[Thanks to combined efforts, Mondo's managed to set up the lounge to make for a pretty nice birthday party, all things considered. There's decorations and food, if mostly desserts, but he figures Chihiro likes that kind of thing so it's all good.

He knows Chihiro has plenty of friends, so there's not much worry about people showing up, but...he doesn't want it to be lame.

Wanting it to be a surprise, around noon he goes to get Chihiro and carry him in on his shoulders.]

[The-The candle just waved at him! He takes a step back involuntarily, still rather unsure about Litwick.]

What... is that... creature...?

[ghostytrainer]

Oh, her? She's a Litwick. Don't worry, she won't hurt you. [He giggles.] She's actually very sweet.

A Litwick...? She... isn't a ghost then?

[ghostytrainer]

Oh no, she is definitely a ghost! She's just a very special kind of ghost. A Pokémon ghost! So she's not like...a dead person or anything like that. Actually, I hatched her out of an egg.

[Pokémon. Logic.]

Pokemon... ghost that hatched out of an egg...? [... what is this...?]

What is a Pokemon?

[ghostytrainer]

Pocket Monsters! Basically...tamable monsters that are a video game in some worlds and real in others.

Pocket Monsters... Eh? They're in video games in some worlds but real others... [That is rather interesting!] Is there a reason why they are called so?

[ghostytrainer]

I am pretty sure it's because of these. [He pulls a small, red-and-white ball off of his belt. A quick press of the center button causes it to grow to fit more or less perfectly in the palm of his hand.] This is kind of like...a little mini mobile Pokémon house. So that you can transport and keep track of them easier. And when they're inside, even the largest of Pokémon becomes pocket-sized!

[he moves closer for a look and blinks a bit when the ball enlarges and at John's explanation] They can all fit in there...? That-That's amazing!

[ghostytrainer]

Well, one per ball but yes! [He demonstrates, calling the Lampent back inside her ball in a flash of light.] Just like that.

But... how is this even possible...? Can I have a look at that ball?

[ghostytrainer]

[He shrugs.]

Technology in the Pokémon world was kind of screwy. [He releases the ghost back out of her ball before handing it over. Juuuust in case.] Their computers were like...ages behind ours but at the same time they managed to make stuff like this? Didn't really make a whole lot of sense but there you have it.

[Chihiro takes it and carefully examines the Pokeball then he looks up in surprise.]

Eh? You weren't originally from the Pokemon world?

[ghostytrainer]

[He shakes his head.]

No. I am from Earth, originally. Or, an Earth, I should say. Since apparently there are multiple Earths out there in addition to multiple worlds that like to perform inter-universal kidnappings. I met somebody else here who went through the same thing as me, though in different worlds.

I see... Yes, there do seem to be a number of parallel universes... How did you end up in the Pokemon world then?

[ghostytrainer]

[He shrugs.]

Not a clue. I just woke up there one day and went with it. It happened to a lot of people from a lot of different universes. So...similar concept to this place only with less nightmare fuel and a distinct lack of batshit administrators.

Really...? So there are other places like this Tower out that that takes people from different universes too...?

[ghostytrainer]

Mmhmm. Actually, I have met somebody else here who has been through the same thing, though different worlds before we both wound up here. He wasn't from Johto.
