The Haunter of the Dark
Characters: Destiny String Players who signed up for the maze event.
Setting: Floor Forty-Nine
Format: Any
Summary: Find the source of the problem, a few hours after the mist starts to fill the tower.
Warnings: Dungeons, Mirrors and Mazes
It looked like this little 'game' might be drawing into a close soon enough. Whatever you were supposed to be here for, you had a feeling that the taunting voice was calling out specifically for you.
You're not too sure why and how you knew this was the floor you had to be on, but going in, you had a strange sense of dread. The type that sent chills down one's spine and hairs standing on end, warning you that you'd have to make sure to be ready before stepping in there. Hopefully others would soon with you...but the cruel laughter didn't seem to stop ringing in your ears as you stepped in.
A flash of light, and what was supposed to be just a mirror maze had shifted and changed. You all find yourself stuck in a strange bottled start. Glass walls separate everyone in groups that didn't seem to have a particular pattern. In fact the angles are strange and disorienting. Stare too long and you might get sick. They all seem to be leading out to mirror-like walls...and a maze filled with mirrors and no doubt other things...
...yet there was nothing to do but press on. At least, once you've talked to each other.

ATTACK | PHYSICAL
Good thing he had that pistol, at least. He wasn't giving that monster a chance. Even now, falling back onto his Persona wasn't something Nik did yet. It's going to be a hard habit for him to get into.
He moves around to get a clear shot at the creature and tells his two teammates to look out in his usual flat, quiet tone, as he opens fire at it.]
ATTACK | FIRE
And while she isn't totally aware of it, the consequences of this are starting to show.
When Nik speaks up, Samus immediately rolls to the side and is kneeling down as she aims her cannon at the creature. The cannon's shape shifts and becomes wider as she fires an insanely hot blast of plasma at the creature.]
ATTACK | WATER, LIGHT
BLOODY HONEYMOON!
WEAKNESS | ALL OUT ATTACK!
[NOW IS THE CHANGE TO STRIKE TRUE!]
[OOC: Everyone who joins into the all out attack runs to attack the creature. Reply to this post (everyone replies to it instead of replying to each other) and picks a number between 1-5. Each one does a different amount of damage and one is a 1-hit KO, that will instantly end the battle.]

[The combined force of all their attacks leaves little time for it to do anything. It disappears into a thick mist, leaving behind nothing. Thankfully this battle was short.
You continue onward. The mirrors around you are starting to distort your figures, much like a funhouse. For Samus, however, all she sees are scenes from her past, playing out at her. That is when Samus and Eikichi get interrupted by a communication link. Nic can hear them talk, however, just not who they are talking too. It seems that the team might have problems they'll need to sort out before choosing a direction...]

That's when the taunting voices had started up again, of course, causing the strained muttering and the severe hit to her sanity as the guilt started weighing down on her shoulders.
When the link was broken, however, and Nikolai speaks up, Samus just looks up at him with a sort of tired stance.]
... I'm afraid my sanity isn't currently stable... [Was the Phazon seeping into her mind? Was she finally starting to lose it, here of all places?]
I should move ahead alone. If I... turn hostile... I don't want to be near anyone.
[Before Eikichi or Nik can further protest she's already pushing herself ahead to try and get away from them as fast as she can, while visions of her fallen comrades in the mirrors continue taunting her... Luckily the hall is long with almost no turns where she was headed, so it wouldn't be too much of a problem to follow her.]

You are not authorized to step further .Funny how he reached her size despite the fact he had no fancy suit.Still, Eikichi commanded his own presence. He'd been the Boss of his school after all, the place might have been crawling with dangerous monsters or pirates, but the risks and mental trauma was just as powerful there.
What followed next was a terrible gamble on his part, but hell if he'd let Nyarlathotep claim her.]
You aren't going anywhere! If you're such a danger to us, then there's no choice! This place is life or death! If you are a liability, then I'll need to eliminate you.
[It's taking his ENTIRE self to be composed and make this lie sound creditable. But for this to work, Samus needs to fear that she might die. Not to mention she is a walking tank; she's extremely dangerous. Yet the only real way to bring their personas out is for that fear to manifest. He just hopes that Nic will understand.
He also hopes he doesn't die. That's a good thing to think about too.]
THIS IS IT! DEATHTHOUCH!
[The looming figure of Hades, towering nearly two and half times Samus, casts a dark circle around her, sending the dark spell at her. Eikichi picked it carefully, it had to be the type that sounds frightening and like it could end her life. Even if it's dangerous for him to use at all, considering it could leave him exhausted. But...he needs to do this. For Samus' sake.
As much as she doesn't realize it right now.
One thing does ring out in his mind;]
PLEASE LET THIS GAMBLE PAY OFF! COME ON SAMUS, YOU CAN DO IT!

