The truth ain't always pretty.
Characters: Grumpy Glareface. Open to chaos in the first prompt, Animus and Destiny players in the second prompt and Animus players in the third prompt.
Setting: Hallway, Floor 4 and Cafeteria.
Summary: 1st prompt backdated to Edgeworth (grudgingly) accepting help about his elevator problems, 2nd prompt backdated to 10th with Edgeworth gathering his thoughts about Admin meeting and 3rd is today's date, where reactions to reveal involve Edgeworth spilling his tea.
Warnings: It involves elevators and that musings on that "Everyone is meguca" reveal. Also, TL;DR because mun should have made a post ages ago.
Open to chaos only. Backdated to 12th January if that's okay with you, chaos-mun?
[Anybody here who has no fighting skills or magical powers whatsoever is pretty much better-off travelling around the tower using the lift.
Which would have been no problem at all had one such individual, Miles Edgeworth not experienced a traumatising incident involving an earthquake, a trapped lift and a murdered father when he was a child. As a result the prosecutor developed a huge phobia of earthquakes, anything representing earthquakes (such as air turbulences on airplane travels) and lifts.
Therefore, to say that he came to the Tower with a large disadvantage would be an understatement. Edgeworth is no coward – he would not have been able to do his job back home effectively if he was - he has seen dead bodies, confronted murderers and even once remained quite calm when someone threatened him with a gun. Unfortunately, earthquakes and lifts are a different matter altogether – and they are one of the few times where Edgeworth’s defenses really do shatter, as hard as he tries to prevent it.
Being a man who hates it when other people see his weaknesses, Edgeworth is utterly ashamed of his fears and has yet to tell anyone in the tower of them. The only person who does know, Maya Fey, managed to persuade her friend into going up and down the lift with her every day when he needed to go to the cafeteria and the dorms (needless to say, she took a good while to get stubbornly prideful Edgeworth to agree to let her do this) in order to stop him from collapsing.
Today, Edgeworth can be found standing in front of the elevator – alone. The prosecutor does not want Maya’s help today – he wants to try and get over his fears on his own....
Which is easier said than done.
Standing in front of the lift doors, Edgeworth takes a deep breath, lifts his hand to press the ‘Call’ button, and.....
He hesitates.
Edgeworth mentally kicks himself. He has to go through with this! It will be okay. The lift will not stop, there will be no earthquake and nobody will die...
Little does he know that help is soon around the corner....]
Open to all. Floor 4. Backdated to after admin meeting on 10th February
[After that meeting with the Administrators, Edgeworth has been spending the last few days on Floor 4, going through his notes on what he had found out in the cafeteria by listening to everyone.
He has found out a great deal and gained a decent impression of the administrators (eg. Zo being the one, who apparently took them here, Jason being the type of person who should be put in a mental institution, etc). Everything he has gathered he has now written in his organizer.
A month ago, Edgeworth would have refused to believe anything that was supernatural and did not make any sense. Some lunatics had somehow kidnapped him and there needed to be a way out.
However, time has passed and the prosecutor has seen more bizarre things than he is comfortable with (knowing that his own home world had spirit channeling and weird glowing green gems that show creepy lock things when someone is hiding something was bad enough). He’s seen monsters roaming about (and done the sensible thing which is staying away from them as far as possible) and people do have superpowers here.
Edgeworth also did not initially believe the idea that his home had been destroyed and he had somehow been brought to another planet. Now, however, even he feels that he cannot completely rule out the idea that perhaps Earth has been destroyed. After all, this seems to be a place where logic and reality have been completely tossed out of the window. Whatever the secrets behind this place are, he has to find the truth, no matter how awful it might be...
Still, as the prosecutor discovered the other day with that network post he had made and all the drama that had resulted from it, he might need to be even more cautious. He had no intention of forcing people to talk about whatever superpowers they had and was pretty careful about what type of questions he wanted to ask on the network (like not ask who the administrators are). This time, he probably was not careful enough....
Oh well, what is done is done. No point in dwelling over it.
Despite this, however, Edgeworth feels that he should try and be more on top of things - which, admittedly, is more difficult when one is stuck in some creepy tower far away from home without anything useful like the police and the law at one’s disposal.
Edgeworth flicks through his organizer and comes across the piece of paper where he wrote down all the dangerous floors that Diarmuid told him about. Hmm.....perhaps he should take the opportunity some time to check out these floors himself? Not alone, obviously...
