You awake in a cell. It's perfectly white, seemingly scrubbed impossibly clean, and instead of bars a sheet of glass or plastic--it's hard to tell--covers the only exit. The cell block itself is really a cell circle--while each person is in their own cell, they can see all the others, the circle only broken by a hallway leading to a closed elevator door.

No unusual powers or abilities work, and any object that grants such skills has been removed.

Romeo nodded and then remembered the man might not be able to see, "Yes," he said quietly, "Mister Germany and Kanaya were both taken this morning." That was different, until now they had been taken one each day.

"Kanaya, damn," Ψiioniic hissed. Not that he'd had any illusions about being able to protect her - from the moment Romeo had been taken, he'd known they were all in for similar fates. But he hadn't even been here to try.

At least he was back in time to hopefully be able to comfort her a little. Assuming he could stop freaking out, himself.

"What about you, how are you holding up?" Romeo had been the first one taken, so if there were going to be side effects, they'd start with him.

"I'm sorry," Romeo let his head drop again, he really was sorry, sorry that he couldn't protect anyone. Couldn't stop the bad people doing this to them. "I'm..." He wasn't sure how to answer that question, he was so scared and so sad and so angry. He couldn't move around properly without stumbling he couldn't even hold his head up, his spirits were far too heavy to keep up without hands.

"It doesn't hurt... not like I think it should be hurting..."

"It'th not your fault," Ψiioniic says immediately, almost reflexively. He's used to dealing with Signless, who also tends to take the blame for everything from a cloudy day to global cooling. "We're all in this together, and we're all doing everything we can. I'm glad you're not in pain, at least. Me, neither... though I know what you mean about feeling like you should be."

Romeo nodded, "I wish we could stop them, before they hurt anyone else. Not being in pain is strange, I don't want it to hurt but..." He blinks more tears away, "It doesn't feel real even though I know I am awake."

"None of thith has felt real from the moment I woke in the tower," Ψiioniic said with a half-hysterical laugh. "Sometimes I wonder if I'm really thtill hanging there in the Helm console, trapped in the ship, and I've jutht gone crazy and retreated from reality completely to try to protect myself. How elthe can my dead best friend be here, or my Descendant from a thousand thweeps in my future?"

Romeo didn't really understand what Psiioniic was saying but he understood that it felt like a dream and that his friend who was dead was here. "Maybe..." It was a bad thought and one he had had in the last few days. "Maybe we are dead, maybe the worlds did end and we did something bad and are in hell." Except hell was meant to hurt, and this didn't...

"I thought thith was heaven at firtht," Ψiioniic admitted. "I was free, my owner wath nowhere in sight, Signless wath alive. Now... I'd almotht rather be back on the ship."

Almost. Because Signless being alive was still the best thing that had ever happened to him. But the thought that somewhere else in this complex, his moirail might be undergoing some horrible tortures... no, on second thought, this was hell after all. He would rather be back in the ship.

Romeo shook his head sadly, "I knew it wasn't heaven because if it was Alfredo would be here." He was scared of the idea that it was hell but it made sense. However...

"If it's hell though then we can't escape and it will go on for ever and ever and ever."

"If it'th hell, then I'm not so sorry that the Condesce and Dualscar are here any more," Ψiioniic said grimly, leaning his head against the bars. "They detherve every minute of it. But I do wish SS wasn't. He doesn't deserve any of it, not really."

Romeo did not know who the Condesce or Dualscar were but if Psiioniic wanted them to be in hell then they must be very very bad people indeed. "Is SS your friend? The one who you found here?" It was sad that Psiioniic's friend was here in hell and not in heaven.

"I am sure he is good person really, I think it is really hard to go to heave."

"I think he'th a good person, but it depends who you athk," Ψiioniic admitted. "We were revolutionarieth and heretics, trying to change the thystem to abolish slavery and eradicated the hemospectrum that keepth the lower classes repressed. Tho, I suppose the high-bloods would thay we deserve every minute we thpend in hell." Talking about this helps to distract him a little from the horror he's in right now, and hopefully it will do the same for Romeo. "What about you, what were you doing in your world?"

Romeo's eyes widened as Psiioniic told him about his world, he didn't understand the thing about blood, or lower classes being repressed but he understood revolutionaries and slavery.

"Did you do it?" His voice is strained, but under it all there is a glimmer of hope there, "Did you stop slavery?" Because if there was one world where people were free...

Well it would make all the worlds seem a little brighter. "When Alfredo died he asked me to carry on his dreams for him, to make a world where kids like us wern't sold as chimney sweeps. Where all children can run free under the blue sky." Tears filled his eyes and he gave a sad smile.

"The world ended before I could even begin but did you suceed? Did you and your friend do it?"

Ψiioniic was silent for a long moment, before he finally shook his head. "No," he admitted, voice low. "We lotht. We were captured, SS was tortured to death in front of uth, Dolorosa was turned into a slave, and I... I became the Helmsman for Her Imperial Condescension. Disciple ethcaped, at least. But ath far as I know, low-bloodth are still being enslaved in the future."

He sighed. The topic was always depressing, and he tried not to think about it much. "But I still believe it can be done. SS sayth that something went wrong on our timeline, that our race wasn't meant to be tho vicious and violent. If we can just overcome it, there'th still hope for us. There hath to be."

"Oh." Romeo fell silent, that was awful and it made him wonder if he had ever had a chance. If adults couldn't stop slavery had he ever had a chance of making the world a place where everyone was free. If adults had died trying, how was one small chimney sweep going to suceed.

But he had to, because he had promised Alfredo. He had made a vow. "When we escape from here," when not if because even after everything Romeo had hope, "We can find a world that hasn't ended and make a place without slavery, where the bad people aren't in charge."

"That thounds like a really good idea," Ψiioniic agreed, smiling a little despite everything. "Maybe SS and Disciple and I can hitch a ride? And thome of our Descendents, they're pretty decent kidth. I'd like to live in a plathe with no slavery, that's why I followed SS in the first place."

"Yes we can all go, all the good people and make a world that's nice without bad people and without slavery. Then your friend SS's dream will come true and so will Alfredo's!"

"It'th a deal, we'll do it together," Ψiioniic promised him. "Welcome to the revolution, Romeo."

"We'll do it together," Romeo repeated with a small smile. He guessed the revoltion was like the Black Brothers and he was glad to be a part of it.
