Missing a friend

Characters: Samwise Gamgee and you
Setting: 6th July, dorm halls
Format: Either
Summary: Sam comes back from the ruins of Middle Earth, to find Frodo gone
Warnings: sad hobbit

Everything was gone, down to the very stars themselves. Every blade of grass, every flower, every tree in the Shire and probably the whole world was dead, withered, gone like all the people.

Where there had once been laughter and hope now there was just silence, death, bodies twisted in agony and Sam could not bare it. It was almost better to be back in the tower, in this place of metal and fear. Sam's first act was to go and find Frodo, or at least attempt to. For when he got to his master's room he found his name struck from the door, much like Barnaby's had been.

Gone forever... That was what that meant. Sam shook his head in disbelief, he couldn't be gone. Not Frodo, why would they send him away, Sam had not even been able to cope with a week in their ruined world, how would Frodo bare it?

For a long time he stared at the door, as if in shock, wanting to cry but feeling that more tears in this place would do no one any good.

No--no, of course not.

[Ion smiles, attempting to be reassuring, but his eyes are sad.]

Far from it. In fact...

[He trails off for a second, shakes his head.]

I'm sure this is going to sound a bit strange but I've actually been looking for you.
fragileprophet: (A guilty conscience)

[Ion shakes his head.] No, you're right--we haven't. At least...

[He sighs, working up the strength to just come out and say it plainly. The guilt is more than a little evident on his face as he explains.]

About a month ago, you were attacked by a monster in the library. I'm...afraid to admit that it was me. [He pauses. He hadn't realized when his gaze had fallen to stare at his feet, but he brings them back up again (even if the young man in front of him--who has to be older than himself--is shorter in height).] My name is Ion...and from the bottom of my heart I'm sorry for having hurt you.

[True, in the end the two of his victims had overcome him...but he had still been so merciless. Especially toward the one he was talking to now.]
fragileprophet: (Still...)

[Ion can feel a knot form in his throat. He has a small measure of trouble swallowing it in order to respond again.]

You have a big heart full of compassion. [His observation is more of a statement than anything else. As such, he leaves no room for argument.] When I was a monster...you showed me mercy. Nobody else did that. [Nobody else would have.] Even though I had no control over my actions at the time and ignored the gesture, now that I'm myself again it's not an action I'll soon forget.

[And even now, the stranger apologized to him. It was enough to smash Ion's heart to pieces. He could only be glad that the two had been able to strike him down in the end. If Ion had managed to kill them...he wasn't sure he'd be able to live with himself again.]

You did what you had to do at the time. I can only glad that the game is over now.
fragileprophet: (I don't deserve such kindness.)

Thank you for your kindness.

[Ion gives the best smile he can manage, though there's still an obvious air of subservience in his words.]

Following my return to normal, I have nothing to complain about.

[Except for the usual bouts of exhaustion and general feelings of heartache, but Ion figured it wasn't in good taste to mention such things.]

If at all possible, do you know how I could find your friend? The one you were with in the library, I mean. [He pauses, then explains.] I'm trying to find everyone I attacked so I can apologize in person, you see. I don't know most of them...and I'm afraid I'm having a bit of trouble locating them because of it.
fragileprophet: (That's a good idea.)

[This time, Ion's smile is a bit brighter.]

I'd like that, thank you. It would be a big help. [And then, with a brief pause--] I don't believe I ever got your name.
fragileprophet: (I'm so glad!)

It's nice to met you too. Samwise...that's a nice name! [He laughs softly--he can't help it. He's never heard such a phrase before. It was nice to meet new people--especially once the initial tense nature of the conversation had faded. Ion really needed to learn how to be less serious with his introductions.] I don't think you were rude at all, really.
