The Melody of The Sea is now Silent

Characters: Jasmine and you!
Setting: Dorm floors, cafeteria, and floor twenty-five.
Format: Staring with prose, but I'll match you!
Summary: Jasmine wakes up in the Tower and tries to deal with the fact that everyone she knows and loves is dead.
Warnings: None that I can think of!

When Jasmine woke up and found herself in an unfamiliar room and in an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar nightgown, she was more than a little worried. Who had kidnapped her? Team Rocket? And why? Looking around, she saw a couple of letters on her nightstand, and while they were a bit informative, Jasmine had a very hard time swallowing it. Joto destroyed? Amphy dead? Olivine no more? All her friends and family dead? Jasmine sighed and bit her lip. In such times, she had to be strong. She hadn't gotten to be a Gym Leader by weeping at every cricis that happened along. She had to figure out what exactly was going on here.

So, she got out of bed and opened up her trunk, hoping to find something useful..and did. She quickly changed into her clothes and did up her hair before gathering up the Pokeballs that were in the trunk. So, her friends hadn't died at all. At least..some of them hadn't. Quickly, she opened up one ball and pulled out her Magnemite, which called out to her. Smiling, she patted it on the head. "Don't worry..we'll figure this one out."

With that, she ran out into the hallway, looking for anyone that she could find, her Magnemite trailing behind her. As she ran, she held onto her other Pokeballs. She wanted to pull them out, but Steelix was rather large, and she didn't want to tire Skarmory, even though she was rather strong.

While the bowl of oatmeal the man had handed her was rather unappetizing, Jasmine was trying to make the best of it and eat it as quickly as possible. While she ate, her Magnemite flitted about, and her other two Pokeballs sat on the table. Even though they weren't out, Jasmine wouldn't leave her friends out of a meal.

After going down the stairs for awhile, Jasmine had finally found a floor large enough for Steelix. Smiling, she released the large Pokemon, and it called out rather loudly as it was let out. "Sorry..this place is a bit smaller than home." In response, it lowered it's head and Jasmine, smiling, patted the large Pokemon on the head. They were made out of Steel and tough, but that didn't mean she had to be tough when she didn't have to be. After all, they were her friends.

Morty quite liked the meadow, for reasons he couldn't explain. It wasn't even all that much like home, even in the summertime. Chandelure, at least, appreciated soaking up the sunshine. So while Morty hid under the shade of a tree and read a book he'd borrowed from the library, the Fire-type was resting out in the open, apparently blissed out on all the sunshine. Froslass was on hand, also under the tree, to watch. Gengar was... who knew where Gengar was.

However, the sudden presence of a Steelix is usually enough to snap anyone out of their thoughts, and these three were no different. Froslass and her Trainer both looked up simultaneously at the huge shadow that had spread across the meadow, and with only a small glance shared between them, Morty and Froslass stood up to see what had happened. Imeediately, Froslass floated over and shook Chandelure awake. Once everyone was collected, the group moved a bit closer — and Morty almost immediately broke into a jog once he saw who was standing next to that Steelix.

"Jasmine!"

Cutting right to the chase... that was what everyone did when they came here, apparently. Even someone demure like Jasmine. He was delighted to see her, of course; any sign that his beloved Johto was still standing, even through just one or two people living in the Tower, was a beacon of hope for our friend Morty here. It was kind of sad, all things considered, how he held on so hard to the distant hope that maybe his prayers would be answered (actual prayers, yes).

Still, he could not speak falsehoods, and especially to Jasmine. So... "We don't know. All signs point to it so far, but..."

"Some uncertainty, yes." In direct contrast to his mood five minutes ago, Morty now looked quite sullen; he was just as upset about this development as Jasmine was, and talking about it always sobered his mood. "It's important to keep your homeland in mind, but don't devote all of your time to it. At least try to meet people here in the Tower to keep loneliness at bay." ...Not that he's been doing such a good job of that himself. Loneliness and his Pokémon are Morty's new best friends. And even though he didn't have many friends before, now it was just... different.

"Supposedly, we were saved by the people who run this tower," Morty explained, petting Froslass with one hand. "I don't know what 'destroyed Johto'."

"I don't know, but at least one of them seems to see all of us as personal test subjects." Morty chooses not to comment on how 'nice of them' it was, or indeed the fact that the person who wants to experiment on them is a raging psychopath, assuming Jasmine can figure those out for herself.

Not wanting to repeat himself, Morty just shook his head.

"I'm sorry."

Well isn't that just a loaded question. Until now Morty had been giving nondescript answers to anyone who asked, because it didn't do him any good to go parading around how long he had been sitting here in this cursed place. What was he trying to do, make himself better than everyone else for how long he'd been here? No. Morty didn't do that. But could he do something like that to Jasmine, who not only wanted to know how long he'd endured this place but also how long it had been since either of them had seen their homeland? Slowly, Morty's hands went into his pockets, and his gaze slipped beyond Jasmine and the entire meadow floor. It wasn't a vision, fortunately, but it might as well have been. Come to think of it, he hasn't been getting any visions at all...

...No.

That's not the point here.

He's not going to lie to Jasmine.

"I've been here," Morty said, taking a breath in between to calm himself, "three months."

Time shenanigans, my dear Watson. (And besides, if they were actually ghosts Morty would know, and also be in a considerably better mood. Because Johto's gone? Ok, well, that's not so cool, BUT LOOK HE'S A GHOST!!!)

"Jasmine, calm down. ... They don't work linearly, as far as I can tell." He sighs and settles in for a difficult explanation of what he's gathered about how the universe works, assisted by various hand gestures. "Imagine the universe's life as a timeline. A singular line with points on it for every occurrence. What would happen with an, ahem, normal apocalypse is that there would be a point on the timeline marked 'End of the World', and everything past that would be destroyed. Therefore, no one past that point in the timeline can be taken to this Tower. However, what I think happened is that the entire timeline was destroyed at once, meaning that they had to pull different people from whatever point in time they could before the entire structure had fallen apart."

This has been Universal Science with the most religious man in Johto.

"What was the last thing that happened to you before you came here, Jasmine?" If it was major enough, they could easily determine their respective places in the timeline. Morty himself had just had his butt soundly whooped by Hibiki in the Pokémon World Tournament...

He... remembers that, vaguely. Yeah. That was... yeah. "So you had just met Hibiki? Then that means..."

oh.

"It would seem I'm a few years ahead of you, Jasmine.]

"The boy you met went on to become Johto League Champion. I continued to run the Gym, and then left for Unova for a short while, to compete in a tournament upon invitation from the tournament organizer." He only had half of his team in the Tower from that match. "Afterwards, before I even returned home, I woke up here."

"Yes. Johto-Kanto established contact with Unova shortly after Hibiki became Champion."

Morty sighed, remembering. It was all so... weird. "The region was very modern... the average city there was closer to the level of Goldenrod than anything else."