Some young man in a red suit and a fabulous cravat can be found in the lounge, glancing over his notes. Come and talk to him? Troll him? Come and be horrible on Valentine’s Day? Or tell him he’s being too much of an old fogey and needs to relax, socialise and have fun?Because “What are social skills outside work? I'm no good with people” Edgeworth definitely needs to loosen up a little bit. Be nosy and look at his notes?]
Open to Animus residents only – February 28th
[Edgeworth may have been adjusting to the fact that not a lot of things in the tower can be explained with science and logic.
However, this new revelation, the one that he and everyone else are apparently not in their real bodies and that their souls were in those collars that everyone was wearing...all of this is on a new level of “Have I just stumbled into The Matrix?!”
As much as he would like to, though, the prosecutor has been in Animus long enough to not just dismiss anything non-logical as nonsense. He has seen all the recent network posts (Feferi’s information, Dax’s horrifying murder and the confrontation between Riki, Zo and Nyarlathotep) for the whole idea not to be considered a lie. Additionally, now that he thinks about it, ‘Animus’ sounds a tad similar to the Latin word ‘Animus’, meaning ‘spirit’, ‘mind’ or ‘soul’. That and one of the Lancers, the rude one, said something about the collars having something to do with other people’s souls....
On the other hand, Edgeworth wonders, if he is not inside his body, would he technically be......dead?
He reaches for his collar, which is discreetly hidden under his cravat, but then hesitates as the thought of that....thing in that tube gives him a sickly feeling in the pit of his stomach.....if it is really his soul...
But the whole concept is just ridiculous!]
Nghhhhh.....is there nothing in this tower that makes actual sense?!
[And he slams his fist on his table, spilling that awful strawberry tea which goes all onto thatsilly-looking sophisticated red suit of his....
Whoops.]

Re: 28th
Maya's statement leaves him completely bewildered, though. Maya may have been the type to put on a brave and optimistic face - as was evident after her kidnap by Matt Engarde and the loss of her mother - but even this didn't bother in the slightest? It was perfectly possible that she was trying to be brave here as well.
Then again, there is the possibility that she has not found out this new piece of information yet...
Still, he has to say it.] ....You seem rather relaxed, considering the recent turn of events. [In other words, WTF, Maya?]
no subject
[ Okay, wait. He did say 'recent turn of events, right? Okay, now Maya's going to stare at the older man with wide eyes, looking perplexed. ]
... Wait, did something happen?
no subject
no subject
[ In other words, no, she hasn't. ]
no subject
No. No matter what, Maya deserves to know the truth. Sure, Edgeworth is still not sure whether this whole soul thing is real or not but that is not the point here. Edgeworth takes a long pause and begins to speak. He is going to remain as calm and dignified as he can for Maya's sake. No sugarcoating - just tell her.]
You have know people can apparently.......come back to life here, correct?
no subject
[ Maya's voice is slightly serious as she speaks, looking down in anguish. She doesn't want to remember the last time she died in this place. Even though it's only happened once. ]
no subject
The way she looked down at the floor, it was clear that she knew something about this 'returning to life' idea. Either because she had witnessed someone die or...
Oh, god.
Was Maya implying that she had actually died in this place as well? Either way, something had happened and it had traumatised her greatly. What had happened and who was responsible? Whatever it was, Edgeworth knew that Maya was not going to like what he was about to ask her to do next.]
Maya, I realise that this might not be very easy for you to talk about, but I have to ask you to clarify you mean by that statement just now.
[Maya may not have wanted to talk about it and it was probably going to dredge up horrible memories for her. Miles Edgeworth was well aware of this. However, no matter what, he had to know the truth behind the whole 'returning from death' concept in the tower - to help him discover what was going on in the tower and why everyone was here. That, and whatever had happened to Maya, he could do all in his power to prevent something like that happening to her again. If the prosecutor had to be callous in order to achieve his goals, so be it.]
no subject
Yet, it's hard for her to actually say anything. At all. So when she does open her mouth, her voice is soft, hushed even. ]
I... died here before. Once.
no subject
Now that Maya said it, however, Edgeworth was at a complete loss for words. Maya had actually died? That was not supposed to happen! Once you were dead, that was the end of you. You never returned. Not alive, at least.
However, as illogical as it was, Edgeworth could not find himself denying Maya's words. Why would she lie about something like that? That, and there was that whole revelation on the network. If nobody was in their original bodies, then what did that mean....?
Just what was this tower? Who and what were the administrators? How were they able to do something like this? Furthermore, what could be done to stop them so that people like Maya could never be hurt by them again?]
