Summary: So you heard about those two pokemon trainers? Well there is a third...

Room 3-04

[Going to bed and waking up somewhere new had only happened twice in Dave's life. He wasn't a fan of before and now is no different. Some part of him expected it. Like how his dreams are full of mazes, the screeching of crows, and death painted in so many colorful ways. Once the waking hour happens, he tends to push it out of his head.

Not thinking about it has been his best friend. Unfortunately, now he has to consider it because of a letter. Then again, if it had been old gold tooth who brought him here, he'd expect to be space dust.

He stands in the hallway just outside room 3-04 and frowns down at his pokegear. The piece of shit just isn't connecting which is stupid. It has perfect signal, usually. Dave is different from the one any tower resident would be familiar with. He's clearly older, fairly tall, and starting to fill out and take on more of a resemblance to his parents.

He stuffs the gear into the pocket of his dark coat and looks to the flame maned unicorn to his left.] Don't look at me, man. I got nothing to even say about this. If you're along for the ride that means either I'm asleep, so, stand by for murder by the ticking clock, or, who even knows.

[He reaches out to pat her nose, giving it a reassuring rub with a sigh.] If it's Team Rocket don't settle for hot foot. Roast their shorts.


Cafeteria


[By this point, he's gotten hungry. Anyone treading into the cafeteria will find one blond haired shade wearing douche of a guy in a dark coat sitting between two large dragons. None of them look all that pleased with the food but they're eating the stupid oatmeal anyway. Dave wasn't the only one that got so hopelessly spoiled on Jane's cooking.

Sitting wrapped up in a knitted scarf (red, green, purple, and blue), is a large egg. Dave keeps checking on it, sometimes shifting so he can keep an eye on his scaled bros and the egg at the same time. After a while he just transfers it to his lap where he knows it will be safe.]

[For once. Dave shuts up. He'll push at Karkat but, he wants him to see Snoop is harmless. She coos when he pets her nose and presses into the petting hand.]

[ welp. Karkat can keep petting that snout. it's not really a big deal. his posture relaxes, though not completely. paranoid troll will always be the slightest bit tense no matter the situation. this is a good start, at least. ]

You know if you did this to any beast on Alternia that wasn't your own? Chances are you'd lose a hand.

I know. You've told me that before. Pokemon are different. Snoop tends to judge what a person's heart is like before she acts. You might not smell the same, but she knows you, sort of. [Dave shrugs. He's not bothered by the information Karkat is giving him. As of yet very little worries him, except the collar.]

[papshooshing]

You mean there's a Karkat where you're from.

[ flattest look of all looks ever. you're getting one. but notice how he isn't likely to stop petting that giant, soft beast. ]

Do I really look like the type of person that would even want to engage in those shenanigans?

[turntechtrainer]

Yeah, there’s a Karkat there. He’s been in pokeland for two years. Just like John and Rose. Gotta be clear here, which shenanigans do you mean, because I’ve mentioned a lot of those. [Dave gives Karkat a stoic look right back, not flinching away from the flat look. He endures it calmly.]

[papshooshing]

...I obviously meant having one of these leeches and you know it. It looks like you have to put time and effort - probably a decent amount of coddling too - in order to raise it. Her.

Whatever.

[ getting off track here... ]

Point being, I am not the type.

[turntechtrainer]

[Dave just stops and laughs.] Her. And for your information, you do just fine at raising Pokemon and battling with them. Maybe someone taught him to do it, I don't know. But I don't think he's all that different from you.

[Even the downplaying is the same.]

He's actually the guy that gave me some battle tips and pointed out the benefits of dragons.

[papshooshing]

Holy shit... What a nerd. Does he have nothing better to do with his time like, you know, actually work on a way to leave that shitty place or die in a ditch?

If you got to a place you could relax, not worry about being killed and your friends could show up, would you want to leave? [Still chuckling over here. He is that tall five foot nine guy that can't stop.] But that's not the point.

Since this is new to you, let me say this to you like I did to him.

You can do a lot more than you think you can.

[ and this Karkat is still 13... short.

but way to throw him off like that, Dave. way to fucking go. it probably shows on his face too, as he's not very good with the poker faces. ]

[Dave sets his hands on his hips and smirks. Karkat is smaller than him and not wiser like the other him is. Oh, it feels kinda good to just knock him off guard.]

You heard. It isn't like this is a foreign language. Want me to say it again?

I don't need to hear your inane drivel, Strider. What even inspired you to say that to me? Do I look that pathetic in your searing red, but hidden eyes? Really? The day that I need you to start spouting words with meanings that don't apply to me I'll -

[ someone's feathers are getting ruffled here. ]

You'd like that but no, I'm just saying. You keep going 'I don't have this in me' when shock of shocks, it is. You call it 'inana drivel', but you know I'm right.

And how many times am I ri- [He snaps his fingers.] Oh wait! That's all the time. My bad.

[ he's silent for a few moments. going over everything in his head. there are people here that keep telling him these things. his ancestor... Gamzee... even that Persona thingie. telling he's worth more than what he thinks. that it's fine to be who he is instead of trying to puff himself up into something bigger and badder.

what is it that they see that Karkat doesn't? ]

Maybe I'm sick of you taking the bat to yourself. [It's more than that. He and Karkat had a easier time talking in route. Because it wasn't about insulting the other to prove they're better or whatever. They just were and that was fine.

He'd never thought that just relaxing and not bothering with the rivalry and fighting would be eh, mostly peaceful. That and there had been no bitching about Terezi. Something he was v glad of.] Take it or leave it, I meant every word. Fyi, I'm not that fond of you either. Why does this discount my opinion?

[ just going to grumble and complain all the way to the cafeteria. can he dump your ass here and leave? ]

[Yeah sure, if that's what you want. But Dave is going to speak up again as if he's hardly bothered by the grumbling. That is, he IS hardly bothered.] I'm not trying to change your mind, or say don't do it. Just giving you my thoughts on it. Won't hear it from me again, unless I feel the need to speak up. [Which he won't. People need to do what they're going to do.]
