running up the steps, Tohko took a minute to get a grip before speaking again. She hadn't quite gotten used to his high speeds, but it was alright.]
Well, it shouldn't take me too long to find the recipe books. Can you put me down so that I can grab them?

Yes, but he knows the danger of blades. Potentally explodie heatie up things? Not so much.
[Diarmuid gives the device an odd look. Something tells him he's probably not going to be using it anytime soon. It'll be safer that way.]
If there isn't a manual I can check things on, I might just let that sit for now. The stove seems much easier than trying to guess what is safe and what isn't to put in there. I don't know that the other residents of the tower would much like me blowing it up because I don't know what I'm doing. Who knows when it would be replaced.
Well, all the better to learn about those things then so that he doesn't make them explode!
[Tohko then sighed.]
Sorry..I don't think there's a manual for the microwave here..at least, not that I've seen. But you're right..it probably would cause quite a few problems if people found that the microwave had blown up.

[Or he can just let them deal with the microwave straight out and just take care of any preparation himself. That part seems so much easier.]
Is that all you need to tell me about it? Shall we move onto something else?
no subject
[Tohko then nodded and pointed at the blender, ready to talk about it-when the timer went off.]
Oh, hang on! The soup's ready!
[Tohko then rushed over to the stove, turned off the timer and the burner, and then, getting some oven mitts, moved the pot over to a different burner.]
Make sure you use some oven mitts when you pick up a hot pot or something of the sort. And when something is finished cooking on the burner, it's best to move it so that the heat doesn't make it keep cooking.

I may not know much about a modern kitchen, but I do know that much. Burns aren't much fun and no way to end a long day of hard work. Especially when there is good food to enjoy!
Now, in my day we would often let things sit for a while after they finished cooking so that the flavors could melt together. This was especially important for soups and stews. Is that still done now?
no subject
Well, it's good that you know that much!
[She's teasing, Diarmuid, teasing!]
But you're right. Burns aren't a good way to end any day, no matter whether the meal is good or not.
[Tohko lifted the lid of the pot and, after taking off her oven mitts, stirred the soup for a little while.]
That's still done now! Nowadays, you stir the soup, wait about two or three minutes to let everything settle, and then eat. And that should be enough time to get out the bowls and silverware.

[He laughs and then takes a few minutes to hunt out some bowls and spoons. Once that's done, he carries them over to Tohko and presents them like he's found a great prize. Diarmuid even includes a bow, though the silly grin on his face makes it something less than impressive.]
Here you go fair lady! Two bowls and spoons for your usage.
no subject
Ah, thank you kind sir! As for your reward-
[Tohko put the bowls down and filled one full of soup before putting one of the spoons in it and giving it to Diarmuid.]
One bowl of hot soup!
no subject
It's not too bad considering I almost ruined it how many times. I suppose when you know what you're doing you can more easily fix the mistakes.
no subject
So, she served herself a bowl of soup.]
Ah, you only made one huge mistake! Besides, I was the one who messed up the garlic. But..it's not that I know what I'm doing all the time. It's just that the recipe book usually tell you how to repair the damage if you mess up. But I'm glad to hear it turned out well! It's been awhile since I made soup.
[She then took a bite of it. As usual, it tasted like sand, but since that was normal for her, she managed to keep smiling.]
no subject
I am thankful that the books are so helpful. I'll make sure I have one the next time that I need to cook something. Especially if I don't have someone like you on hand to guide me. I really appreciate all the help you have given me today. It has been a pleasant distraction from everything else even with my mistakes.
no subject
Oh, you should keep a few books on hand if you're just starting out. It's best to follow the recipe until you really get a hand for what you're doing.
[Tohko would then take another bite of soup before continuing.]
And you're welcome! I'm glad I could be of help. And really, you didn't mess up that much. Other than the burner, you did pretty good. Besides, I messed up too. Making mistakes isn't bad..you just have to know how to handle them when they happen.

[He is quiet for a few moments, finishing up his soup, before speaking again.]
What do we do with what is left over? Do we just put it in the refrigerator for whoever might want it? Is that how they do things here?
no subject
[Tohko quickly finished her soup, not wanting to pretend any more than she had to. At Diarmuid's question, she nodded.]
Yup! You put the leftovers in a small, microwaveable container and then stick it in the fridge for others to eat. The container should read 'microwave-safe' on the bottom.
[Tohko put her bowl down and grinned at Diarmuid.]
And thus, a final lesson! You have to put away the leftovers and wash the dishes. I'll be right back!~
[Tohko would then run off to the library, returning when she had managed to grab three more of the better recipe books the library had.]
no subject
He'll be standing at the sink washing them carefully once she returns. He's smiling, though. Amusingly enough, for just a moment there, she reminded him of his wife.]
no subject
Sorry to keep you waiting..but you did a great job with putting everything away! Thank you.
no subject
I would hope so, Lady. Washing dishes and putting away leftovers isn't that hard after all. I would hope you had a little more faith in me than that!
[He looks at the books in her hands.]
And those are?
no subject
Well, I didn't think you would have a hard time with that, but you still did a good job. And these are some good recipe books that you can use to practice with!
no subject
[He picks the books up and gives them a look over before turning back to Tohko and giving her a bow.]
I think, if you don't mind, that I'm going to takes these back to my room and give them a look over while what you have told me is still fresh in my head.
no subject
[Tohko would return the bow with a curtsy before replying.]
Oh, sure. That's alright with me! I guess I'll head back to the library and read for a little while.
[And eat to get the taste of sand out of her mouth.]
no subject
As always, you are too kind to me. Take care until we can meet again.
[He gives her one more bow before disappearing out the door to return to his room and lose himself in the books for a while. He did feel better than when they had first met, but he still isn't sure he's quite ready to take on all he knows is waiting for him.]
no subject
[Tohko would quickly try to reply and curtsy as Diarmuid left, but who knows if he saw or heard her. As he walked off, she sighed to herself and headed to the library.
Hiding in a small corner of the library, she read and ate The Little Prince, hoping that this cold glass of water would help her see things a bit more clearly for the future.]
