Characters: Canada

Setting: The 20th Floor
Format: Either or.
Summary: Canada's climbed to the top of the tower to see what's around them if possible.
Warnings: NA.

Canada felt like he had been trapped in the building for much too long. Even in the forest it felt artificial and forced, like a garden or terrarium. It didn't feel like there was any connection to the outside world. So, gathering up his bear Matt headed up all those stairs, passing some terrifynig rooms like the one with the bloodied walls and screaming or the room that was a complete void.

Finally reaching the top and standing on the very top of the tower he sighed. Nothing could be seen through the fog but at least he could smell the fresh air instead of whatever was recycled within the building below his feet.

"Likewise, are you Japanese?" he asked, he found it odd that some people here had very japanese names and yet didn't know what japan was at all. It still confused him but that's what was the chaos of multiple worlds here.

A strange look that could have been guilt flickered over Suzaku's face before he nodded, "Yes I am, though I hear my world is different than most here, does Britannia exist in your world?"

The guilt surprised Matt but he didn't comment on it. "Where I'm from there's Britian, which is known as England, I think the only time it's been called Britannia was in a song or there was a ship called that. Sorry for asking, your name just sounded very Japanese." Matt apologized and looked back out at the fog, obviously something had transpired in his world against Japan and England, or what was close to those nations. In a small way Matt wasn't too sure if he wanted to know what went down.

Suzaku nodded, other people had said that as well. "No our Britannia is where your America is, if thats the world you come from. Your America and your Canada," he added remembering his conversation with Canada. "But yes I am Japanese, where are you from?"

"I'm Canada" he said on reflex before stopping and thinking how weird that might've sounded. But he didn't let it stop him. "Seeing as all of North America was a colony of Britain that doesn't surprise me that it would be called such a thing in a different world. I have to admit, my name is about as English as you get, course at one time it was French." Matt trailed off looking just a touch sad at that but saying nothing more on the subject.

"There's two of you?" Suzaku blinked and shrugged, "Yes a small island named Britain existed in my world as well, before Britannia but it was taken by Napoleon and is a part of France." He frowned as he remembered history lessons before he joined the Britannian army. "The other Canada is female," he added as an afterthought.

"Ah, yeah, Maddie. Apparently were from opposite but the same world. Only thing that changed was people's gender." Matt gave a small laugh. "If you ever meet the England here don't tell him he was taken over by France, I'm sure he'd have an aneurism." Shaking his head he looked at Suzaku a moment.

"I'm sure with how my brother was doing as a world power he would've taken over, but the world is in a recession and he's at the center of it. Now we're all hoping that his economy doesn't collapse." It was a whole other set of issues from just wars. Sure war was one of the factors in it but in the end it was money.

"Oh," So there where two worlds where countries had people as representatives. "Your brother? Do you mean the Britain of your world or the North America?" Politics unfortunatly went mainly over Suzaku's head but he understood what Matt was saying. "If his economy collapses will he then make the other economies collapse?" Steal from them perhaps?

"My brother of North America. It's seperated to Canada in the north and the UNited States of America in the south. The border is roughly around where the great lakes are if you know any geography." Matt explained and heaved a sigh when Suzaku asked about the economy.

"In the long run, maybe, the last recession I wasn't hit very hard but many other countries were. But if his economy fails... it won't be pretty and I'll have to start guarding my borders."

Suzaku nodded, North America, that was where Stephanie had said she was from. He nodded, sort of placing the border in his own mental map of Britannia. Not that Britannian geography was a strong point, he had lived in Japan almost his whole life and hadn't gone to Britannia until Lelouch had taken the throne.

"Will your brother invade you if his economy fails?"

"If he knows what's good for him he won't. The last time he did that I beat him back almost to the gulf of Mexico and burned his most important political building and I was still not a full independent country then." he shook his head. He really didn't know what Alfred would do, not even close, but there wasn't a chance he'd let his brother take any of his land.

