towerofanimus | Not what I expected [open]

Setting: Room 2-04, then dorm halls and staircases heading down the tower

Summary: Sam wakes up
Warnings:

[Room 2-04] Sam hadn't thought he would ever open his eyes again, never mind feel a soft bed under him and his first thought was that it had truly all been a dream. Except he tried to move and he couldn't. For a terrifying moment he was stuck unable to even scream.

Then it was over and he sat up, the room was different than anything he had seen before, the clothing he wore clung to him. Had they somehow been rescued? It seemed like it would be an impossible feat, yet here he was. Alive. Somehow no longer on that mountain, and it did really seem possible he had dreamed it all up. Except where was he and where was Frodo?

He looked round the room, a room made for big folk, four beds including the one he had woken up in. "Samwise Gamgee, what have you gotten yourself into this time?"

[Hallways] Later, dressed in the ragged clothes he had found in his trunk he walked the hallways. Still not quite believing that this could be real, there was so much he didn't understand. "Mister Frodo?" He called as he walked, because if he was alive. If he had been saved then surely they had saved Frodo as well.

"Mister Frodo?"

[Staircases] Sam wasn't quite ready to step out onto any of the odd places he could see around them, but carefully continued to walk downwards, wondering how far down this place could go, and what other strange things he would see. He walked carefully, stopping every now and again to shake his head in disbelief at the things he saw.

"There are a few..there's the usual janitor jobs and things like that, but I know of one where you have to pull dead bodies out from the ball pit and security duties."

"Dead bodies..." Sam sounded rightly horrified, pulling dead bodies from a pit sounded like an awful job.

Tohko sighed and nodded. "Yes, dead bodies. Sure, the dead come back to life here, but someone still needs to pull out the dead bodies. The Administrators think those people are us."

Sam looked at her horrified, pulling out dead bodies... and...

"What do you mean by that? The dead come back to life?"

Wait she had mentioned something about that... it had been a lot of information, their souls being recycled or something...

Tohko sighed and nodded. She had given him a pretty big infodump..plus, it was his first day here. It was only natural that he would forget a thing or two.

"Not exactly. When a resident dies, retrieval units come and take the body down the the Administrative floors. There..they take out your soul and put it in a new version of your body."

"A new version? So they remake the bodies?" How was that even possible? You couldn't just make bodies.

"They do..I wish I could say how, but all I can tell you is that they just build bodies out of spare parts."

"That doesn't sound natural." At all.

"It isn't..but that's what they do here."

Sam frowned, not liking the sound of that all. "I'll make sure to be careful."

"Good..you'll have to be, in order to not die. You won't remember the process, but that's what happens to you when you die."

"I'll do my best." He's lasted forty years so far... he should be alright... hopefully.

Hopefully..however, Tohko knew the Tower, and people here usually died at least once. Still, there was nothing wrong with trying.

"Good..I'm glad to hear that! Should we head down to the meadow then? It's not too far from here."

Sam nodded, "Alright." He followed her, interested to see this meadow.

It took them a little while to head down to the meadow floor, but when they did, Tohko smiled a little.

"If you ever need a place to relax, you should come here. Monsters are never found here, so you should be alright."

Sam's face was filled with awe as he looked around once more, he had a feeling he would be coming here a lot. "It sounds good."

"It is a pretty nice place..and there are a lot of other interesting places in the Tower too! Just be careful..a few of the lower floors have monsters that'll attack if you get too close."

"I will be, I'll be careful." He didn't want to run into any monsters.

"Good..of course, in this place, it's probably best that you know how to use a weapon, if you don't already or get one as soon as you can. Even without the monsters, it's dangerous. There'll be time when you'll have to fight."

"I do... a little bit." Sam told her, thinking that he should probably ask someone to help him train more. Especially if things were as dangerous as she claimed.

At that, Tohko smiled a little.

"That's good then! You should probably train a bit more, if you know a little, but a basic start is always good to have!"

Sam nodded, "I'll ask someone for lessons once I get my bearings."

"Alright then..that would probably be for the best. And if you're having trouble finding people to help you once you're settled, I can help you find a few people."

"Thank you, that would be kind of you."

"Oh, you're welcome! I'm always happy to help out! Anything else I can tell you about the Tower?"
