Tear's Big Project, Day 1
Characters: Tear Grants and YOU
Setting: The meadow on Floor 25
Format: Starting action, reply as you wish.
Summary: This is the first of the two days for Tear's offer of training in magic. There will be closed parts for certain people and a few open sections.
Warnings: Magic, fighting, Luke and Asch in the same area with pointy things, possible explosions?
[Tear made her way to the meadow thirty minutes early, a book in her hand as she made that way. She looked around at the empty space and grimaced. Why she'd thought this was a good idea, she'd never know, but she was determined to see if she could get the residents of this Tower of Horror to arm themselves in light of the recent problems with the administration.]
Closed for Luke fon Fabre (OU)
[If the redhead looked carefully enough, he'd see the brunette looking off into the distance at the flowers as she waited for the others to gather.]
Closed for Asch the Bloody, Sheba and Xion
[She'd decided to work on the redheads away from one another, but any friends they brought were fine. She'd expected to see the blond after their exchange on the network.
Closed for V/V, AU Link and Zelda
[She couldn't wait to introduce her two new friends to one another. Link had training with bows and swords. Between those, Tear was sure that V/V would find something she could use.]
Open Section for Magic Training
[This was perhaps the most anxious part of the entire ordeal—trying to figure out how the magics of so many worlds worked and to see if those interested could actually learn to use the Seventh Fonon, or if she was going to be spending her night telling them all how to do battle first aid.
Only time would tell, right?]
Open Section for Fighting Training
[As opposed to the magic training, this, this she had no issue with. She was a proficient with her staffs, maces and knives. Besides, she'd learned as a child that anything could be used as a weapon in times of need. And with the many sword wielders as she'd met since coming to the tower, she knew that this would be fine!]

[Sorry to disappoint, Luke, but it's not a swordsman - it's Sheba, holding onto her staff with both hands and looking at him with an inquisitive expression. One of her major weaknesses was melee combat, she knew - and while Tear might have been a better person to ask, given their similarities in weapons, the other girl seemed to have her hands full as it was.
Besides, if Sheba was going to improve on her hand-to-hand skills, she wanted to do it with a weapon that would be easier to protect herself and the people she cared about with.]
Hey, um... is it hard to learn to use a sword?
[Translation: HAVE A NEWBIE, LUKE.]

[He was about to suggest just that; if she was looking for combat training, it probably would have been better to ask Tear. She may have used a staff as well, but she could seriously cause some hurt with that thing! Her question, however, threw him for a loop.]
E-eh? Well... it can be. There's a lot to keep your mind on at once, and you need to know how you're going to move in response to your enemy and all... plus, some swords can be pretty heavy; there's a lot of strength training too.

She glances doubtfully at her arms. Strength. That might be a problem.]
If I was willing to put in the effort, would you be willing to train me? I've... been caught in a few situations where my Psynergy hasn't been effective at all for fighting. I don't want to get caught like that again, and a sword is a more versatile weapon than... this. [She holds up her staff.]

[HELLO OBVIOUS NERVOUSNESS. Could he really do that? Someone was seriously asking him -- him -- to train them in swordsmanship, and someone he considered a friend to boot. He could feel his heart doing flipflops in his chest, but he tried to swallow it down.]
I'll need to see if I can find a practice sword. They're usually weighted, and good for getting a grasp of how to properly swing...
[Because there was no way she was going to be able to practice with his Bastard Sword, and the blade he had originally come into the Tower with was in no shape to be used by anyone.]
[He trailed off a moment, considering.]
Hey... I'm not asking this to discourage you from learning, but... have you ever thought you're just using the wrong kind of staff? Tear's used some bladed staves in the past that have done some serious damage.
no subject
[That brightens her up considerably - she's practically beaming as she shifts her staff to rest in the crook of her elbow so she can clasp her hands together excitedly. Luke might have been unsure about it, but Sheba was just glad he hadn't immediately dismissed her as a lost cause.]
I can help you look! I'm sure there's something that could be used...
[And even if there wasn't, perhaps there was something that could be borrowed, or made. She'll have to take another look around the workshop when she gets the chance.
A moment passes after Luke asks if she's considered other weapons, and she shrugs.]
On Weyard, I also used maces. None of them came to the Tower with me, though. Just this. [Her gaze falls to her staff and she purses her lips.] But even then, they weren't very versatile. Their reach wasn't as long as most swords, either...
no subject
Well... we can try different things, and see what you like best? How's that sound?
no subject
[She leans back on her heels. It's pretty clear that she's in a very good mood now - she almost looks like she might start humming, except she has something else to ask first.]
So, where should we start?
no subject
[Luke paused, frowning down at her staff. It wouldn't be very useful, but maybe...]
Okay, why don't we work on stance first? I think we can use your staff as a stand in until we find a proper practice sword.
no subject
[She nods, then shifts her grip on her staff so that she's kind of holding it like it's a sword. She looks a little doubtful, though, as she glances down at her grip and tries to adjust her stance to something similar to how she remembered Felix standing whenever he would raise his blade.
All in all, she just looks like she really doesn't know what she's doing. Have fun correcting her, Luke.]

Here...
[He stepped around behind her, gently nudging her feet into the right position, before reaching around, adjusting her hands.]
Your dominant hand goes at the top, under the cross bar, though it's traditional for people to use their right hand, even if they're not right handed.
[He remembered Van trying to force it on him, because it was "proper". Eventually he gave up, and Luke just learned to compensate for the different hand usage.]
