Tear's Big Project, Day 1

Characters: Tear Grants and YOU
Setting: The meadow on Floor 25
Format: Starting action, reply as you wish.
Summary: This is the first of the two days for Tear's offer of training in magic. There will be closed parts for certain people and a few open sections.
Warnings:  Magic, fighting, Luke and Asch in the same area with pointy things, possible explosions?

[Tear made her way to the meadow thirty minutes early, a book in her hand as she made that way. She looked around at the empty space and grimaced. Why she'd thought this was a good idea, she'd never know, but she was determined to see if she could get the residents of this Tower of Horror to arm themselves in light of the recent problems with the administration.]

Closed for Luke fon Fabre (OU)
[If the redhead looked carefully enough, he'd see the brunette looking off into the distance at the flowers as she waited for the others to gather.]

Closed for Asch the Bloody, Sheba and Xion
[She'd decided to work on the redheads away from one another, but any friends they brought were fine. She'd expected to see the blond after their exchange on the network.

Closed for V/V, AU Link and Zelda
[She couldn't wait to introduce her two new friends to one another. Link had training with bows and swords. Between those, Tear was sure that V/V would find something she could use.]

Open Section for Magic Training
[This was perhaps the most anxious part of the entire ordeal—trying to figure out how the magics of so many worlds worked and to see if those interested could actually learn to use the Seventh Fonon, or if she was going to be spending her night telling them all how to do battle first aid.

Only time would tell, right?]

Open Section for Fighting Training
[As opposed to the magic training, this, this she had no issue with. She was a proficient with her staffs, maces and knives. Besides, she'd learned as a child that anything could be used as a weapon in times of need. And with the many sword wielders as she'd met since coming to the tower, she knew that this would be fine!]

[A beat passed in breathless silence as Barnaby observed the display. Although he had seen various kinds of weapons used both in the Academy and while on Air, it was the first time that he had witnessed throwing knives in action. The neat job they had done--

He clapped softly, stepping forward a couple of paces to join her.]

Impressive work, Miss Grants.

[mysterical]

Thank you, Mr Brooks. [She took the time to retrieve her knife.] I've been doing this for a while now. Although, I'm a little rusty.

I never would have guessed that. [It was said sincerely-- she was better than she realized.]

One of my associates uses a similar style, although he doesn't use knives. He uses throwing stars, including a large one that he carries on his back. Not that he uses either much.

[Origami-sempai, after all, was notorious for photobombing.]

I didn't realize that you knew how to use weapons like this. How long did it take you to learn?

[mysterical]

[She smiles at his compliment. She knows that hard work is worth it, so it's slightly nice to have her diligence noted, even if Barnaby wasn't her brother or Major Legretta.]

Throwing stars? I've never heard of those. What were they like?

[Er... Ignore her suddenly curious attitude with the throwing weapons. She's going to go back to being a teacher-esque person now.]

I began learning when I was...six, I believe. Grandfather wasn't too happy about that, but Van came home to teach me when he could.

[tsunderebunny]

They're called Shuriken. You might find some information in the libary.

[He didn't know for sure, but that was all of the information he could provide. Thrown weapons weren't his specialty.]

But that doesn't matter. You've had a long time to master the technique, and it shows.

If you don't mind, who is Van?

[mysterical]

I'll keep that in mind the next time I go to the library then!

[Yes, Tohko, she'll be going back. The book was good, even if it confused her at first.]

I suppose ten years is a long time for most people, but it's a skill that can only improve with more effort.

[When Barnaby asks about Van, her good mood fails.]

He is...was...my older brother.

[Her tone as all Barnaby needed to stop that train of questions, and his own mood fell as he was reminded of Maverick.]

My apologies. I think I might understand.

[mysterical]

It's alright. You couldn't have known. [It'll be a long time before talking about her brother will be okay, and she's well aware of that fact.]

So, what can I do for you?

[Please, distract her.]

[tsunderebunny]

[He felt exactly the same about his surrogate father and the reasons for his retirement.]

I came up here to watch, honestly. I was wondering which weapon might be a good choice for me to pick up.

[mysterical]

[She raises a single eyebrow at him that's lost in her long, thick bangs.]

And has anything caught your eye? Attempting to learn something you have no interest in is pointless, after all.

[tsunderebunny]

[He glanced at her, nonplussed by the question.]

I'm interested enough, but I'm just not sure where to begin.

[mysterical]

[She looks at him before taking out her staff and one of her knives.]

These are what I know, what I've trained to use. Do either interest you?

[tsunderebunny]

[He spent a moment to consider the possible applications and how they would mesh with his fighting style.]

The knives, perhaps. The staff would only get in my way, but I've never practiced very much with ranged weapons. I'm afraid that they might be a little counter-intuitive for me.

[mysterical]

[She handed over one of the knives with a raised eyebrow.] These are designed specifically to be thrown.

[She pulls out a second, more practical knife for hand-to-hand fighting.] This one is for close combat.

[tsunderebunny]

[He hefted the one in his hand, noting the weight and the streamlined design of it. With the proper equipment it was possible to carry them, but he preferred using his natural speed and agility when he could.]

They're interesting, but how do you carry all of them?

[He really didn't want anything to constrict his movement.]

[mysterical]

[She gave him a brief smile before sweeping back the ends of her long shirt, showing the weapon bands around her thighs.]

No one expects to check there, so I've gotten in to see heads of state and religious leaders with weapons even after my staff has been confiscated.

[tsunderebunny]

That's very convenient. [Impressively so, and he could see how it didn't interfere with movement.] But I doubt that it would be as convenient for somebody else. No one would think to search a woman like that.

[mysterical]

[She let her clothing fall back into its normal position, covering the knives artfully.]

Have you considered the lining of your jacket? It doesn't need to be so complicated. I knew a blade master who once did that.

[tsunderebunny]

[He cupped his chin as he considered this option, already working out the mechanics of how that would work in a fight and in any actions that he made on the fly. It was a touch inconvenient unless he kept his jacket unzipped, but after compensating for the weight and the ease of access he could see how that could work.]

That really isn't a bad idea.

[mysterical]

[She gave him a small smile as she watched his brain work as quickly as Jade's had during certain conversations.]

If you don't have any experience with sewing, I would be glad to help you with that too.

[tsunderebunny]

It'll be appreciated, [if they even get that far. Barnaby returned her smile, finding that he was grateful to have found somebody he could talk with on many different subjects. He had a feeling that this would be an interesting topic for a while.] I can do some on my own, but I haven't had much practice with a needle and thread.

Although I'm still not fully decided, this is a very interesting option.

[mysterical]

You're welcome to try them out, Mr Brooks. I would suggest you do so, to get a better feel for them.

Then I'll remember that for the future. There's some things about this place that I want to figure out first before I do make a decision. It's not something to take lightly.

[mysterical]

I understand your caution, but I would stress that arming yourself to the best of your ability would probably be a wise decision.

[She'd let the subject go. She'd said her piece and he was a grown man with his own mind to make up. Being pushy with him would get her nowhere.]

If there's anything else I can do, please let me know, Mr Brooks.

[The conversation, however, did cement her a place in Barnaby's mind as a possible ally for the future. He had a feeling that he would need any help he could get.]