"It's.... not something I want to think about."

Suzaku raised an eyebrow at Matt's explanation but respected his lack of wishing to speak about it, after all there were many things Suzaku didn't wish to discuss with others. "Is your brother here?"

"I think he is, I heard the other Canada say something about him although I haven't seen him at all." Matt gave a small shrug, it wasn't unheard of for Alred to keep to himself but it was odd that he hadn't heard anything more than a passing comment about him.

"We're twins... almost. His hair is straight and shorter not to mention he's more brawn than I am." giving a small laugh Matt shook his head. "You might see him around, I get mistaken for him often."

Suzaku gave a small nod, "I haven't seen him yet I don't think."

"Well, if you do and call him Canada he'll correct you pretty fast. He's a nice guy... just dense at times."

Suzaku nodded, "I will hopefully not mix him and you up."

"Ah, thanks, but if you do, really, it's okay." Matt was used to it and correcting people had become so reflex that at this point he barely noticed anymore.

"How about yourself, where are you from? You're the first person I've met who didn't think I was dropped on my head when I told them I was a nation."

Suzaku shrugged, "Canada, miss Canada that is explained it to me. It seems no more insane than trolls or towers with captives from multipul worlds." He gave a small smile, "I am from Japan, Tokyo to be exact though it has been under Britannia's rule since I was ten."

"I guess that's true, still, it's... a bit of a paint to try to explain when people look more like they wish for your head on a pike." oh yes that had happeend once already and it was not a meeting he'd like to repeat, at all.

"Ah, I liked visiting Tokyo, although I feel like a giant walking through the streets. People take quite a few photos, even if I'm with Japan but its always nice to visit there. I'm still not sure on half of the social protocol that seems so prominent." He gave a light laugh and shook his head. He was rambling but he chalked that up to not usually being social, let alone talking so openly with a human.

Suzaku gave a small smile but his eyes were sad. "You would fit in fine in my Tokyo, most of Tokyo is Britannian," he tries to keep the bitterness out of his voice, after all Matt wasn't Britannian, he was from a different world altogether. "Social protocol is always difficult," he remembered joining the Britannian army, not understanding anything, and then when he became a knight...

"I am glad though that in one world at least Tokyo is still beautiful."

"That's odd to hear, I don't think I can see Tokyo with having a great deal of caucasian people there. But I guess Tokyo is beautiful as any metropolis is. I'm not very comfortable with large cities, my biggest is only around 2 million so I spend a lot of time out in the woods. If I were in plaid I'd fit the stereotype of lumberjack probably." Matt laughed trying to lighten the mood a little.

But after a moment he reached out and gently patted Suzaku's shoulder.

"Don't give up, if it's anything I've learned after a few centuries that would be it."

Suzaku gave a small smile, he had never lived in the country side, the shrine had been the closest to it. "I wont," he said with a determined look, "We are fixing it, if I ever get back that is... I couldn't imagine living in the country side, it must be quiet."

"It's pretty quiet, mostly the noise comes from wind in the trees and the odd owl or song birds. Cities can just be overwhelming for me." Matt gave Suzaku another kind smile.

"I'm glad to hear it, repairing cities are a lot of work but if people are determined they can build even better ones. Germany did that after the second world war, it took a while but he's doing fine now."

At the mention of repairing cities a look of pain comes over Suzaku's face and when he spoke it was quietly, "I meant the situation. Tokyo is... Tokyo is beyond repair."

"It may look that way, but my city of YOrk was burned to the ground and we managed to fix the entire thing, Berlin was leveled and it's since been rebuilt. Things always seem worse than they are and they will never quite be the same as they were but all is not lost when it comes to rebuilding a city." For once Matt actually opened his mouth for longer than a few seconds. He had a great deal of optimism for everyone and faith in people in general.

He gave Suzaku's shoulder a squeeze, trying to be friendly.