What? Nom we need to-- [And then Eikichi does his thing. Nik turns to him, angry. If she's really dangerous and unstable, this wasn't a good move.] What are you doing?!

[At this rate, the stress is going to build to critical levels. It isn't so much that she would be against him eliminating her for the sake of the mission..... but moreso the fact that she truly believes that he can't.
If he continues attacking her, he may do some damage... until her body's own defenses kick in and the Phazon takes over. He wouldn't stand a chance.
Already the mirrors all around her are beginning to ripple and warp. She's not seeing herself as Samus anymore. She's seeing herself as a dark entity, an entity that was already responsible for the death of two of her comrades and possibly indirectly responsible for the deaths of hundreds more.]

WHY SHOULD I?
[He hated himself so very much right now. As Samus falls to the ground, he attempts to make a bunch of strange gestures to the other; after all how do you really say 'I'm just trying to get her Persona to come out' in a series of hand motions? It comes out with a hand cross, shaking his finger, asking him to stop, spinning a finger around his head...then he goes right back being series at her before she notices. Nic, you better have gotten that...somehow.]
What's the matter? GIVING UP ALREADY? CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT? YOU'RE JUST PROVING MY POINT! HADES! AGAIN!
[The Persona obeys, and sends wave of the same attack at her.]

However, he doesn't like where this is going. If she really was unstable as she said, this could get dangerous. So he's watching this and keeping his gun out. Juuuust in case.]

[Samus cries out when she's hit with another dark attack that sends her reeling backwards. Bracing herself on one knee, the bounty hunter is doing everything in her power to maintain control of her sanity and the Phazon in her body, but the hallucinations are getting worse.
What they can't see, but what she sees and feels all too vividly is her body slowly corrupting and succumbing to the Phazon inside of her, starting with her hands and working its way up her arms as she slowly turns into the dark doppelganger she's seeing in the mirrors. Her dark reflection begins to cackle at her madly, taunting her with a harsh shout in her own voice.]
GIVE IN TO THE CORRUPTION!!
[ Her hallucinations worsen as she starts seeing her visor flash red:]
[Samus screams out in a primal kind of pain and rage before lifting her arm cannon in desperation and aiming it at Eikichi, charging it up for a deadly blast.
It's all she can think to do, pure instincts driving her now, her body glowing bright blue with Phazon energy.]

What comes of the energy isn't Phazon, either.
Only mere moments before Samus is able to fire off the round aimed for Eikichi's heart, an incredibly tall and elegant bird creature appears from nowhere, blocking her aim. Upon seeing the creature, suddenly the hallucinations all around her melt away.
Her condition is stable, all of the warnings gone. Her body is back under control, the cannon's humming of a charged blast slowly dying down and fading out as she lowers the weapon. The voices no longer plague her mind. While the mirrors still reflected a dark part of her, it's shrinking away in disgust, falling into silence once more.
Samus stares up at the creature before her. A kind and gentle look is on its face as it places its hands on Samus's shoulders and touches its beak gently to the top of her helmet.
It then fades away, leaving the bounty hunter on the ground, terribly drained and terribly confused.]

I'm alright... I don't know what came over me, I thought I was about to...
[Ugh, she doesn't really want to get into it. Eikichi's belated scream makes her look up in surprise, wondering if he'd been attacked. No, it just seems like he'd had a momentary lapse in his own sanity from the barrel of her arm cannon being aimed his way....]
I apologize if I scared you but please calm down, you'll give away our position! [If... Samus hadn't given it away already... Ergh...]
... We need to get moving.

I wouldn't even think 'bout that. If this bastard is who I think it is, he's just watching everything getting some sort of sick, twisted pleasure out of it.
